Christmas party make up looks: Glitter eyes as seen on Kate Moss, Emma Watson and more

By Andrea Petrou on November 30th, 2011

Christmas is the time that you can really get away with OTT make up. One trend that we’re loving and is perfect for that Chrimbo party is glitter eyes.

The look seen on the likes of Emma Watson and Kylie Minogue can be as bold or as simple as you like.

For a toned down look go for a glitter eye shadow with lashings of mascara and dark kohl a la Kate Moss and  Katy Perry or take a leaf out of Emma Watson’s make up book and add some little gems for a more dramatic look.

See the gallery below for some celebrity inspiration.

Nicola Roberts wants her ginger hair back

By Andrea Petrou on November 28th, 2011

Nicola Roberts is going back to her ginger roots.

The Girls Aloud singer – who was renowned for her flame-coloured locks when she first became famous – recently dyed her tresses blonde but has now decided she wants to return to being a redhead.

She said: “Some of my fans have tweeted me and said, ‘No, come back to ginge’. But I’m just like, ‘I’m blonde for a minute but I’m still ginge at heart’. I’ll be back!”

“This is nice for a change. I’ve been every single hair colour under the sun, I’ve been dark, dark brown, I’ve been blonde, I’ve been red, I’ve had a bob, I’ve had long hair, I’ve had a fringe, I’ve not had a fringe, I’ve had pink hair. I get bored and I like to swap and change things up, but it’s just hair at the end of the day.”

Nicola has always been proud of her ginger hair and she thinks it makes her stand out.

She said: “I love being known as the ginger one! It’s been my special thing since I was little.

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on ginger hair. There’s a saying: ‘Not everyone has to love you, but as long as somebody loves you, then you’ll be OK.’ “

Duchess Catherine goes for bee sting facial following recommendations from Duchess Camilla

By Andrea Petrou on November 28th, 2011

Britain’s Duchess Catherine is taking beauty tips from her stepmother-in-law.

The newest member of the royal family – who married Prince William in April – has been receiving treatments from Deborah Mitchell after Duchess Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles, recommended the beautician’s bee sting facial.

A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “Deborah has been treating Camilla for six years now. Like any customer who finds something good, Camilla has told her friends and in-laws, including Kate. Now she visits the Royal Family wherever they are in residence. They are lovely to her.”

As well as her treatments, Deborah is known for her bee venom mask – which contains manuka honey, shea butter, rose and lavender essential oils, a “secret” ingredient and around one per cent bee venom – which tricks the skin’s surface into thinking it has been stung, increasing blood flow, collagen and elasticity.

Famous fans of the product are said to include Victoria Beckham, Michelle Preiffer and Kylie Minogue.

Deborah said: “They were discovering the more they did Botox, the more their faces did not match their body language and viewers found them difficult to trust.

“This pushes out those wrinkles and gives a smooth, supple look and feel to the skin – as opposed to the frozen-face look associated with Botox.”

Deborah, 46, refused to discuss her relationship with Camilla and Catherine.

She said: “I’m afraid I cannot talk about that.”

Dita Von Teese thinks she has a classic look

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

Dita Von Teese thinks her look will “work at any age”.

The 39-year-old burlesque model explained she had an “epiphany” at a recent shoot, and discovered she can still maintain her “classy” style when she gets older, as her hair, make-up and clothing choices have become like a “uniform” to her.

She said: “I was doing a photo shoot and the make-up artist had made me up to have grey hair but I was still wearing the same clothes and had the same make-up. I was scanning me in the mirror and I just had this epiphany that I was perfect – I looked like a classy, old lady.

“I won’t have to change my look when I get older, it’ll work at any age. I’m not sure what Paris Hilton will be wearing when she gets to 70.

“My look is like a uniform to me, I know each morning what I’ll be doing with my make-up and hair, how long my hem line will be. I like to evolve my look, but I don’t feel compelled to update it.”

However, the raven-haired beauty – who has appeared in campaigns for the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood in the past – admitted she isn’t naturally blessed with a trim figure and “works hard” to look so glamorous.

Dita added in an interview with Vogue.co.uk: “I don’t try to tell people I’m naturally anything, I’m not going to tell you that I eat pizza all day and look like this – I don’t.

“I work hard to maintain a glamorous look, and to tell women that they can achieve it too. We all want to have a plump, juicy and luscious figures – I just try hard to stay fit.”

Cheryl Cole wants her own perfume

By Andrea Petrou on November 14th, 2011

Cheryl Cole wants her own perfume.

The Fight for This Love singer – who is designing her own shoe collection – says she would love to have her own fragrance as smelling nice has always been important to her.

She said: “I always douse myself in perfume. I’m known for it in this industry. People say, ‘Cheryl must have worn this dress’, just because it smells of perfume. You can smell me coming down the red carpet.

“It’s a dream of mine to have my own fragrance, but I would want to do it my way.”

Cheryl, 28, also revealed how she takes good care of her skin although doesn’t always get a good night’s sleep.

She told Britain’s InStyle magazine: “I always make sure I take my make-up off as I hate waking up to find mascara on the pillow. I wear SPF30+ in the sun and I cleanse and moisturise – the simple things. I’m not a good sleeper and can function on about four hours.”

AW 2011 Makeup trends and how to get the look: Golden vintage tones

By Andrea Petrou on November 7th, 2011

Vintage is a hot trend this season. However, it’s not just making a huge impact on our wardrobes, it’s also filtering into our make up too. This season one key look is golden buff, a trend which gives a nod to 40s sepia style prints.

And it’s also a great look for all skin types. To get the look start with a cream colour base foundation before coating eyes in two types of gold eyeshadows.

Add mascara and a contrasting frosted pink lippy to finish the look.  See the gallery below for tips and where to buy the products we used.

Kate Moss’ latest perfume has been inspired by her daughter Lila Grace

By Andrea Petrou on November 3rd, 2011

Kate Moss’ latest perfume has been inspired by her daughter.

The supermodel’s new fragrance -which is described has a “pretty, soft fruity floriental” smell – is called Lilabelle, in tribute to nine-year-old Lila Grace.

She said: “Lilabelle is my most personal fragrance yet, inspired by my daughter Lila. It is a really soft and gentle scent yet also a bit daring. I created it for both for grown women who want to remain young at heart and teens who want glamour and sophistication. It’s my gift to every woman and girl who lives life to the full.”

Kate – who wed husband Jamie Hince in July – recently revealed Lila is quite “prudish” and will often tell her mother off when she doesn’t take off her make-up.

She said: “I always take my make-up off, because otherwise my daughter will come in and say, ‘Mummy, tut-tut’. She doesn’t like it. She likes the fresh-faced, natural mummy, when I’ve got my hair in a bun and no make-up on.

“Lila is quite prudish – she’ll only wear a little bit of lip gloss or something. But she is into nail art. I think Lila is beautiful – she’s so innocent and has that fresh face. She’s gorgeous, but obviously she is my daughter.”

AW 2011 Makeup trends and how to get the look: Doll eyes as seen at Lanvin

By Andrea Petrou on November 2nd, 2011

If you’re a gal who likes to go subtle when it comes to your make up then the doll eyes look is a perfect AW 2011 compromise.

The make up as seen as Lanvin is all about the eyes, and its nature means you can use just about any type of eyeliner to get the look.

For dramatic eyes opt for a gel eyeliner to draw a thick line just at the outer third of the eyelid then use a finger to gently smudge the edges just beyond the eye. For a daytime look switch to either a kohl or crayon liner and finish with a huge dollop of mascara on both the bottom and lop lashes.
Those worried about going all natural can also use a foundation to even out skin tones, but keep it light.

See the gallery below on how to get the look.

To get the look you’ll need to focus mainly on the eyes to get a smokey look. Keep the foundation to a minimum and add a touch of girly frosted pink lippy.
