Designer Pick of the Week: Burberry Patent Travel Slippers

By Andrea Thatcher on October 9th, 2008

Burberry patent travel slippers.jpg

It’s getting to be that time of year when bare feet won’t do for running around the house getting ready in the morning. If you’re the sort to go for luxury in all areas of your life, then these Burberry Patent Travel Slippers will solve that problem nicely.

At $250 they also happen to be one of our more affordable designer picks.

They come with a matching patent pouch which ups their cute factor in our book, and they look to have rubber bottoms so you could wear them out running errands.

Now is the time to buy them because Net-a-Porter is offering free shipping through October 20. Enter FREESHIP2 into the promotional box during checkout.

Designer Pick of the Week: Alexander McQueen biker bag

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on July 15th, 2008

Alexander Mcqueen biker bag copy.jpg

In honor of the new US-only Alexander McQueen online shop, we decided to choose another item from the designer to feature for our designer pick of the week.

This Biker Flapper shoulder bag, $1,740, really caught our eye.

A lot of times it’s the less detailed, more “everyday” designer bags we really latch on to because when you’re spending that much money, you really do want to be able to wear the bag almost every day.

Designer Pick of the Week: Burberry Prorsum stamped leather jacket

By Andrea Thatcher on July 8th, 2008

Burberry jacket.jpg

We are all about the sparkly jackets for fall, and this Burberry Prorsum stamped leather jacket, $3,595, is truly special.

Stamped metal patches on leather give it it’s sequined look. The jacket features hip pockets and a button front.

Netaporter pairs it with a short black skirt, black patent tote and black heels but we can see it worn with everything.

Designer Pick of the Week: Yves Saint Laurent platform T-straps

By Andrea Thatcher on July 1st, 2008

Yves shoes.jpg

Yves Saint Laurent new arrivals are in on Saks Fifth Avenue’s Web site, and we zeroed in on these Tribute Platform T-straps, $995.

In a classic purple and gold color combo and intricate suede straps are just gorgeous. They also come in black if you want something more wearable, but if you’re going for YSL, just go for it.

Designer Pick of the Week: Nappa A Hobo Bag

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 17th, 2008

PRada nappa bag.jpg

We know it’s a little off, but this Nappa A Hobo bag , $2,120, is really growing on us.

It works because the leather looks so soft and supple, the ruched ruffles don’t look stiff like a lot of cheaper versions.

And the monochromish silver and black color palette is sophisticated enough to keep all the detail from overwhelming.

Intermix sale jacket.jpg

While looking around for a fabulous Designer Pick of the Week for you, we realized the IntermixOnline sale is chock full of fashionable finds.

Our fave is this Mike & Chris Jude leather coat. Sure, it’s from last season, but it’s really distinctive and would make a great statement piece in your wardrobe.

Originally priced at $1,288, it’s on sale for $819.

Designer Pick of the Week: Calvin Klein Collection satin dress

By Andrea Thatcher on June 3rd, 2008

Designer POTW CK.jpg

In honor of Francisco Costa’s win for womenswear with his Calvin Klein Collection at the CFDA awards, we chose a dress from his spring 2008 collection for our designer pick of the week.

While most of the collection was comprised of whites and neutrals, we really loved the blue-greens that Costa wove throughout the presentation – like this spectra satin organza strapless dress.

The color really popped and is the perfect thing for spring and summer. It’s easy to go to blues and reds to compliment your whites, but if you’re feeling more fashion and less yankee doodle, teal and sea blue shades are perfect.

Designer Pick of the Week: Vivienne Westwood Anglomania blouse

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 20th, 2008

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania blouse.jpg

It can be hard to dress seasonally-appropriate on a cold, rainy day like today in the Northeast. It can be way easier to throw on a winter sweater that has yet to be put away than to choose a nice spring outfit that will also keep you warm.

That’s why Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania petite floral blouse, $590, is perfect! It has the color we crave this time of year, with an on-trend-for-spring floral print.

This would look really cool with jeans and a jacket, but would dress up for work just as well with a pencil skirt.

How would you wear this blouse?

Designer Pick of the Week: Herve Leger bicolor sweetheart neck tank dress

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 13th, 2008

Herve Leger dress copy.jpg

We chose this Herve Leger dress as our designer pick of the week, because it’s sort of a more wearable version of the ultra-popular bandage dresses from the designer.

The Herve Leger bicolor sweetheart neck tank dress, $1,250, uses the ultra-form-fitting bandage design in black as an empire-waist detail while wider white bands are bit more forgiving throughout the rest of the dress.

The whole design is created with flattering optical illusions – the tight black banding cinches the smallest part of the waist and the inverted V at the hem has a slimming effect as well.

Designer Pick of Earth Week: Theory for Barney’s Green Ellisa Trench

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 22nd, 2008

coop-organic.jpg

We all know by now how hard it is to find organic, eco-friendly clothing. And when you can, it’s mostly T-shirts and jeans – which are fabulous. But sometimes you need more of a style statement.

That’s why we were thrilled by this Ellisa trench from Theory for Barney’s Green, $515. It is crafted of organic sateen with a double breasted style and ruched belted waist.

If you’re a designer shopper, it’s getting easier to go green with your fashion with programs like Barney’s Green and brands like Edun, Loomstate, and Stella McCartney. It is a lot harder for the bargain shopper, but come back Thursday for our bargain pick of Earth week and we’ll do our best.

Designer Pick of the Week: Mulberry Roxanna Patent Tote

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 15th, 2008

Mulberry bag.jpg

It greets us every time we go to the Intermixonline homepage and it has worn us down.

Sure, it’s not very fashiony and it kind of looks like the Hayden Panettiere for Dooney & Bourke bags, but we love this Mulberry Roxanna patent tote, $795.

Red patent leather accessories can be more versatile than you might think – a colorful bag is an easy way to add a pop to an otherwise boring outfit.

Designer Pick of the Week: Prada silk crystal pumps

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 8th, 2008

Prada pumps collage.jpg

The right-off-the-runway footwear from Prada was a little too much for us, but these Prada silk crystal pumps are just right. Except for maybe the price, which is $750.

Designer Pick of the Week: Emilio Pucci tote

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 1st, 2008

Pucci tote.jpg

This bag has everything you need for spring – a bold print in a color palette that will keep you seasonally-appropriate but not too trendy. An entire wardrobe full of summer’s brights would be blinding, so a chic, toned-down piece like this Emilio Pucci tote is a perfect addition to your bag collection.

Designer Pick of the Week: Tod’s leather bag

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 18th, 2008

Tod's handbag.jpg

What is it about spring that has you ogling smaller purses?

Maybe it’s the expectation of carefree days requiring nary a gadget or umbrella in sight that leads to buying purses only big enough for a wallet and some sunglasses.
