Nicole Richie to create her own fragrance

By Andrea Petrou on October 24th, 2011

Nicole Richie will create her own perfume.

The fashion designer has signed a worldwide fragrance deal with TPR Holdings LLC to launch her own scent which promises to be “cool, classy and edgy”.

Brian Robinson, president of TPR said: “She has a wide breadth of creative talents being an author, a jewellery designer, a fashion designer and an aspirational figure.

“People look favourably on her. She’s done a great job with her image.”

The company are hoping the scent will reflect the 30-year-old style icon’s “very distinct image” and have already begun collaborating with Nicole on fragrance ideas.

Brian added to WWD: “We have put together mood boards to get a feeling of where she sees herself positioned in the fragrance world.”

While working on her fragrance, Nicole will also juggle her role as a judge on ‘Fashion Star’ – which sees aspiring designers compete for a contract to have their products sold in retailers in the US – with designing her clothing and accessories brands Winter Kate and House of Harlow.

Nicole recently revealed she only ever created clothes she would want to wear herself.

She said: “My main goal for this particular collection – and for all the footwear that I design – is I want the shoes to look great but be comfortable at the same time.

“I’m a girl and I love shoes. Who doesn’t want to make exactly what you want?”

Gwyneth Paltrow says sleep is the key to looking good

By Andrea Petrou on October 24th, 2011

Gwyneth Paltrow says a good night’s sleep is essential to looking good.

The Oscar-winning actress – who has two children, Apple, seven, and five-year-old Moses with husband Chris Martin – admits if she doesn’t get a lot of rest, it shows in her appearance.

She said: “For me, sleep is a major thing. I don’t always get it, and when I don’t, I look like I’ve been hit by a truck.”

Gwyneth also credits drinking lots of water, taking vitamins “religiously” and having at least one cup of coffee – with almond milk – each morning to help maintain her youthful looks.

The 39-year-old beauty detoxes twice a year and is a fan of the Clean Program, an elimination diet that lasts for three weeks and allows a daily lunch.

She told ‘Ask Dr. Brandt’ on Sirius XM Radio: “I find it very rejuvenating. It’s like being high.”

Gwyneth – who credits celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson with her amazing figure – has previously said she doesn’t like to diet and eats what she likes because she exercises so much.

She said: “I had to work hard to get it like this, but now I’m here it’s so great because I don’t have to think about it. I can just enjoy life. What a relief is that.

Pictures: Halloween Costume ideas – Devil make up and how to get the look

By Andrea Petrou on October 20th, 2011

Gone are the days when dressing up as a She Devil for Halloween meant you had to coat your face in red sticky face paint.

As Halloween parties have become more and more fashionable so have  the make-up looks associated with the traditional costumes and the devil look is just one example with many demonesses swapping the obvious look for bold eye make up that gives a nod to this look.

To get a look that screams She Devil, yet remains sexy start with a dark grey or black eyeshadow and coat your upper lid. Take the colour right up to the brow.

Once you’ve done this add some red shadow over the top of this, but keep it to the lid. Blend in to give a seamless look and add some thick black liner to both the top and bottom lids.

To complete the look add some bright red lipstick and you’re set to tempt any male at that party into being naughty.

See the gallery below for a list of everything you need to get the look.

Halloween Costume ideas: Fairy Make up

By Andrea Petrou on October 19th, 2011

Yesterday we gave you some ideas on how to achieve that fairy outfit for Halloween and today we’re still flying high with this idea with some make-up ideas to complete the look.
The great thing about this make up is that you can go as detailed or subtle as you like. Go to extremes and go for a garden fairy look by using green shimmering face paint, adding red liner to eyes and red lippy to lips or add some flowers to hair for a more subtle look. If you want a softer look why not try feathered lashes or pastel eye and lip colours.
See the top five fairy make up ideas in the gallery below.

X Factor judge Kelly Rowland loves wigs

By Andrea Petrou on October 13th, 2011

Kelly Rowland is “in love” with wigs.

The When Love Takes Over hitmaker gets her hair-pieces custom-made and has learned over the years the styles that suit her best.

She said: “I’m in love with wigs. I get them custom-made and I have my hairstylist shape them to my head. I can go from long to short in less than a minute.

“I tried a blonde wig once and I looked like I should have been wearing a tacky dress with my legs out. I looked crazy. Even a too-light brown hair colour doesn’t work for me because it becomes the same colour as my face.”

The 30-year-old beauty also admitted she would love to shave her head one day.

She told Essence magazine: One day I’d like to cut off all my hair – really close – shaven to my head. It’s such a really beautiful look.”

Kelly rarely uses hair straighteners any more after her frequent use meant she previously burned parts of her hair off.

She said: “I never want to apply heat every day. I did that before, and lost all my edges.”

Katy Perry wants a Pixie hairstyle but not for too long

By Andrea Petrou on October 6th, 2011

Katy Perry would love to try a pixie haircut but only for a short time.

The 26-year-old beauty sports a short crop in her new campaign for the ghd Scarlet Collection and although Katy loves experimenting with her hair, she admitted the look is slightly too “bold” for her to maintain for very long.

She said: “The Snow White look is very different for me because it is a very short bob, but we were inspired by the Art Deco era – a bit flapper-y, a bit 1940′s. The furniture is very Art Deco. I love my nails in it, and my bob that has little curls coming around it.

“I think it’s a bold look for me, especially for the short hair, but I’ve actually had a pixie cut before. I used to have a black pixie cut when I was about 17-18-19 so I felt I was reliving that part of my life again. It’s really cute. I’d probably wear this look again, but I probably wouldn’t do it for long.”

The ghd Scarlet Collection includes a gorgeous heat resistant red satin styler roll bag, perfectly encasing the limited edition red plated stylers, along with two sectioning clips and protective plate guard.

Katy often experiments with different looks – recently dying her locks pink – but the brunette star misses her

natural blonde hair and would love to try “a long, hippie-esque blonde look with black roots”.

She said: “I might like trying being a blonde – a long, hippie-esque blonde with black roots. We’ll see.”

Liv Tyler takes advice from her father Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and becomes the spokesperson for Pantene

By Andrea Petrou on October 5th, 2011

Liv Tyler has been announced as the new spokesperson for Pantene.

The ‘Lord of the Rings’ actress – who has been the face of Givenchy since 2003 – will front the campaign for the hair care brand’s ‘Repair and Protect’ range and says she has been a fan of their products for some time.

She said: “I’m really excited about working with Pantene on this new project, especially as I did a Pantene ad back in 1996 when I was 19. I’ve tried lots of different hair care brands over the years, but Pantene is my favourite as it always leaves my hair looking and feeling really healthy.”

Liv – whose mother is model Bebe Buell – has previously revealed she often takes beauty advice from her father Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, and says he is full of useful tips.

The 34-year-old beauty said: “My father is full of great beauty advice, like wear your perfume in your belly button and on the soles of your feet so that it becomes part of you.

“My grandmother gives me major hope, my dad too because he hasn’t had any work done and looks amazing. He doesn’t have any wrinkles.”

Sienna Miller wants to end cosmetic testing on animals

By Andrea Petrou on October 5th, 2011

Sienna Miller has given her support to the campaign to stop animal testing on cosmetics.

The British actress joins a number of high profile celebrities – including Sir Paul McCartney and Kimberly Wyatt – supporting the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) No Cruel Cosmetics initiative which is calling for a ban on animal testing for toiletries and cosmetic products sold in the European Union (EU) to come into effect in 2013 as planned.

Michelle Thew, Chief Executive of the BUAV, said: “We are delighted to have the support of Sienna Miller. It is totally unacceptable for animals to continue to suffer and die in the name of beauty. Please join Sienna and support our No Cruel Cosmetics campaign to end cosmetics testing on animals. Sign our petition to the European Parliament at www.NoCruelCosmetics.org.”

There are fears the ban could be put back and vegetarian Paul has been vocal in his opposition to animal testing and any delay.

He said: “Animals should not suffer in the name of beauty. Testing toiletries and cosmetics on animals is cruel and unnecessary. Join me in signing the BUAV’s petition to ensure the sale of cruel products in the EU is outlawed by 2013. Say NO to Cruel Cosmetics.”

Speaking in a new teaser clip for the scent – due to be released next month – she said: “It’s a spark, a connection, a rush of something new. Once you’ve been struck, you’ll never be the same again.”

The new scent -which will be rolled out worldwide over two years starting in October – features freesia, green tea, apple blossom, raspberry and dewberry and Taylor wants it to leave a last impression.

Jessica Alba loses baby weight with exercise but never weighs herself

By Andrea Petrou on October 3rd, 2011

Jessica Alba never weighs herself.

The gorgeous actress gave birth to her second child, Haven, six week ago and while she has dropped some of the baby weight quite easily with some exercise, Jessica doesn’t put herself under any pressure to lose the extra pounds.

She said: “I didn’t gain too much time so that made a difference and I started working out as my doctor said it was fine. I try to be healthy and balanced. I have definitely not lost the baby weight but it’s coming off slowly but surely. I don’t weigh myself. I just see what clothes fit.”

However, despite her exercise regime Jessica admitted she often allows herself a calorific treat every so often, especially when her husband Cash Warren – with whom she also has a three-year-old daughter Honor – orders dessert.

She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I try not to indulge in super-fattening food but I still have desserts as Cash always orders them and they taste so good. It’s just everything in moderation.”

Emma Watson likes natural beauty

By emilyborrett on September 21st, 2011

The Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has admitted that in the past she’s worn far too much makeup – so now, it’s all about the natural look for her. (Though it’s extremely easy to say you prefer natural beauty when you yourself have one of the most perfect faces in Hollywood, eh Emma?)

Emma said: “The funny thing about me is that I do have a lot of products – I’ve always loved make-up and its ability to transform you. But I don’t actually wear a lot of it, so there is an irony that I own so much of it but wear so little. But I do love beauty products. But wearing too much make-up has been my biggest beauty faux-pas. I truly, truly believe that beauty is something that comes from within. You can only really look beautiful if you feel beautiful on the inside. It shows through your face, the way you move and the way you hold yourself.”

Aww, all together girls – YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.

And Emma’s best tip for outer beauty (the inner bit we’ll have to figure out ourselves)? “Don’t over-pluck your eyebrows and always take your make-up off before you got to bed.” Sound advice indeed.
