Spy new Fendi arrivals at Saks Fifth Avenue

By Andrea Thatcher on January 2nd, 2008

Fendi%20new%20arrivals%202.jpg

New Fendi arrivals are now online at Saks Fifth Avenue and we’ve chosen a couple that stand out from the pack for very different reasons. The Fendi Multicolor Spy Bag, $1,280, on the left will at once compliment and help tone down spring’s vividly colored dresses. The dark chocolate, milk chocolate and caramel lamb leathers will pick up the brights without competing. The woven handle and contrast piping add a little something extra to this spy bag. If you’re planning to stick to more of a neutral palette and prefer something a bit more classic, this Chef Leather Frame Bag, $1,360, is probably more up your alley. We see this in Palm Beach while the multicolored spy is in Miami, if you know what we mean.

If you like that, discover all things Fendi at TheBagLady.tv.

By Andrea Thatcher on January 1st, 2008

Isaac%20talk%20show.jpg

If, like me, you’ve watched the same 10 or so reruns of Isaac Mizrahi’s short-lived talk show on the Style network over and over, you’ll be happy to know that new segments of Isaac’s entertaining and witty style advice are coming your way. On Feb. 1 Isaac is launching his own internet TV show on WatchIsaac.com. There are already a few clips up of Isaac telling you why to watch and what he’ll be featuring.

Christina Applegate’s Zuhair Murad dress on TV Guide cover

By Andrea Thatcher on December 24th, 2007

TV Guide has a video of their photo shoot with Christina Applegate for the Dec. 24 double issue, which you can watch above. You get to see lots more of her gorgeous Zuhair Murad dress. Christina Applegate has worn the designer in the past, at the Tony’s, and so may have had something to do with the selection. The Lebanese designer has a large Middle Eastern following, and is best known in the US for designing Jenna Fischer’s dress for the recent Emmy’s (fortunately or not, your call).

A teaser of the Louis Vuitton spring 2008

By Andrea Thatcher on December 21st, 2007

Last week Catwalk Queen had three pictures from the Louis Vuitton spring 2008 advertising campaign staring the likes of Naomi Campbell, Eva Herizgova, and Claudia Schiffer. As it turns out, Marc Jacobs had his director friend, Zoe Cassavetes film a ‘making of’ documentary right there on set. Here’s a short teaser Louis Vuitton has released on Style.com – you’ll have to wait until next Friday, December 28 to watch the whole thing.

Diane von Furstenberg “Elena” Wool Jersey Dress on sale, like everything else

By Andrea Thatcher on December 21st, 2007

DVF%20wool%20dress.jpg

So here’s your weekly sale roundup: everybody’s having a sale. Same-level department stores are all having pretty much the same sale, offering the same deals on shipping until about the same point. So we just thought we’d show you a highlight. This Diane Von Furstenberg dress could be yours for just $127 with a discount applied at checkout. That is an excellent price for a designer wool dress.

Some of the cheapest and chicest dresses of the Net-a-Porter sale

By Andrea Thatcher on December 20th, 2007

Net%20a%20porter%20dress%20sale.jpg

Sure, you could spend $8,584 on the Alexander McQueen feather hem dress that’s 20% off, but to us that’s not a sale price. So we perused the lower end of the dress sale going on now at Net-a-Porter to bring you some affordable gems. The Nanette Lepore Roccoco tank dress, at left, is on sale for $136.50 and would be super easy to layer for winter wear. In the middle we’ve chosen a Diane Von Furstenberg dress – since she’s one of the first names we search for when we see Net-a-Porter’s having a sale. This Elisa lace dress is only $227.50. And at right is a more casual Day Birger et Mikkelsen Venetis tunic dress for $168.

Gisele Bundchen to design for Dolce & Gabbana

By Andrea Thatcher on December 20th, 2007

Gisele%20Dolce%20%26%20Gabbana.jpg

Apparently designers have been scrambling to get Gisele Bundchen to design her own line, but she only caved when close friends Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana asked her to do a capsule range for their line.

The Brazillian model is also a regular face in the D&G clothing and fragrance campaigns (she is currently the face of D&G’s ‘The One’) reportedly earning the label around £75 million in sales.

Described as a “chic and feminine” spring wear line, Kim over at Catwalk Queen predicts a distinctive glam kitten feel to this collection. Bündchen by Dolce & Gabbana is expected to hit stores in early March.

No Reese Witherspoon or Gwyneth Paltrow to gawk at? Why the red carpet might not go on

By Andrea Thatcher on December 20th, 2007

Oscars%202007.jpg

I have been a bit confused about why the Writer’s Guild of Hollywood strike might ruin our red carpet fashion season, and so I thought some of our readers might be too and we could all use a good explanation. It is not just that the writers are refusing to work for the Golden Globes and Oscars, some of the biggest nights in fashion. It’s more about the fact that the writers may be picketting these events, they already have plans to picket the Golden Globes, which would mean actors who walk the red carpet would be crossing picket lines – which so far most have refused to do. Actors have been showing tremendous solidarity with the writers.

What could this mean? There are predictions of a more low-key red carpet, like the one after 9/11, or a regular awards show dinner like they did in the old days without a red carpet. In this contingency, we’re guessing that after parties like Vanity Fair’s would turn into the fashion show.

Natalia Vodianova the new face of Diane Von Furstenberg, and the first in a while

By Andrea Thatcher on December 19th, 2007

Natalia%20DVF.jpg

Russian beauty Natalia Vodianova is set to become the face of the spring DVF campaign – the first ad campaign the label has run in a while.

The pictures were shot last week in Manhattan by François-Marie Banier. Both model and photographer then attended the Guggenheim’s annual Young Artist’s Ball on Thursday where she told Fashion Week Daily: “Diane is an amazing and gracious woman, and to work with her was a true pleasure”.

“She’s done a lot for American fashion, and she’s just such a style icon. Plus her clothes feel like second skin,” she added. The duo is pictures above at The Naked Heart Foundation Auction And Cocktail Party in 2004.

The former Calvin Klein model will also appear next spring in promotional video for Louis Vuitton joining a bevy of supermodels including Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Stephanie Seymour. Guess she’s getting those three kiddies’ college funds in order. Except her husband is a real-estate heir and the half-brother of a Viscount. Maybe it’s the free clothes.

Jimmy Choo Watson ballet flats – and a new flagship

By Andrea Thatcher on December 19th, 2007

Jimmy%20Choo%20flats.jpg

We love these Jimmy Choo Watson flats for their holiday flair and ability to live on in style throughout the year. The square toe is modern and not too angular, with dark faceted jewel accents. They almost look like rock ‘n’ roll studs. Plus, they’re only $340. That’s not bad at all for Choos. We wonder if anyone picked up a pair as a last minute Christmas present at the new Rodeo Drive flagship store that opened on Monday. West Coasters can look for more Choo stores through 2009 in locations like San Diego, Scottsdale, Las Vegas, and Seattle.

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Chloe tie-front raincoat

By Andrea Thatcher on December 19th, 2007

Chloe%20pink%20jacket.jpg

I know it’s Chloe, and we feel bad putting anything of hers in the Yay or Nay category…but it’s pink vinyl. This $1,970 tie-front coat looks a little bit like a raincoat I had in kindergarten, and also one my Barbie had. Which I thought was fabulous at the time, but all grown up … I don’t know. What do you think?

Giorgia Galassi shoes for spring

By Andrea Thatcher on December 19th, 2007

Giorgia%20Galassi%20spring.jpg

I know, I know…spring. But we’ve got to stay ahead of the curve here at Shiny, so we want to bring you what’s new and next even if it does involve showing you open toes when they would give you frostbite. Giorgia Galassi brought her own whimsical, lively personality to her spring collection with colorful floral and metallic sandals. While she took inspiration from the 60′s and 70′s and icons like Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn, she also tries to bring a modern sensibility to her designs. While the Italian designer can be a bit hard to find, you can get her designs on Shop.com.

Catwalk Queen has all the details on the latest Fashion Forward award winners (think CFDA awards for Brits), including Roksanda Ilincic (spring/summer ’08 pictured), Richard Nicoll and Jens Laugesen. The British Fashion Council scheme sponsored by Westfield London will fund the winners, helping them towards establishing their businesses and on schedule show at London Fashion Week.

“Fashion Forward supports emerging creative talent at a time when it is often required the most. Previous recipients of the sponsorship continue to successfully grow and establish their business as influential fashion brands,” said Hilary Riva, chief executive of the BFC.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta at premiere of Charlie Wilson’s War

By Andrea Thatcher on December 18th, 2007

Amy%20Adams.jpg

This Oscar de la Renta dress certainly is a daring choice that adds some curves to Amy Adams‘ figure at the Charlie Wilson’s War premiere, but were not sure if either of those things is good in this situation. We love Adams, and have found her red carpet style to be so-so since she stepped into the limelight lately. But the big bow on this sheath seems a bit out of proportion – both in terms of size and formality. It was one thing when Charlize donned big bows on the biggest night in Hollywood, but this dress and occasion aren’t quite up to that level. What do you think?
