Dannii Minogue thinks more dresses need to “flatter” arms.
The Australian star works on her own fashion line Project D with friend Tabitha Somerset Webb, and although she has no technical experience, the sexy singer does believe she knows what works to help women feel their best.
She said: “I have worn dresses in the glare of public scrutiny. I know how a great dress needs to work.
“I want to know, for example, what is it with designers and sleeves? Why is it so hard to buy a dress that flatters your arms?”
However, the 39-year-old star admit she was not completely confident when she decided to wear a Project D dress on the UK version of ‘The X Factor’ for the first time because she had only just given birth to first baby Ethan with British hunk Kris Smith.
She told Grazia magazine: “The first time I wore Project D on the show I was so nervous. It was the Jingle dress – fitted, knee-length, full skirt – very ‘Mad Men’.
“I’d only just had a baby and had completely changed shape. I felt so insecure.”
Despite the weather having taken a turn for the worse, we still want to show our bronzed legs off by wearing cute summery dresses. As we’re always on the look-out for new additions to our ever growing wardrobe, we’ve scoured the high street to see which new dresses the shops have brought out this week.

Posh's matenity style gets her in at top place
Duchess Catherine made a striking vision for her first public appearance with husband Prince William last night at the 10th annual Absolute Return for Kids (ARK) Gala Dinner at Kensington Palace.
Kate (29) wowed the 1,000 guests in a shimmery dusty pink silk tulle Jenny Packham gown with sequin and crystal embellishment across the waist and L.K. Bennett shoes, with a box clutch to match.
As expected the Jenny Packham dress from her SS11 collection had reportedly sold out in the early hours of Friday 10 June – proving that Kate Middleton is well on her way of becoming a style icon in her role as future Queen.
Prince William looked quite dashing too!

If you’ve been reading ShinyStyle for a while now then you’ll know that we’re just as big fans of independent and one-of-a-kind fashion as we are of the great British high street. There’s nowhere better to discover new unknown talents than at Etsy, a site where people can advertise and sell their own handmade goods.
Today on Etsy.com I discovered Dig For Victory, a Brighton-based fashion label that specialises in making classic retro dresses in vintage fabrics. I couldn’t have discovered this label at a better time. It’s finally sexy to have a waist and curves again, and I think I’d like to celebrate my more generous assets with a timeless pin-up dress. Curvy girls, who’s with me?
Going all-out with a 1950s outfit can feel daunting (the first time I bought a vintage prom dress I felt like I was wearing a costume), so leave that to die-hard lovers of all things retro if you’re feeling shy. But a sexy full-skirted prom dress or tea dress doesn’t have to look old-fashioned at all – instead of teaming one with all-vintage, why not try it with some edgy heels and a tailored blazer for a look at that’s playful and sexy?
As a self-proclaimed lover of all things vintage, Dig For Victory’s classic designs drew my eye immediately. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen garments like these so beautifully and artfully constructed – the dresses are reminiscent of Christian Dior’s classic 1950′s collections. The owner of Dig For Victory, Eleanor Callaghan, should be extremely proud of the gorgeous designs that she’s making. Check out the gallery for my favourite pieces from her Etsy store.
How did we ever let the actress Kirsten Dunst slip off our radar? Once one of the best-dressed festival-goers, up there amongst the Siennas and Kates with her Ray-Bans and slouchy laid-back outfits, she’s been a little more low-profile of late. But the angel-faced actress has exploded back into our consciousness since her sartorial appearances at this May’s Cannes film festival, during which she dazzled us with a particularly incredible tiered Chanel gown. Oh yeah, and she also won “Best Actress” for her role in her new film Melancholia. Basically, the girl is back and she has more game than ever.
Far from some of her less sophisticatedly-dressed Hollywood counterparts, Kirsten has spurned minidresses and huge hair for understated elegance, opting for floaty midi-dresses and beautifully delicate-feminine fabrics that compliment her fairy-like good looks perfectly. Her whole easy style and demeanour says to us “I have never once accidentally showed a paparazzi my pants”. And that’s a style that us hopeless norms should probably try a little harder to emulate.
Check out the gallery of our favourite 2011 Kirsten looks and comment on the gallery below to let us know that you think of the actress’ style.

We love the British Soap Awards. Usually because it’s a chance for us to get a little bit critical and laugh about the garish red carpet fashions.
However, this year it seems the soap elite have wised up, with hardly a lady putting a high heeled foot wrong on Saturday’s red carpet.
Leading the way was Hollyoak’s starlet Jennifer Metcalfe who went for a Cheryl Colesque black backless pantsuit. She led the backless tone for the rest of her ‘Oaks cast with Jorgie Porter opting for this look with a green pantsuit, and Stephanie Waring going for a backless grey frock.
Also flying the flag for the teen soap was Jackie Cooper who went for a white plunge neck frock with a split, she was joined in the white dress stakes by ‘Enders starlet and best actress winner Jessie Wallace who looked stunning in a white Grecian frock complete with an embellished neckline, while her co-star Shona McGarty went for a questionable purple frock, which showed off her midriff.
Over in the Corrie camp, we were disappointed by Michelle Keegan’s garish gold frock, however, Brooke Vincent’s lime green Lipsy frock, with her own customised beading saved the soap in terms of style.
Trend wise, Sarah Dunn and Suzanne Shaw flew the flag for 50s tea length and pleats, while Samia Smith had a play with the colour block trend.

Emma Watson has been named the world’s best-dressed woman.
The 21-year-old actress, who has previously been a UK Vogue cover girl and is the face of Lancome make-up, beat Cheryl Cole – last year’s number one – to the top spot in a list by Glamour magazine.
Fashion designer Victoria Beckham dropped seven places in the list to 15th, although Beyonce Knowles suffered the biggest slide from ninth last year to 36th.
Among the surprising entries are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter Suri, who despite being just five years old was said by the magazine to have “the most covetable wardrobe in Hollywood”.
British prime minister David Cameron’s wife Samantha – who caused controversy by being among the only female guests at the wedding of Prince William and Princess Catherine on Friday to not wear a hat – was among the newcomers at number 19.
The full list was compiled by over 15,000 votes on Glamour.com, and will appear in the June issue of the magazine.
See the gallery below for the ladies that came in the top ten.
We’re going all gooey and girlie at the moment over one of Spring/Summer’s most exciting trends: the new midi-lengths, seen everywhere from the catwalks of Marc Jacobs to Prada. A look that manages to be both prim and knowingly sexy, playing up to every bloke’s “stern secretary” fantasy, this a very classy way to show off your feminine and playful side.
Autumn/Winter 2010 saw midi hemlines worn in heavy wools, camels and tweeds, but now things are getting a whole lot frothier and girlier as the high street takes inspiration from Chloe’s S/S 2011 collection, which was filled with long, floaty creations fit for a ballet dancer. Think romance and flower fairies as this season’s dresses are coming in sugary pastel colours and pleated, draped fabrics.
There have been stunning pieces from the likes of Chloe and Marchesa who’ve worked this trend for Spring, but there’s also a rich seam of beautiful midi-length gems on the high street. Asos is teeming full of them – our absolute favourite piece is their pleated midi-skirt in a pale sky blue, which can be worn with a sheer shirt to keep the look super-girlie or a leather jacket and black lace to toughen things up.
To see our favourite pieces on the high-street, check out the gallery above.
The good weather is officially back – yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far, and you can bet your bottom dollar that I had myself a Callippo – and so ShinyStyle finds itself searching for the best summer trends in earnest. And here’s one that we can totally get behind: peekaboo back cleavage, a modern alternative to flaunting your bosoms to all and sundry. Sexy, not slutty, chic, not cheap, this is a trend that we can get behind.
Whether it’s just a cheeky flash of skin that you’re after to show off your blissful new tan, or full-on bum skimming backless numbers, there’s a garment out there to you to rock this summer.
As we all know, it can be so tempting when it’s impossibly hot in the summer to dig out your skimpiest clothes, never mind that you look more Katie Price than Kate Moss, and brave it in public. But the backless is sexy, elegant and chic all the way.
We’ve included in the above gallery a couple of our favourite fashion mavens showing us exactly how it’s done when it comes to showing off your back; who can forget Diane Kruger’s jaw-droppingly glitter-encrusted backless Atelier Versace number that she wore to the Inglorious Basterds première, or the plunging nude number that Kylie was seen out in earlier this month?
Check out the gallery to see how Di and Kylie worked the look, and our favourite pieces from the high street.
