Topshop and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have joined forces draw attention to the treatment of exotic animals killed for their skins. The high street store has created a display at its flagship Oxford Street store in London.
The display, which can be seen in the shop’s main window today until Monday, 18 March, features a wardrobe with exotic animals spilling out and the caption “Keep Wildlife Out of Your Wardrobe”. It goes on to urge shoppers to visit PETA UK’s website to sign a pledge never to wear exotic skins.
“Topshop knows that the only place for exotic skins is on their original owners”, says PETA Senior Programme Manager Yvonne Taylor. “Through the years, Topshop has set the industry standard for promoting animal welfare, and its latest high-profile display at the heart of London’s busiest shopping street will help save many snakes, alligators and other animal victims of the fashion industry from an excruciatingly painful death.”
As shown in PETA US’ exposé of the exotic-skins trade – narrated by acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix – snakes, alligators and other exotic animals who are killed for their skins are commonly nailed to trees, bludgeoned with hammers and skinned alive. It often takes hours for the animals to die, usually from shock or dehydration. Nice.
PETA and Topshop have collaborated on several previous occasions to make it clear that they oppose the cruel fur and exotic-skins trades. Topshop was recently presented with a PETA-Approved Vegan Fashion Award in the category of Most Stylish Women’s Knitwear for the company’s trendy cream-and-lime jumper.

Leading lady Cate Blachett looked every part the on-screen Goddess as she graced the green carpet at yesterday’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in a floorlength winter white Givenchy gown. Film buffs out there might remark that Cate looked a bit like Princess Leia (you know, her from that other famous film empire…).

Cate, who plays Galadriel in the Middle Earth saga, completed her ethereal look- vamped up with an unexpected backless cut out detailing - by keeping her blonde locks in a simple up-do.

This isn’t the first time the Australian beauty has impressed spectators with her sartorial choices – check out the gallery below if you don’t believe us.

When you reach a certain age (no we’re not going to tell you ours) it seems like a secret memo gets sent out that ‘now is the time to marry’ and the number of weddings you’re requested to attend go from zero to one billion. OK perhaps not so dramatic, but you get the idea. If you’ve hit this age (not telling..) and perhaps you’ve even been asked to be a bridesmaid (yay!), chances are - unless your friend has planned her wedding since she was five – you’ll soon have a bride searching for inspiration on your hands. If this is you, a great place to start is to bring the bride-to-be to a wedding show.
This December, our sister site Bridalwave has teamed up with the National Wedding Show 2013 to offer six pairs of tickets to either the London Olympia Show (February 22-24) or Birmingham NEC (1-3 March) this coming spring.

Designer decadence filled the MTV VMA red carpet with a range of stars stepping out to celebrate the event.
Rihanna showed off her cropped locks and a long white dress at the video based awards, while Alicia Keys went for a silver one-shoulder number. Miley Cyrus went for a traditional long black dress, while Taylor Swift looked cute in a white tailored suit.
Katy Perry also kept it toned down in a floral number, while Rita Ora blinged up the red carpet in a patterned bodysuit.

Britain has been buzzing with the Olympics for a good few months now. And with the event officially kicking off today, there’s bound to be much more excitement surrounding the games over the next few weeks.
However, it’s not just the public that’s been taken in by this huge event, with designers across the globe all making sure they give a nod to this sporting event.
Prada, Karl Lagerfeld and of course Stella McCartney are just a few of the designers who have paid tribute to this event, creating capsule collections, and in some cases, the outfits for different country’s teams.
See a few of these in the gallery below.

Whilst we were celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee, A-listers were out and about attending a range of events.
Emma Watson dazzled in a marble print short dress at the MTV Movie Awards.
She was joined in the style stakes by Kristen Stewart who went for her trademark short dress- this time a luxe silver number, and Charlize Theron who vamped it up in a red VB frock.
Over at the CDFA Fashion Awards, Dakota Fanning and Kate Bosworth both gave nods to the 60s with cute printed bohoesque dresses. We heart.

Dark Shadows: Johnny Depp

ALL IMAGES: PRESS ASSOCIATION
Johnny Depp was quizzed about the state of his relationship with Vanesssa Pardis at the premiere of his latest movie, Dark Shadows, in London last night. And – according to reports – the man of few words lost his cool.
At the start of this year, the couple were plagued with rumours that their 14-year romance had come to an end, leaving Vanessa to eventually deny the reports. The Joe Le Taxi singer told French chat show Le Grand Journal back in January: “It’s false — this rumour could cause a lot of harm to my family and my children.”
Wearing blue shades and unusual cowboy jacket Depp was once again asked last night whether his relationship with Paradis was over – leaving the 48-year old apparently annoyed by the questions. Speaking of the break-up allegations, Johnny is quoted by The Sun as saying: “The rumours are not true. They are absolutely not true.”
He added that there was “no way” he had split with Paradis, before stating that despite denying the reports – no one ever believes him.
Depp explained: “No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite. I can’t say enough about it not being over.”
Based loosely on the cult 1960s supernatural TV drama, you can see a trailer from Dark Shadows below:

BlackBerry BBM event - with Jessie J
Jessie J performs at BlackBerry's BBM event, a celebration of the smartphone's free instant messaging app, held at the Bankside Vaults in London.
Well it all started so brightly with a celeb-tastic turnout at the Pulse nightclub at Bankside Vaults, underneath Blackfriars Bridge. But after fine performances from Wretch 32 and Jessie J, a man was stabbed violently in the neck with a broken bottle while waiting in the queue for the cloakroom.
Apparently, the stars of TOWIE were locked in the toilets during the horrific events, while others reported seeing nightclub bouncers covered in blood in the toilets. Inevitably some party goers took to Twitter as the drama unfolded.
Big Brother star Bobby Sabel tweeted: ‘”Incident” at the Jessie j / blackberry party. We’re all stuck in here! I just want to get in my cab!’
He added later: ‘Carnage! Literally the whole crowd is stampeding against the police!’
It’s the sort of publicity that the troubled BlackBerry brand could do without, especially after its BBM Messenger service was cited as playing a role in helping looters communicate their tactics during last year’s London riots.
Shiny Style was at last night’s event for BlackBerry and can verify that it was a very boozy affair with many teenagers at the event, many of them taking full advantage of the free bar like they’d never had a free drink before (maybe they hadn’t).
By 11.45pm it was certainly mayhem on the dance floor as people were literally falling over from too much booze.
Thankully we left minutes before the horrific incident which has left a man in hospital fighting for his life.
After the event Jessie J tweeted: “My thoughts are with the person who was seriously injured last night at the Blackberry Bbm party. So sad. I really hope they are ok.”

Making a fashion come back was Lindsay Lohan who showed off a white frock that matched her almost white bleach blonde hair, while Gossip Girl Leighton Meester went for a black dress with a faux fur skirt.
Adding some colour to the night was Sarah Jessica Parker who went for a flowing pale pink frock teamed with a biker jacket while Nicky Hilton went for a cute white lace dress.

It was hardly a glittering star studded red carpet event, but the celebrities who performed and attended last night’s Superbowl XLVI made it an A-list worthy sports event.
Madonna was our celebrity of the night, performing at half time alongside Nicki Minaj. However those hoping to see a little bit of flesh as has become tradition at this event – either purposely or by Janet Jackson accident- would have been disappointed with Madge choosing a short black dress and grey tights to perform.
Nicki Minaj also kept it safe with a patchwork cheerleader style dress and leopard print tights.
Kelly Clarkson added a classic black dress to the performing mix, while over at the stands Meg Ryan went for a leather jacket.

If there is one place we wish we were right now it is New York – and Christie’s – and The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor.
After completing a three month world tour, the iconic collection has now come to its final destination before it is being auctioned off later this month. Among the pieces to be auctioned off are: the sunflower-yellow chiffon dress Taylor wore to her wedding to Richard Burton in 1964, an Andy Warhol lithograph portrait of the iconic Hollywood legend, personal mementoes and stunning jewellery pieces such as the diamond ring gifted to her by Richard.
A display of Old Hollywood glamour and the culture of America, this is an amazing collection that is almost sad to see being split apart.
The collection will be on display at Christie’s New York for ten days from tomorrow, Saturday 3December, before the auctions start on 13 December.
Take a look at some of the gems in the gallery below and visit www.christies.com for more information.

Most women dream of owning a designer handbag, but seeing as most of them cost the equivalent of a month’s rent it usually stays just a dream. However, what if I said buying said bag also means that you’d be doing something for a charitable cause…
British fashion model Erin O’Connor is leading the celebrity support of Save the Children’s Christmas ‘Bag to Save a Life’ appeal when it launches tomorrow, Friday 25th November 2011. Erin is joined by other well-known names such as Sienna Miller, Tilda Swinton, Florence Welch, Gemma Arterton, Georgia May Jagger, Annie Lennox and the UK’s Prime Minister’s wife and Save the Children Ambassador, Samantha Cameron to raise funds for the charity’s lifesaving work in the poorest countries.
If you fancy snapping up a bag by the likes of Christian Louboutin, Mulberry, Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu, Prada and many more – donated or designed by the lovely celeb ladies previously mentioned – make sure you join in on the online auction from tomorrow on www.savethechildren.org.uk/bagtosave.
Samantha Cameron has donated her Jimmy Choo bag, Sienna Miller a Miu Miu, Tilda Swinton has donated a bag from Chanel AND a bag from Victor & Rolf, while Gemma Arterton has donated a leather patent Prada bag.
If you want to take part in the auction, the starting price will be at around a quarter of the bags’ recommended retail price. You can also donate any unwanted bags you might have laying around at any of the Save the Children stores around the UK to be included into the auction.
The online auction will be live from Friday 25th November to Sunday 4th December 2011.

My my what a pretty Miu Miu (donated by Sienna Miller)
