Designer Pick of the Week: Herve Leger bicolor sweetheart neck tank dress

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 13th, 2008

Herve Leger dress copy.jpg

We chose this Herve Leger dress as our designer pick of the week, because it’s sort of a more wearable version of the ultra-popular bandage dresses from the designer.

The Herve Leger bicolor sweetheart neck tank dress, $1,250, uses the ultra-form-fitting bandage design in black as an empire-waist detail while wider white bands are bit more forgiving throughout the rest of the dress.

The whole design is created with flattering optical illusions – the tight black banding cinches the smallest part of the waist and the inverted V at the hem has a slimming effect as well.

Bargain Pick of the Week: Old Navy Neon Nights collection

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 8th, 2008

Old Navy neon nights.jpg

We’re really digging the colors and patterns on the dresses in Old Navy’s new neon nights collection.

The georgette halter dress, shown on left in the allover print, could go everywhere from a graduation party to chic seaside dinner. It’s just $39.50.

The halter dress on the right, $34.50, is a little sweeter and more casual. Run errands or hang around the house in style.

Betsey Johnson, pattern maker

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 23rd, 2008

Betsey Johnson patterns.jpg

Betsey Johnson’s spring dresses are all about patterns with polka dots and checks galore.

The gingham cotton lycra flare dress, $285, looks a little like something Paris Hilton would have worn on The Simple Life. But Betsey is nothing if not humorous and a bit kitsch, so you could totally run with that concept. We would recommend ditching the strings and making this dress strapless.

Bohemian pieces for a summer of love

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 14th, 2008

Bohemian pieces.jpg

Summer generally has even the preppiest pearl-lover looking wistfully at peasant tops and freeflowing layers. And hippie fashions can hide hippy flaws – bonus! It’s easy to integrate one or two pieces into your wardrobe since bohemian goes great with jeans. Keep reading for product details.

See Chanel-esque stars for less at ASOS

By Andrea Thatcher on April 14th, 2008

Chanel stars collage.jpg

The star prints that Chanel sent down their Spring/Summer 2008 ready-to-wear runway created one of the most recognizable trends of the season. Highly recognizable usually means highly inspirational, and the folks at ASOS were sure inspired. See product details below.

Maxi dresses are maximum cute on Forgetting Sarah Marshall costars Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 11th, 2008

Forgetting Sarah Marshall.jpg

Two of our favorite TV girls have taken on the big screen in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and took on maxi dresses at the red carpet premiere of the comedy. Kristen Bell, of former “Veronica Mars” fame, wore a Jenni Kayne creation while Mila Kunis, who most will remember as Jackie on “That 70′s Show,” wore Missoni. Both floor skimming dresses were strapless with empire waistlines.

Trend appeal: Alexander Wang sheer dress

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 8th, 2008

Alexander Wang dress.jpg

We love this Alexander Wang sheer dress and slip combo, $435, for flaunting the sheer trend in the most sophisticated style possible.

This cobalt creation is crafted of cotton and organza for an ethereal look and feel, over a nude slip.

The deep V and keyhole are offset by a more covered up bottom and slouchy style.

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 2nd, 2008

We don’t usually feature people for Yay or Nay here at ShinyStyle, it seems mean. But our love for Parker Posey is such that we hope it evens out any ill-will toward this outfit. You know, in terms of fashion karma.

American Living at J.C. Penney

By Andrea Thatcher on April 1st, 2008

american living.jpg

I recently had the chance to check out the new American Living label designed by Ralph Lauren for J.C. Penney and was quite pleased with the results. Think Polo Ralph Lauren, but cheaper (though not as much cheaper as you might hope at J.C. Penney).

AJ Michalka, America Ferrera, and Cameron Diaz at the Kids’ Choice Awards

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 31st, 2008

Kids Choice collage 1.jpgClick image to enlarge.

Funny how the Kids’ Choice Awards produce so much grown up fashion! The age discrepancy amongst some of the honorees is a little ironic, but heck! It’s Hollywood. Above is Amanda Michalka, aka A.J. from Aly & A.J., and more exitingly the upcoming movie adaptation of The Lovely Bones, in BCBG Max Azria. For a relative unknown I thought she was one of the more fashion-forward on the red carpet.
