Karl Lagerfeld’s favourite shop is Colette in Paris.
The Chanel designer – who was born in Hamburg, Germany, but now spends most of his time in the French capital – loves the city for its shopping opportunities, especially the department store renowned for its trendy clothing.
He said: “My favourite shop is Colette on Rue Saint-Honore. For jewellery I go to Lydia Courteille on Rue Saint-Honore and for books Galignani on Rue De Rivoli. For clothes I shop at Dior Homme.”
The 77-year-old sartorialist has a particular affinity with Paris – renowned as one of the world’s most fashionable cities – and thinks it is incomparable to any other place on the globe.
He added to Stylist magazine: “In Paris I walk in the streets like peasants walk in the village where they are born. There is something in the air.
“Who doesn’t love Paris? You cannot compare it to any other city. Don’t ask me why but that is the way it is. I have houses in the south of France, Vermont and Monte Carlo but I never go there. I like houses for the sake of having houses, but in Paris I am most at ease.”
Despite his love of spending money on expensive homes and clothes, Karl recently professed to thinking design can be good even if it is done cheaply.
He said: “Sure, high fashion can expensive because of the materials and the level of craftsmanship, but design should be good on every price level – and that’s what the high street does so well. Today, you don’t have to have loads of money to be well dressed.”

Soft pastels and sweet stitched illustrations for Autumn/Winter 2011
Not many designers give me that summery, dreamy feeling in my stomach the way that legendary fashion knitwear house Missoni does. Every time Fashion Week rolls around they are one of the first designers I look up on the timetable; their playful and colourful knitted creations instantly make me think of long, lazy vintage summers frolicking in minidresses and sunhats.
While sometimes their designs aren’t totally wearable – see Spring/Summer 2011′s mental Mexican fiesta theme, which featured multicoloured ponchos and schizophrenic Aztec knits – they’re fun, and youthful, and always renew my love for fashion and dressing up.
We’ve put together a gallery of our personal highlights from Missoni’s collections over the past few years, and there are many. At their most recent A/W show they were referencing this laidback, 70s stoner vibe with pink-tinted round sunglasses and pastel-shaded furs, which I completely love and adore. I’m really hoping the high street cottons on to this so that I can afford to get in on the look.
Happy summer, everyone! Make sure to check out our gallery of Missoni’s best designs.

Kate Moss will be a wedding dress trendsetter, according to designer Alice Temperley.
The supermodel is to marry rocker Jamie Hince on Friday (01.07.11) and while she hasn’t revealed the designer – troubled John Galliano is reported to have won the coveted role – Alice thinks she’ll look stunning, whatever she wears.
She told vogue.co.uk: “I am certain she will look absolutely stunning, unique, beautiful with a bit of a rock ‘n’ roll twist. I would love to see her in something vintage looking, romantic and slightly bohemian. However, whatever she chooses, she will look fantastic and I am sure women will want to wear something similar to their weddings for years to come.”
It had been claimed, Galliano – who is currently in rehab following an alleged anti-Semetic outburst, for which he has stood trial for – had already created the much-hyped gown after she reportedly announced it at a Topshop dinner during London Fashion Week.
Kate and Galliano have been close friends since she started out in the fashion business in the early 90s.
She has praised the 50-year-old creative revealing their relationship is based on “mutual admiration”.
Kate said: “Since starting out in the fashion industry I’ve been close to the House of Dior and particularly to John Galliano. Our long friendship is built on mutual admiration and loyalty to each other. Dior has such a luxurious and feminine image.”

Bill Gaytten has been made the new creative director of the John Galliano label.
The 51-year-old sartorialist – who worked with Galliano for 23 years – has replaced the fashion house’s eponymous founding designer after he was fired earlier this year for alleged anti-Semetic remarks.
A statement said: “Gaytten’s expertise to innovate patterns, cut and drape are what define the DNA of the house.”
Bill – who impressed with his collection at the Menswear Fashion Week in Paris on Friday (24.06.11) – said of his official new role: “It’s the same job for me; I’ve been doing it for a long time. The menswear show was a bit different because John wasn’t there. I’m dying to know what he thinks!”
Last week, Galliano appeared in a Paris court, where he blamed his recent outbursts on his addiction to alcohol, sleeping tablets and valium.
His lawyer Aurelian Hamelle said: “One obvious thing is that John Galliano was ill. He had a triple addiction to alcohol, benzodiazepine (valium) and sleeping pills.”
The lawyer said Galliano – who is now back in rehab to receive treatment for his addictions – was mortified to see how he acted in the video and denies being anti-Semetic.
Five people were to give evidence in the trial, which ended yesterday, and the verdict is due on September 8.
If he is found guilty, he faces a huge fine and a six-month prison sentence.

John Galliano has blamed his addiction to alcohol, sleeping tablets and valium for his recent anti-Semetic remarks.
The troubled designer – who reportedly launched a verbal attack on a couple in a Paris cafe in February and was fired as Christian Dior’s creative director in March after a video showed him apparently drunk, telling a woman in a cafe he “loved Hitler” – was in court yesterday where his lawyer blamed his behaviour on his substance abuse problems.
Aurelian Hamelle told the Paris court: “One obvious thing is that John Galliano was ill. He had a triple addiction to alcohol, benzodiazepine (valium) and sleeping pills.”
The lawyer said Galliano – who has since been in rehab to receive treatment for his addictions – was mortified to see how he acted in the video and denies being anti-Semetic.
Five people were to give evidence in the trial, which ended yesterday, and the verdict is due on September 8.
If he is found guilty, he faces a fine of up to £19,500 and a six-month prison sentence.
Following the incidents, Galliano apologised for his remarks.
He said: “Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologise for my behaviour in causing any offence.”

Christopher Kane wants all his collections to be different.
The designer – who counts the likes of Alexa Chung, Leighton Meester and Freida Pinto among his celebrity fans – admits he gets “bored easily” so is always coming up with new ideas for his creations because he enjoys a challenge.
He told Stylist magazine: “Every season I design a very different collection to the last because I like to learn new techniques. I get bored easily so I feel I have to move on. The pressure of that is good because it keeps me on the straight and narrow.”
Christopher also says he appreciates criticisms because he thinks it makes him a better designer and is always willing to learn from his mistakes.
He said: “It’s good to have criticism – I had a lot at college and it didn’t hurt me, it built my confidence.
“Our business has made mistakes along the way. I’m young and not very patient. One minute I love something and the next I hate it. But I don’t regret anything.”

Azzedine Alaia turned down the chance to replace John Galliano at Christian Dior.
Galliano was sacked from the French fashion house earlier this year after he allegedly made anti-Semetic remarks in a Paris cafe and Alaia was offered the job of helming the label, but decided it wasn’t for him.
Journalist Vanessa Friedman reported in the Financial Times newspaper: “Mr. Alaia wasn’t interested. Flattered, but not about to pursue. The story of what happened with John was a sad story, he said when I asked him, and he didn’t want to be part of the next chapter. And that’s even before you got to the other stuff.”
Alaia is not the first designer to be linked the creative director post at Dior.
Riccardo Tisci – head of Givenchy – is also in the running and refused to confirm in recent interview what his future holds.
He said: “I don’t know what will happen. Sincerely, I feel sorry for John. But for this moment I am leaving aside all the gossip of ‘I am going here, I am going there,’ because there is a lot of gossip circulating and there always will be. I will tell you, in this moment, I am very happy at Givenchy and it is a moment in which I am bringing the game to the next level. So I tell you, I feel at home. It’s as if it were my son. I don’t know how to explain it. It would be very difficult for me to leave.”

John Galliano will attend his trial this week.
The troubled fashion designer has been in rehab since he allegedly made anti-Semetic remarks in a Paris cafe in February but insiders say he will be in court in the French capital for the initial hearing on Wednesday (22.06.11).
A source told Vogue.co.uk: “John is still in rehab. The treatment will be long and arduous – and ongoing for a long time in the future – but he is humble, apologetic and hopeful that he can recover.”
The initial hearing – which will be held in front of three judges but no jury as it is a minor offence – is expected to last between four and five hours, with witnesses from both sides giving evidence.
The 50-year-old designer – who was fired from Dior over his remarks – is expected to blame a drug and alcohol addiction for the tirade, while his lawyer Aurelien Hamelle admits John can’t remember the alleged incident.
Aurelien said: “He does not remember because he was in an altered state.”
Speaking about the comments, the lawyer added: “They do not reflect what he thinks. He’s not anti-Semitic or racist.”

Jimmy Choo is launching a capsule collection based on its most memorable styles.
The shoe label – run by British executive Tamara Mellon – has collated a number of famous items including a feather sandal worn by Carrie Bradshaw in ‘Sex and the City’ and a peep-toe once worn by Natalie Portman for the set, which will also feature re-worked new versions of old classics.
Tamara said: “I wanted to create a modern capsule collection by memorable styles from our history that represented milestone moments for the brand and embody the DNA of our house style.
“These modern interpretations of classic designs represent the iconic glamour of Jimmy Choo today.”
The collection will be able to be seen in a book, Jimmy Choo XV, which will be available from February next year.
The footwear brand was recently sold to luxury goods group Labelux for $855 million, with Tamara saying she was “delighted” to be part of the business family.
She said: “I am immensely proud of all we have achieved over the last 15 years and delighted we are to be part of Labelux, a partner that I know shares our values and passion and [that] seeks ambitious growth in the luxury industry.
“This is wonderful news for the women who are, or who aspire to become, part of the Jimmy Choo lifestyle.”

Philip Treacy believes hats do not have to be “eccentric”.
The renowned milliner – who has designed headwear for Victoria Beckham and Duchess Catherine – insists people do not necessarily have to choose a hat that matches their clothing, just something they feel good in.
He told the Wall Street Journal: “The hat is a symbol of Englishness.
“It’s an expression of individuality and, as such, one should choose a hat that one feels good about. It need not be eccentric; the look could be subtle . Not matching is the new matching.”
Fellow milliner Stephen Jones – who has created headgear for Dior and Vivienne Westwood – has also issued a number of headwear tips, urging visitors to horse race meeting Royal Ascot, which requires attendees to wear a hat, to bear all sides of the headwear in mind when deciding which item to wear.
He advised: “Take a hand mirror when you choose a hat, remember there are two sides and a back too!
“Wear the hat at home first, so you get used to the balance.
“Hairgrips are a hat’s best friend, but it’s even better to have your hat put on by your hairdresser if you can.
“Hats can be so many things: tricornes, boaters, bonnets, caps, berets, cloches, headdresses, fascinators, veils, turbans – so don’t be afraid to try new styles and have fun!”

Duchess Catherine made a striking vision for her first public appearance with husband Prince William last night at the 10th annual Absolute Return for Kids (ARK) Gala Dinner at Kensington Palace.
Kate (29) wowed the 1,000 guests in a shimmery dusty pink silk tulle Jenny Packham gown with sequin and crystal embellishment across the waist and L.K. Bennett shoes, with a box clutch to match.
As expected the Jenny Packham dress from her SS11 collection had reportedly sold out in the early hours of Friday 10 June – proving that Kate Middleton is well on her way of becoming a style icon in her role as future Queen.
Prince William looked quite dashing too!

Karl Lagerfeld has designed his own range of glassware.
The German sartorialist has created a collection of crystal with Swedish specialists Orrefors, and unveiled it at a launch in Paris yesterday.
The range features pieces starting at $131 for a champagne flute and $1,600 for a large vase.
Talking about the range, he said: “It’s not like cheap perfume bottles.”
It is not the first time Chanel designer Karl has turned his hand to work on drink receptacles – he has previously collaborated with Coca-Cola Light on a range of bottles.
The limited edition collection was made out of aluminium and featured his own infamous silhouette – complete with pony-tail and a high collared shirt.
Coco Rocha and Baptise Giacobini fronted the brand in a typically Lagerfeld outfit of a white shirt and black neck time.
The bottles, which were only released in France, went on sale costing $63 and came with a matching bottle opener.
