MySpace Launches New Fashion Channel

By Andrea Thatcher on August 28th, 2007

Myspace.jpg

If you’re already addicted to MySpace, you’re really in trouble now that they’ve launched their new fashion channel. Along with fashion show coverage, MySpace and Nylon team up to offer The Fit, where you get to watch how a celebrity stylist dresses your favorite stars. The clip shown above features stylist Johnny Wujek dressing the Plastiscines for a show and afterparty. This will probably be a great resource during fashion week; videos are always better than photos to help you see how a garment moves and reflects light.

Sexy Fall Coat—Burberry Satin Trench

By Andrea Thatcher on August 28th, 2007

Burberry_satin_trench_edited.jpg
One of the only ways to cope with the end of summer is to shop for new fall digs. I found this Burberry fuschia satin trench, and absolutely fell in love! Fashioned with 3/4-length sleeves and a dark, sensual color, it’s perfect for to and from work, and cool fall nights out on the town. The double-breasted button front lends a chic, nautical-like design with a scoop-neck collar to show off a glam choker. Use it as a coat to cover up a slightly skimpy ensemble, or wear it as a dress with leggings for sleek style. Now all we need is hot, new stiletto black boots to complete the look. But beware, if you want this coat, you’ll have to wait a bit—it won’t be available for shipping until October.

Call of the Wild—Kenneth Jay Lane Gold Panther Necklace

By Andrea Thatcher on August 28th, 2007

KennethJayLane%20cat%20necklace.jpg

This Kenneth Jay Lane Gold Panther necklace is almost identical to a pin that I had as a child that my mother bought me at her favorite thrift shop. A perfect conversation piece, this long necklace is dying to be paired with a simple black dress or top and, as everyone knows, leopard is always in style.

Oxford Heels, from the Fall ’07 Runway to Your Closet

By Andrea Thatcher on August 28th, 2007

oxford1.jpg oxford2.jpg

With fall’s sleeker, more grown-up looks, designers like Fendi and Gucci strapped platform oxford heels on their models’ feet to go with the more classical look of their collections. The pair above from Fendi is studded, sky-high, and ultra-expensive. Instead, try the Rosanne pair from Bakersshoes.com, below, for only US$79.95.

Nicole Miller says no to fur

By Andrea Thatcher on August 27th, 2007

Nicole%20Miller.jpg

Bowing to pressure from animal rights activists who planned to stage a protest at her September 5 fashion show, designer Nicole Miller has agreed to go fur-free by spring. It’s nice to see the system work peaceably for the good of all without the fur flying. Oh, did I say fur? I meant pies and paint. Miller claims that her current use of fur is miniscule, with only 12 pieces of her 150,000-piece seasonal offerings including fur trim. So really, why risk a messy protest rally when the controversial material is easily phased out?

New Fall Trend: Trouser Jeans

By Andrea Thatcher on August 27th, 2007

Trouser%20Jeans_edited.jpgAs it becomes more and more acceptable to wear jeans at the office, this fall, denim gets a sophisticated upgrade—to trouser jeans. With flap pockets, wider legs, dark wash, and even creases in the legs for a tailored look, these ‘Manhattan’ rigid denim trousers from Lucky Brand are as professional as they come. I like ’em—I’ve always been a fan of wearing jeans to work, but sometimes it’s hard to find a pair that’s still appropriate for a surprise meeting with your boss. But I have to wonder, What’s next—the denim suit?

By Andrea Thatcher on August 27th, 2007

platform%201.jpg platform%202.jpg

This fall, platform heels remain chic while becoming more streamlined and less clunky. The pair above is from Narciso Rodriguez’s fall 2007 ready-to-wear collection. The peep toe, black leather, and large buckle give the shoe a tough rocker look. For a cheaper, similar shoe try the pair at right from Dru NY found at UrbanOutfitters.com for $150. The patent leather T-strap and platform heel will also give you that rocker vibe while keeping your precious little toes warm as the weather cools.

By Andrea Thatcher on August 27th, 2007

LuanaVallesiBoots.jpg

When you’re ready to jump into fall with a fresh pair of leather boots, don’t settle for anything less than a playful yet sophisticated look. Luana Vallesi offers plenty of fun with this slouched camel-colored pair, complete with matted gold buckles and a ‘washed’ look that doesn’t scream ‘I’m new’ as you make your grand entrance. The boots are made with soft nappa leather and a 3.5” stacked heel. Combined with rubber inserts, these are easy to maneuver in while taking you to your coveted up-to-there heights. A pointed toe proves you’re still one sophisticated lady, regardless of your fall antics playing in the leaves.

Coming Soon: Alice Temperley for Target

By Andrea Thatcher on August 23rd, 2007

AT%201.jpg AT%202.jpg
London-based designer Alice Temperley first introduced her feminine frocks to the English runway in 2003. By the time she debuted in New York in the spring of 2006 she already had a following in America. For her Target Go International collection coming to stores September 16th, Temperley created interpretations of her fall 2007 ready-to-wear collection, using the same gray, black, white, and blue palette, high Victorian necklines, and floppy bow accents, while making the clothing more everyday wearable and, of course, a lot more affordable.

Joining past designers Behnaz Sarafpour, Proenza Schouler, and most recently Libertine, Erin Fetherston has been announced by Target as the next designer for their Go International collection. Fetherston is known for her girly dresses and cute accents like ruffles and bows, and she brings these trademarks to her Target collection. The clothing is very ‘little Parisian girl’ with Peter Pan collars, ruffle accents, and an oversize heart handbag. The American-born, Parsons Paris-educated designer’s collection won’t debut until November (Alice Temperley’s Target line comes first), so for now we’ll just have to ooh and aah over the pictures from the Target pressroom.

Shoshanna shift dress takes summer style into fall

By Andrea Thatcher on July 31st, 2007

Shoshanna_shift%20dress_7.30.07_edited.jpg

It’s not officially fall, yet, so keep those strappy heels handy—you still have time to get some good wear out of this gorgeous Shoshanna silk shift dress. A welcome light fabric and breezy, non-clingy design for those last remaining hot summer days, shift dresses can also be worn into fall by adding a cardigan, a funky pair of tights, and knee-high boots, which would look incredibly hot with this dress. The black & white print is perfect for summer and fall, and I just love the gathered button neckline. Plus, it’s comfy and easy for any woman to wear. It’s a chic look that can be worn to the office, a nice dinner, and struttin’ your stuff at the club. Shift dresses in all styles and patterns were spotted across the fall fashion scene, featured in runway collections by Prada, Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, and other top designers. Get in on the trend—find this beau for $319.
