Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2012
As we all know by now, Jason Wu’s runway show is always an absolute highlight for me when NYFW rolls around again. I love his cool, nonchalant approach to fashion, which is perfect for city-slickers and sleek fashion-lovers everywhere. Those people won’t be disappointed with his new Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
Like his previous collection, this collection featured heavily on contrasting shapes and silhouettes as the young designer paired form-fitting, almost Oriental structured blouses and shorts with billowing, slouchy coats for an edgy take on city dressing. Again, much like last season, Wu used the blouse as a staple in his work with an array of crisp white shirts with gem-encrusted collars. Workwear just got taken up a notch.
As for colour, the collection was a pretty myriad of soft peach-pinks with dark blue and grey prints which played off well against each other. I’ve got serious designer lust for his high-waisted, uber-sexy 50s style bikini in a dark grey and blue Eastern floral print – it manages to give a cheeky wink to pin-up girls of the past while still remaining a modern classic.

Steven Alan Spring/Summer 2012
If Rachel Comey’s show was all about city-slicker vibes then Steven Alan’s Spring/Summer collection transported us back to the summer again with his array of simplistic, sugary designs.
The collection was very evocative of long summer evening and idyllic childhoods as the womenswear was mainly comprised of floaty sun-dresses and simple, sugar-coloured separate pieces teamed with straw hats and ladylike purses. It very much reminded us of dressing up in our mum’s summer dresses when we were little for a grand day out, which is quite a nice memory, really. Teddy bear’s picnic, anyone?
Much like Rachel Comey’s work, Steven Alan’s designs have a nostalgic, romantic air about them while still managing to be modern at the same time. This collection is going to be one of our favourites when it comes to planning next summer’s wardrobes – we can already tell. Alan’s ice-blue chinos are gong on my fashion wishlist right now.
Check out the gallery to see the highlights from Steven Alan’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Rachel Comey Spring/Summer 2012
New York Fashion Week has begun! Thank god! We’ve been floating around in fashion limbo for ages now and finally we have something obsess over again – the new Spring/Summer collections. The big names aren’t showing til later in the week, but the week has gone off to a nice start already with some up-and-coming designers. Today we’re looking at Rachel Comey’s new collection.
I have to say that I’ve never really paid much attention to Comey’s work before, but I am definitely impressed by her new Spring/Summer collection. It’s an urban, sleek collection of casual dresses and separates spanning from draped, girlish prints, slouchy jersey T-shirts, modern sunglasses and masculine tailored pieces. I’ve always been more of a lover of decadent, ridiculous avant-garde fashion, but Comey may have just convinced me of the beauty in simplicity. There is nothing contrived or affected about any of the pieces on the collection – it is simply effortless.
The whole vibe of the collection was free-spirited and girlish without losing it’s city-living edge. Sweet floral shorts were teamed with tough sunglasses andpeppermint-coloured tailored shorts were worn with masculine Breton turtlenecks to create a clever balance between hard and soft.
As I said, I haven’t seen much of Rachel Comey’s work – but I like what I see. This girl is gonna be big.

Well, the verdict is in – John Galliano has been found guilty in court today of making anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris cafe in February.
The sentencing is a little better than expected – there was a possibility of the troubled designer serving 6 months in prison, but instead is paying a fine of €17,500, less than the maximum penalty for racist remarks in France.
Since making anti-Jewish remarks on film in a Parisian cafe in February, Galliano has been sacked from his position of creative director at Christian Dior and dropped from his self-titled line as well. Many celebrities and important figures of the fashion industry have since cut ties with Galliano – the actress Natalie Portman, who is Jewish herself and previously has been the face of Dior perfume, said she was “deeply shocked and disgusted” by the remarks.
Basically, nobody knows what is going to happen to Galliano next. Will the industry ever forgive the designer for his prejudiced remarks? Only time will tell.

The fashion designer Roland Mouret has revealed that he refuses to take a muse as inspiration for his designs, as he prefers to be inspired by a variety of different women at once.
His celebrity fans will be weeping into their designer hankies at this news. I bet Victoria Beckham and Kate Middleton are dying to take up permanent residence as a Roland Mouret muse, but the designer says this will never happen.
He told vogue.co.uk: “I design for any woman. I don’t like muses, if you have a muse you put someone on a pedestal. I prefer seeing women as they are, I design for women who enjoy being women.”
One woman he does take a lot of inspiration from, however, is the American Wallis Simpson for whom King Edward abdicated his throne so he could marry her in 1936. All very dramatic and romantic, no?
Mouret gushed about Wallis Simpson: “”Physically, she was very skinny – it was the person that was really attractive – her charisma; how beautiful and sad her life was. She was sexy in a painful way; a painful sexiness. The clothes she wore were austere, but sensual. It was the movement of her body that made her attractive – she was like a perfume, or the way a veil moves – like a ghost almost.”
Well Roland, if you ever change your mind about needing a muse, I can be available whenever you like. Just putting that out there..

Jason Wu Autumn/Winter 2011
And so the Fashion Week fun begins, girls and boys, as one of our favourite fashion months of the year starts off in New York today. I don’t know about you but I’ve been waiting for the NYFW mania to begin for a while now – and while I wait with baited breath to see what the USA’s finest will come up with this season, I’m taking a look at one of the Big Apple’s best designers: Jason Wu.
Wu, who has a large celebrity following including Michelle Obama and Diane Kruger, is one of my favourite Manhattan-based designers because he simply knows how to make a girl look good. His collections may not have the over-the-top couture drama of iconic designers such as Dior and Gaultier, but they are something far more important – truly stylish, wearable designs for real women. When I imagine who Wu, in his mind, designs for it is not a madcap Isabella Blow character but the average fashion-savvy woman on the street.
His last two collections or so are particularly special to me because to me, they show that Wu has really hit his stride now as a designer and found a trademark in elegant tailoring and cocktail dresses. My dream Jason Wu piece? The slate-grey men’s coat from his Autumn/Winter 2011 collection (pictured above in the gallery) with the black lace sleeve details. Such a modern take on masculine fashion.
Take a look at my favourite Jason Wu moments in the gallery above – and keep checking back on the site for NYFW updates.

The singer Adele has admitted that she’s dying to have Christopher Bailey, creative director of Burberry, style her for the next upcoming awards season.
Adele is already having a major fashion moment right now, having just made the cover of UK Vogue – but we think seeing the singer decked out in Burberry would be the icing on the cake. Apparently, they’re already planning a style collaboration. Oh, to be a celebrity…
The Someone Like You singer told Vogue: “I love old school. Chanel, Prada, you know. And Burberry, definitely. I’ve met Christopher Bailey a few times. He’s definitely going to dress me for the next lot of awards – if I’m nominated. I’ve always loved Burberry. I remember saving for three years to get my first bag before I got signed. Five hundred quid, I think it was, made of canvas with the logo like a satchel.”
Okay, now I’m just gonna put something out there. Burberry, if you get bored of styling Adele, I’d also like to be styled by you for awards season. I know I won’t be invited or anything – just something beautiful to wear while I watch it on TV, really… No? Oh, okay then.

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen is up for the "Designer of the Year" award
This year’s ultimate who’s who of fashion begins as we’ve just discovered who the nominees are for 2011′s British Fashion Awards. Get ready, girls and boys..
The coveted “Designer of the Year” award has three potential nominees: Sarah Burton, who has taken over the helm at Alexander McQueen’s since her predeccessor’s death, Christopher Kane whose collections featured liquid-looking plastic and crochet dresses and Erdem, whose dresses have a delicate fairy-like beauty.
“Designer Brand of The Year” has four designers vying for the award. Burberry, one of London’s favourite fashion houses, is nominated, as is our very own Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham, whose latest collections have proved that the ex Spice Girl is more than just another famous name tacked onto a fashion project. They will all be going up against the right honorable Tom Ford, who has recently returned to designing womenswear.
“Model of the Year” is between Georgia Jagger, Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy. Our money is on Jagger to win – our very own little Brigitte Bardot.
Nominated for the the “Accessory Designer” award is Emma Hill for Mulberry, along with Katie Hillier and shoe designer Charlotte Olympia. We adore all three, but how could Mulberry not bag the award? We’ll have to wait and see to find out if we’re right.
This has been such an exciting season for fashion, and we absolutely cannot wait to see who’s going to snatch the most prestigious awards. The British fashion industry is magical, and we can’t wait to see so many of our favourite names honoured with the awards.
To read the full list of nominations, see
here.

Not only does she look like the girl next door, but it’s obvious that Kate Bosworth was brought up with a sense of good manners as the actress has revealed she only likes to wear fashions designed by nice people.
The blonde beauty, who is often a familiar face at Fashion Week and is always impeccably dressed, spoke out about her particular process of choosing what – and who – to wear.
Kate said: “I’ve always seen fashion as embracing the individual, although yes, I understand that there are parts of the industry that aren’t so welcoming. But I look at the Proenza Schouler boys – they’re so kind and they make such brilliant designs. The Rodarte sisters, too. It may be idealistic, but I like to think that goodness rises to the top.”
And naturally, Madamoiselle Bosworth knows the fashion industry well, with a father who’s worked extensively in the Italian fashion industry, a close friendship with the fashion house Proenza Schouler and her own ecommerce site Jewelmint.
No mean fashion snobbery for this girl, then. Hear, hear! Listen up, designers – throw a hissy fit or start name-calling and this actress will never wear your designs again. You have been warned..

The Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz finds it difficult to understand the fast pace and rapidly changing seasons of the fashion world, and believes that the strict and constant deadlines that designers have to meet is the reason that so many sartorialists succumb to stress.
Elbaz, who is much-loved for his work at French fashion house Lanvin, said: “I don’t understand this marathon of fashion. Today, designers are expected to produce work that is bigger, better, faster and – these days – cheaper. A singer can quit once he or she has made ten great songs, a director can finish once he or she has made five amazing films, a writer just needs to write three great books. Now let’s look at designers – they produce six to eight shows a year, most designers have a 20-year-long career, so I need to create about 250 collections in that time. Not even Danielle Steel could write 250 books. You start to understand why some designers do strange things, why some designers talk to themselves, you have to find a way of dealing with it all.”
It’s no wonder that so many designers are rumoured to be screaming, difficult divas then. There should be a charity for them or something. On another note, not many designers compare themselves to Danielle Steel. It’s kinda cute.

John Galliano will not appear in court the day that his trial’s verdict will be announced, according to Twitter statements.
The troubled designer, who has been taken to court for his anti-Semitic attack on a couple in a Paris cafe, has decided that he does not want to be present in the courtroom when the verdict of his trial is read out.
The infamous Dior designer claims that he has no recollection of the reprehensible anti-Jewish statements that he was caught making on video, and puts his antisocial behaviour down to his problems with substance abuse.
His lawyer said about the unfortunate incident: “One obvious thing is that John Galliano was ill. He had a triple addiction to alcohol, benzodiazepine (valium) and sleeping pills… He does not remember because he was in an altered state. The comments do not reflect what he thinks. He’s not anti-Semitic or racist.”
Who knows how the trial will turn out, though the public certainly haven’t reacted well to his remarks. Watch this space and see what happens next..

The fashion designer Tom Ford has criticised Princess Beatrice’s now infamous hat that she wore to the Royal Wedding.
It’s always scary to have your wardrobe criticised, but having Tom Ford pass comment is scary – this is, after all, the man who’s fashion know-how intimidates even Victoria Beckham.
We all remember Princess Bea’s outfit for the royal wedding as it was hard to miss – the red-headed royal was largely slated for turning up to the nuptials in an eye-grabbing couture Phillip Treacy hat. Tom Ford commented on Bea’s headwear choice: “I’ll probably get in trouble for saying this, but at the royal wedding, one of the princesses wore a now-very-famous (or infamous), Philip Treacy hat – that hat wore her. Now, Isabella Blow, a woman those of us in fashion knew well – had she worn the same hat, it would have looked great. She would have worn the hat. She knew what she was about, what she wanted to express in fashion.”
Take note, Princesses – you have been warned by the main man in fashion himself. Leave the scary couture to the Isabella Blows of the fashion world!

The celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe has admitted that she’s “terrified” about the debut of her new fashion line, which will be shown in the upcoming New York Fashion Week. Yay, super-stylists get nervous too!
Rachel, who’s famous in the past for weaving fashion magic over Hollywood’s elite, told the fashion site FabSugar: “Nervous, excited, petrified, anxious, terrified . Did I mention terrified? I’m terrified.” Well, if her taste in clothes is anything to go by then the designs will be good – then again, you never can tell til you see it on the runway..
Despite her trepidation, Rachel Zoe is also excited about her new project, having recently compared finishing a collection to “giving birth”. “Being a designer was the thing that I always said, ‘I’m never going to do this, because I’m too scared to do this’. All of sudden during my presentation this season, I was like ‘Oh my god, why am I doing this, I’m too scared to do this. Then it was like, it was almost like giving birth. When it was over, I was like, ‘This is the most exciting, most challenging adventure. This is new, and this is fun.’ ” We can’t wait to see what she comes up with.

Zac Posen has revealed that he is planning to return to New York Fashion Week after previously showing in Paris.
Zac, who is loved by all women for his sultry, opulent designs, is moving back to New York Fashion Week because he feels “just like it’s the right time”. The designer said: “Paris is wonderful but it just feels like the right time to show in New York.”
His previous collection for Autumn/Winter 2011, which was showed in Paris, was his trademark array of sculptural-looking evening gowns, this time in leather and metallic fabrics for a harder take on the seventies trend – I absolutely cannot wait to see what he comes up with next, whichever city he’s in.
He went on to explain the city change: “For the Zac Posen Collection, I wanted to give a different voice and focus in the international fashion arena. Obviously, New York has been extremely supportive of me and the stars were aligned to base Z Spoke in my hometown. I have learned over the past 10 years to trust my instinct, to have fun with experimentation and to innovate. I do not see this choice as a focus on Europe, rather, it’s about taking a risk, which is something that is important to do as a creator in order to evolve.”

Matthew Williamson has been given the opportunity to showcase his new collection specially inside the Tate Modern during London Fashion Week (yes, it’s nearly here again, guys!)
This has never been done before, so it’s going to be a bit of a unique fashion happening. A member of Williamson’s team told Vogue: “For our spring/summer 2012 collection we have chosen to show in the turbine hall inside the Tate modern gallery on the Southbank. It’s the first time a designer has been able to show in this iconic London landmark building and we are thrilled to have this opportunity.”
Matthew said about his Tate plans: It’s an amazing space which I feel will contrast really well with the collection. I’m looking forward to creating an intimate space within the hall and seeing the intricately detailed clothes work against the stark, minimalist structure.”
Whether you have the time of day for modern art or not (I don’t at all) we think you’ll all be able to find the time for some beautiful Matthew Williamson dresses, no?
