Gallery: Angelina Jolie’s “Salt” outfits

By Eleni Tavantzis on July 26th, 2010

Angelina Jolie hasn’t been in the limelight for a longtime but over the past month this has changed.

The starlet has been out and about promoting her new film “Salt” wowing us in her outfits as well as showing the world that despite rumours, her and Brad are still very much an item. At the LA Premier of the film Angie opted for a sparkly short black strapless number.

Posing alongside Mr Pitt, the actress showed off her new figure, which has filled out slightly since worrying pictures of her skinny frame appeared in the media a few months back.

She carried on her extraordinary fashion sense at the Comic Con event in a more casual black skirt, which she teamed up with an on-trend leather jacket.

She then opted for a similar black skirt with a satin pink boatneck top for a press call at the Russian premier of the film before changing into a red ballgown frock to walk the red carpet. We’re sure Brad was very impressed Ange.

Spotted: Brangelina show LA they’re still the most gorgeous couple in the world

By Elaine LaPersonerie on July 20th, 2010

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the "Salt" Première in Los Angeles Brad Pitt and Angelina made it clear that they’ve got their mojo back at Graumann’s Chinese Theatre for the Los Angeles première of Angelina’s new film “Salt”, and are more of a power couple than ever – while recently in the past, the pair have appeared in public looking tired, tense and strained, yesterday on the red carpet they appeared more in love than ever.

Despite being under criticism for her skinny frame in the past couple of years, Ange looked healthy and radiant in a black, shimmering tube dress from Emporio Armani, with glamour-puss curls and Brigitte Bardot makeup. Other celebrities were copying her look – The Ring actress Naomi Watts wore an almost identical dress in silver. How embarrassing, Naomi. Brad was also looking his old handsome self, having traded in the dodgy mousy hair and beard (yay, he looks like Brad Pitt again) for cool Miami Vice-style aviator shades and classic men’s tailoring in his Tom Ford suit.

Seeing this must be a bit of a kick in the teeth for Jennifer Aniston – Brangelina are looking as hot as they did when they first started getting it on for “Mr and Mrs Smith”. Maybe they look so good because there’s a sequel in the pipeline?

London College of Style: Dream course for wannabe stylists

By Elaine LaPersonerie on July 16th, 2010

For anyone reading out there who has whiled away hours daydreaming about being the next Rachel Zoe, or looking at badly-dressed people and mentally planning what you’d make them wear, good news – there’s a new college set to hit the Parsons Green area that could be a massive leg-up for anyone wanting to break into the notoriously difficult career that is professional styling.

LCS is aiming to do for fashion-lovers what the Brit School does for drama-lovers – nurturing the talents of the student, finding them work, and discovering fashion’s potential new shining stars. The founders of the college are none other than Wendy Elsmore, who has appeared several times in the role of fashion expert for This Morning and regular reporter for events such as London fashion week, and Kate Smith, international model. Also joining LCS will be the likes of Xanthia White, celebrity make up artist, and senior lecturer in fashion/textiles at the Chelsea College of Art & Design, Gary Page. Basically, they’ve all got fashion credentials up to their eyeballs.

The intensive foundation course promises to give each student a clear understanding of skills and knowledge to build upon, giving them as strong a foundation as possible to build upon. Students will learn dressmaking and garment construction, styling for brands, television, film, magazines and stage, whilst working towards creating a portfolio piece to show off their talents to potential employers.

It sounds like a dream come true to me. If you’re sitting at home dressing up your cat as you read this, wishing you could style real people, click through here for more details on how to apply to the foundation course.

Spotted in London: Fearne Cotton (again), Jordan and more

By emilyborrett on July 14th, 2010

Fearne Cotton’s made it into this week’s “Spotted In London” again, as always, leaving the Radio One studio looking like a true Londoner in a slouchy, mustard yellow skirt teamed up with an animal-print blouse and denim shirt. If you look closely you’ll notice that she’s wearing the same leather uber-heels that she was spotted in last time – shoes so fierce that they practically wear her, not the other way round.

Amy Winehouse and Diana Vickers were both spotted again too – Amy was papped at the “Psychosis” première (bizarrely, so was the lead singer from The Darkness) sporting a huge grin and even huger hair, showing off her tan and her new healthier figure in a clinging magenta mini-dress cinched in at the waist with a leather corset-style belt. Meanwhile, Vickerz was spotted leaving the BBC One studios looking very Florence Welch in a pretty cotton white maxidress.

Mollie King and Una Healy of The Saturdays were also looking good in simple outfits leaving the MTV studios in Camden; Mollie looked the quintessential girl-next-door in a crisp blue shirt and denim micro-shorts, while bandmate Una Healy opted for a more sexed-up approach to her outfit by pairing up her denim with a cropped shirt tied at the waist to show off her very brown midriff.

Jordan was also spotted leaving the MTV studios in the daytime, looking a lot scarier than The Saturdays and looking a lot like Donnatella Versace’s evil sister. Her accessory: those stupid lips. No wonder she never looks very happy.

Today’s “Spotted in London” award goes to Fearne for being creative with her fabric and colour combinations. I never thought I’d like mustard yellow but I’ve been proved wrong. Good job.

The Saturdays celebrate a big charity birthday at the O2

By emilyborrett on July 14th, 2010

Last night the Saturdays performed a show at the O2 arena to celebrate the first birthday of charity The Transformation Trust, a foundation that focuses on providing extra-curricular activities and opportunities for children in secondary schools as a motivational tool. The concert was free for young people around the country (how jammy is that – maybe I should go back to secondary school and be as lazy as possible to see if I can get into free gigs) and featured other big names on the line-up such as Tinchy Strider, Eliza Doolittle and X-Factor’s Stacey Solomon, who led the crowd in a chorus of “Happy Birthday to you” in honour of the charity.

The Saturdays looked a bit like a girl-band rainbow yesterday, each sporting a super body-con skirt in a different colour teamed up with little white tops to show off their enviable tans. Their white heeled trainers they all sported gave the outfits a cool, sportswear edge on an otherwise hyper-girlie outfit. Check the gallery below to check out what the girls were wearing, and pieces you can find to copy their look.

This week’s worst dressed: Pamela Anderson, Kelis and more

By emilyborrett on July 12th, 2010

For every time a celebrity gets their outfit bang-on, there’s fifty celebrities that get it painfully wrong. This week has been no exception: mature stars such as Jo Wood and Jane Fonda have been letting the side down with their poor clothing choices whilst Emma Rigby and Kelis prove that youth doesn’t equal style. Whatsoever.

I think there’s little point going into huge detail of why the celebrities featured in the gallery look so bad (its pretty self-explanatory), but check out the outfits below and then vote for this week’s worst-dressed in Shiny Style’s poll.

Who wins this week’s worst dressed?
Pamela Anderson
Nancy Dell’olio
Jane Fonda
Kelis
Jo Wood
Emma Rigby

Trend Alert: New nightwear range from Zadehome.com

By emilyborrett on July 12th, 2010

For cute, affordable nightwear this summer, one of the best places to go is Zadehome.com, an online mail-order company specialising in patterned night and lounge-wear. Celebrities have already cottoned on: the range is getting the thumbs-up from Jo Wood, who deemed it “fab”, whilst our favourite kooky British pin-up Paloma Faith is rumoured to love their taxi-print jammies. A little more bizarrely, Ricky Whittle, ex-Hollyoaks heart throb, is also a fan.. I can’t imagine he’s got quite the right frame for one of their camisoles.

It’ll be music to the ears of any girl on a budget that nothing costs over twenty-five quid, so a piece from the new range won’t take its toll on your paycheck. On my wishlist are the retro rocket-print pyjama bottoms – so that I can pretend that I’m in The Jetsons – and their dainty little ballet-slippers, perfect for padding around the house in. So if you want to get a little London style in your nightwear (or impress Ricky Whittle), check the gallery below for their best pieces.

Happy Birthday, Courtney Love

By emilyborrett on July 9th, 2010

Whether you love her or hate her, you’ve got to admit that Courtney Love is looking amazing these days. Far from the days of little-girl dresses, smudged lipstick and tiaras, Courtney is being papped out and about looking glossy, stylish and – gasp – groomed. She’s turning 46 today, and mad props to her – the girl looks good.

The infamous widow of grunge singer Kurt Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994, has had a rough time with the media in the last few years and has been photographed countless times looking less than her best; she’s been constantly under criticism for her struggle to kick addictions to prescription drugs, her emaciated frame (it’s believed that she’s been struggling with an eating disorder) and her wild-eyed, shabby demeanor. Unlike many other celebrities who have been in the media’s line of fire for the past few years, she’s been refreshingly frank and honest about her struggles. Artist Stella Vine, who has used Courtney as a subject for her paintings several times, said on the singer: “She’s one of those people who are prepared to put the truth out, warts and all, even though you will be attacked for it.” It’s Courtney’s honesty that makes me love her, and it’s great to see her looking healthy and beautiful again.

Happy 46th birthday Courtney – you’re looking great.

Spotted in London: Ellen Page, Claudia Schiffer and more

By emilyborrett on July 8th, 2010

Celebrities have been all over London in the last couple of days, some looking better than others.

Ellen Page, the pint sized Juno star was seen going into the Dorchester Hotel with a takeaway salad in London, looking fresh-faced but scruffily down to earth in weathered-looking jeans and trainers.

There seemed to be some kind of celebrity get-together at ITV studios, where Diana Vickers, looking glossy and sweet in a sailor-collar dress and tennis shoes, Sophie Ellis Bextor, looking ethereal in black opaques and a printed minidress, and Holly Willoughby were each papped leaving the studios. Holly looked glamorous and polished leaving in a blue minidress to show off her curves and was sporting sixties-esque blonde curls. The same cannot be said for her best friend and partner-in-crime Fearne Cotton, who emerged from the Radio 1 offices looking grungy and dishevelled in a button-up mididress, denim jacket and fiercely studded shoes.

Victoria Beckham also looked less than her usual self as she was snapped in her car on the way to the office looking tired and strained, but still chic in satellite-dish sunnies and a sleek dark wardrobe.

Blonde beauties Emma Rigby (of Hollyoaks fame) and uber-babe Claudia Schiffer were both seen about about about in London. Emma was papped tripping prettily out of the Christian Louboutin store in a cool slouchy blazer, stripy tee and skyscraping periwinkle-blue heels, whilst Claudia was spotted doing the school run looking effortlessly European in what looks like a Stella McCartney denim midi-skirt with a printed tee and huge fringed tote bag.

Last but not least, Amy Winehouse was spotted going into her friend Mark Ronson’s gig at Bungalow 8 looking her old self in her trademark 1950s Grease mode of dress, a pair of acid wash pedal pushers, silk top, with a red scarf cheekily tied into her infamous beehive.

Today’s “Spotted in London” fashion award goes to Diana Vickers, who’s style has come such a long way from the cavegirl-hair-and-weird-claw phase. Top marks, Vickers.

Gallery: A celebration of the yummy mummy

By emilyborrett on July 7th, 2010

On Monday, Dannii Minogue and her male-modelling beau Kris Smith became the proud parents of a healthy baby boy named Ethan Edward Smith. With parents that good-looking, little Ethan could grow up to be a potential rival in looks to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s huge brood. Dannii has certainly looked blooming throughout her pregnancy, putting other mothers-to-be to shame by looking impeccably put together every time she’s been papped out and about.

She is just one of the many women in Celebrity Land who still look gorgeous even when they’re about to pop. I hope that I’ll look that good when I eventually get preggers, but it doesn’t seem likely. I expect I’ll be the more common breed of pregnant woman – spotty, puffy-faced and sobbing into a family-sized bag of Doritos. It’s a far cry from the likes of other yummy mummies such as the ever-beautiful Claudia Schiffer and Stella McCartney, who have managed to look incredible throughout their pregnancies despite being the size of a house.

In celebration of all-round yummy-mumminess, here’s a gallery of some of the most stylish mothers-to-be around.

Get the look: Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen

By Andrea Petrou on June 28th, 2010

Taylor Momsen is best known as Gossip Girl’s Jenny Humphrey. However, her real-life style couldn’t be any more different from the preppy pleated skirts and headbands she wears while she’s in character.

Off screen the starlet, and now rock band member, ditches the cardi’s and sensible New York look for ripped jeans, studded belts and her statement stockings and suspender belts as well as mini’s, teeny tiny black dresses, biker jackets and heavy jewellery.

Although some magazines have called her normal style “tragic” we tend to disagree here. Yes her skirts are short and the stockings may not be for everyone, but it’s a look Taylor carries off well. We’ve therefore decided to dedicate a “Get the Look” gallery to the actress giving you highstreet options of her often expensive outfits.

Team up the clothes with heavy eye make-up and bright red lipstick for that all important Taylor look.

Fashion focus: Alexa Chung

By Andrea Petrou on June 28th, 2010

Alexa Chung has moved on from the model and T4 presenter she once was, becoming a fully fledged style icon and trend setter. She’s become a popular face at fashion events, most notably Chanel, which she also chooses to wear on a regular basis, and she’s also not afraid to experiment.

At the Chanel SS2010 show in March this year Alexa opted for clogs, which instantly hit the highstreet after fashionistas fell in love with the footwear. She also braved the double denim look showing us how easy it is to follow the trend without looking like you’re stuck in the 80s.

And it doesn’t end there. Back in April eBay said it saw a rise in all Alexa’s fashion trends after the March edition of Vogue, ran a piece listing the starlet’s style. Dungarees, which Alexa wore with just a necklace, saw sales increase by 75 per cent in the days after the issue went on sale – and denim shorts, of which Alexa admitted she owned 10 pairs, saw sales jump 277 per cent on the auction site almost overnight.

Clogs – similar to the Chanel ones Alexa wore saw a similar sales hike, by just under 200 per cent, according to eBay. Showing how much we love her style.

But Alexa’s style is often born out of her eccentric sense and she often shuns “popular” styles for her trends. In the past this has included Tux’s and crochet frocks.

View our gallery below for all Alexa’s fashion styles and tell us what you think of her trends.

Get the look: Anna Kendrick’s red carpet style at highstreet prices

By Andrea Petrou on June 22nd, 2010

Anna Kendrick is one of the Twilight starlets who has been out shadowed by Kristen Stewart but she’s a fashion icon in her own right.

The star who plays popular girl Jessica in the films has never put a fashion foot out of place turning up to events in gorgeous dresses ranging from sassy and short to elegant ball gown. And she’s also right up to date with her designers.

She wore a stunning Elie Saab couture gown to this years Oscars and an Emilio Pucci short frock to the BAFTAs. However, unlike many of the starlets who hit the red carpet Jessica’s style can easily be copied, especially her short frocks which when toned down with a pair of flats can be a perfect summer evening outfit.

We’ve put together some of her red carpet dresses with some highstreet suggestions, which you can wear on a night out or to a summer BBQ.

Get the look: Kate Moss, The Saturdays and Florence Welch festival hair

By Andrea Petrou on June 18th, 2010

We’ve been having a regular celeb get the look series over here at ShinyStyle and don’t worry we’re not getting rid of that anytime soon. However today we thought we’d mix it up a bit and give you some hot hair tips to help you get the looks of celebrities Kate Moss, The Saturdays and Florence Welch who all brought their own unique hair styles to the Isle of Wight Festival last the weekend. We spoke to top hairdresser Lawrence Anthony, at Want The Look who told us how to recreate these celebrity styles at home or for all the upcoming summer festivals.

View the gallery below to see the celeb’s hair in full flowing action.

Kate Moss

Festival favourite Kate is sporting her usual messy rock’n'roll look but it’s a much longer style thanks to the addition of her new blonde extensions. This boho babe look can be recreated using clip-in hair extensions. Balmain has a great range available in different shades. To get Kate’s textured style roughly dry hair using a body boosting product such as TIGI Queen for a Day. Finish with everyone’s festival favourite TIGI Rockaholic Dirty Secret to give your hair a lived in look.

Frankie Sandford
This Saturday is on trend with a strong A-symmetrical haircut. Frankie’s short, strong undercut style works really well with her rich chocolate hair colour. To achieve her stylish look apply Moroccan Oil Hydrating Styling Cream and blow-dry hair to one side using a paddle brush. Finish with Moroccan Oil Glimmer Shine Spray.

Una Healy from The Saturdays
To recreate Una’s gorgeous flowing locks simply apply a volumising spray, such as Kerastase Volumactive Expansion Spray to give your hair some oomph at the roots and Ciment Thermique to protect your hair from heated styling tools. Blast hair dry and pin it in some big Velcro rollers, set with TIGI S-Factor Vivacious Hairspray. Next, use a heated styling wand to give yourself some more defined curls. Take random sections of hair to mix it up and keep things less uniformed. Top with a cute daisy chain headband for a real hippy festival vibe.

Florence Welch.
This iconic singer is recognised for her fiery-hued hair just as much as her amazing vocal chords and she always works her glam disco look well. To recreate Florence’s style apply Aveda Confixor Liquid Gel to damp hair and blow-dry using a large barrel brush to achieve maximum root lift. Run a styling iron over your thick fringe to keep it looking sleek and then again to create a wave in the hair from the mid-lengths down. Give hair some texture and separation with Aveda’s Defining Whip.

Get the look: Twilight star Ashley Greene

By Andrea Petrou on June 17th, 2010

Ashley Greene has been in and out of the press in the past few weeks. She’s busy promoting the next installment of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse movie and there have been rumours that she will not be filming the next films over disputes about pay. Thankfully, and thanks to our readers who pointed us in the right direction, this has now been resolved and it seems Ashley will be back filming for Breaking Dawn meaning we’ll be able to continue seeing her laid back and smart style.

Unlike her Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, Ashley is more of a girl’s girl opting for femine cuts and colours. Her smart wardrobe consists of fitted dresses by designers such as Antonio Berardi and her casual style is skinny jeans, logo tees and leggings. We’ve put together a gallery of Ashley’s best fashion bits and given you highstreet alternatives to match.

Take a look and tell us which outfit is your favourite by leaving your comments below.
