British Soap Awards Special: Michelle Keegan wins Sexiest female and we look at her competition

By Andrea Petrou on May 10th, 2010

Of all the different award categories of the British Soap Awards night, the Sexiest female award is probably one of the most coveted.

And this year was no different with actresses Preeya Kalidas, who plays Amira in Eastenders, Sammy Winward who plays Katie in Emmerdale and Sophie Abelson who plays Cherry in Doctors being some of the few who were nominated for this award.

However it was Michelle Keegan who plays Tina in Coronation Street, that beat all these girl’s to the post, and we have to say we think she deserves it.

Dressed in an on-trend nude mini strapless frock, which she teamed up with white peep-toe slingbacks, the actress cut a striking figure amongst her soap counter parts.

Take a look at the gallery featuring the other girls nominated for this award and let us know if you think Michelle won the crown in both the sexiest and style stakes by voting and leaving your comments below.

Fashion Face Off: Kristen Stewart Vs Ashley Greene

By Andrea Petrou on April 29th, 2010

We’ve had a Twilight themed week here on ShinyStyle with fashion face-offs between Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart and another between R-Patz and Daniel Radcliffe.

Therefore we thought it only right that we carried this on and this time we’ve decided to play two Twilight actresses against each other – Kristen vs Ashley Greene.

The actress who starred alongside Kristen as Alice Cullen in the films auditioned 5 times for a part in the movies, and says she originally auditioned for the part of Bella.

But did she miss out or is Kristen the best actress for the part? And who wins in the fashion stakes. Take a look at our gallery of the stars and their style and vote below to let us know.

Blonde beauties Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow are making quite a fashion statement during their promotional tour for Iron Man 2.

The two co-stars have been choosing the same colour outfits as well as the same designers throughout their photocalls.

For the LA Premier of the film, which took place at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, the actresses opted for Armani.

Scarlett looked lovely in a green organza frock while Gwyneth went for a metallic suit jacket and shorts complete with stunning shoe boots. But who looked better?

Fashion Face off: Robert Pattinson vs Daniel Radcliffe

By Andrea Petrou on April 27th, 2010

Yesterday we bought you a gallery of Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart after both ladies appeared on the Times Rich List.

We also turned it into a bit of a style competition asking you who you thought was the best dressed, and a huge number voted for Kristen here.

However, a Twilight and Harry Potter face off wouldn’t be complete without the two main male stars so we’ve decided to give you a little treat and put together a gallery of Robert Pattinson and Daniel Radcliffe, who both also made the Rich List.

View the gallery below and let us know who you think is the most stylish and (since it’s guys) sexy by voting below.

Emma Watson and Kristen Stewart make the Sunday Times Rich List but who has more style?

By Andrea Petrou on April 26th, 2010

Depending on how much you value wealth, yesterday’s annual Sunday Times Rich List could either come as a depressing blow or as a bit of fun. We’re going with the latter, especially as it means we can talk about our favourite celebs.

Emma Watson unsurprisingly made the richest young celebrities of Hollywood category coming in fifth for her 42 million dollars of earnings, which we can only imagine resulted from the Harry Potter films and Burberry modelling contracts. However it seems her fantasy film rival Kristen Stewart is catching up also making the same category for her 9 million dollars of earnings for the Twilight films.

To celebrate this, and add a little bit more rivalry we’ve decided to put together a style gallery of the two actresses. Take a look and let us know who wins your million dollar vote in the fashion stakes.

Daniel Radcliff who co-stars alongside Emma in the Harry Potter films topped this list with a huge 200 million dollar income, while Robert Pattinson was claimed to have earned 13 million dollars last year – we’ll be bringing you a rival gallery of these guys very soon too.

The Grand National is one of the biggest events of the year and not just for those who like to have a little flutter on the horses. It’s also a time when fashion wars begin and this year the style battle raged between WAGs Coleen Rooney and Alex Curran who jockeyed for their position of the event’s “best dressed”.

Alex wowed in a short beige dress by Balmain with signature square shulders while Colleen, who missed part of the race went for fashionable floaty with a pink chiffon Christian Louboutin frock and heels.

She told reporters: This event is the fashion event of the year for me.”

But who wore their frock best?

Battle of the lingerie models: Kelly Brook VS Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

By Andrea Petrou on April 7th, 2010

It’s been a month of lingerie model sign ups and drops. Two weeks ago Ultimo announced Kelly Brook as the face of it’s main lingerie range before dropping Peaches Geldof as the face of Miss Ultimo following claims of heroin use.

And today Monsoon has launched it’s first campaign shots staring Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
We think the Victoria’s Secret angel looks stunning, but is she a better model than Kelly and which campaign really stands out?

Take a look at the gallery below and then let us know by voting.

Fashion Election: Who is the most stylish MP’s wife?

By Andrea Petrou on March 23rd, 2010

Politician’s wives are becoming nearly as famous as their other halves across the fashion world. The dowdy outfits donned by these supportive female figures have been binned and replaced by must-have wardrobe labels such as Erdem (a favourite of Sarah Brown) Calvin Klein (as worn by Michelle Obama) and even Marks and Spencer (who can forget Samantha Cameron’s polka dot dress).

And as they become more and more popular, the media world is alight with news of Samantha Cameron’s pregnancy, the fashion spotlight on these women becomes bigger.

Rarely a day goes by without some comment about Michelle Obama’s latest outfit hitting the news wires and Sarah Brown has thrown herself into the fashion world, becoming an iconic figure of many high profile events. She jointly opened London Fashion Week this year (we were there to see it and we have to admit her speech was inspiring) appeared at the Elle Style awards and also held a reception for the Cosmopolitan Women Of The Year at Downing Street.

However, as in any industry there’s always the quiet dark horse, and it’s no different here with Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg‘s wife Miriam Gonzalez staying out of the fashion spotlight.

However, although she may not be fashion forward Mrs Clegg knows exactly how to dress. She’s appeared alongside the MP on various occasions in stylish frocks, and even donned the braces look for one event, which we think is slightly daring but works incredibly well.

With four stylish women who all do a great job of promoting fashion and keeping in with political values we’re a little bit torn as to who to award the fashion crown to.

So once again we’ve decided to leave it to you. View the gallery below and then vote in the ballot box to tell us who you think is the most stylish. And if there’s anything else you want to say, tell us by leaving your comments in the box below.

Asymmetric at the Olivier Awards: Kim Cattrall vs Rachel Weisz

By Andrea Petrou on March 22nd, 2010

Rachel Olivier.jpg

It was a night of fabulous fashion at the Olivier 2010 awards. But like any ceremony there’s always the two ladies that turn up in the same style. And for this event it was two of our best dressed.

Kim Cattrall gave a nod to the 80s in her short white frock complete with a satin ruffle along the top, while Best Actress winner Rachel Weisz opted for a grey maxi frock, which in comparrison to Kim’s was quite plain.

However, sometimes simple is better than decorative, so we want you to tell us who wore the asymmetric look better.

Vote below and let us know.

Friday Fashion Fracas: Lady Gaga VS Madonna

By Andrea Petrou on March 19th, 2010

It’s Friday! And not only does that mean the weekend, but also time for our Friday Fashion Fracas. We got a great response from last week’s Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston face off, with the majority of you voting for Jen’s style over Ange’s. But who will win this weeks Lady Gaga vs Madonna funky fashion fracas?

Yes, we know it may seem like an odd choice given Madge’s more sophisticated style nowadays. However she was a style icon in the 80s, and dare we say it, possibly the pioneer of raunch, leotards and leather.

So to get the fight going we’ll start with the 80s pop queen.

As we’ve already said, Madonna’s style now, does nothing to reflect her 80s outfits. Today she’ll be seen out in suits, leather jackets and jeans, which although are all lovely, aren’t very, well, exciting. However rewind 30 years and you’d hardly recognise the leather clad, skimpily dressed pop star.

Madge was one of the first to be risque with her stage and everyday outfits, and was rarely seen with more than a few clothes on. She introduced the Gaultier “conical cone” bra, which has slowly made its way back into our fashion radars as the underwear as outwear trend continues to go strong.

And although leotards are now more associated with Lady Gaga, Madge was wearing these, before the Queen of Quirkiness was even born, teaming them up with fishnets, studs and of course PVC. There have also been times in the past few years where Madge’s daring ulterior ego has come through. She wore a bright green headpiece with batwing skirt for an event in 2007, and her stage outfits are all still about bodysuits and stockings.

Worst outfit.

After a quiet couple of years, a newly-gothic Madonna decided to shock fans and the fashion police when she stepped out in a hideous yellow long satin frock in 1999 to help commemorate MTV‘s Top 100 Music videos.

What other’s say
“Club kid, raunchy sex flirt, geisha, school ma’am – what style hasn’t Madonna done? Always stylish, never boring, and above all, a true fashion feminist: Madonna, we salute you.” Handbag.com

Lady Gaga.

If we’re honest, we’re not actually sure where to begin here. Lady G is the epitome of 2000 outrageous fashion incorporating everything from PVC, leather studs and bralets into her “everyday style.” And she has a huge designer following with everyone from Armani, Viktor & Rolf and of course the late Alexander McQueen, queueing up to dress.

We’ve seen things we could never have even imagined from this singer, including coke cans in her hair for the Telephone video, a telephone on her head for her appearance on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and lobsters, for, well, just a night out. We could go on all day listing these.

Miss G is also no stranger to leotards, bearing her body on and off stage very successfully. But are her outfits an “updated” wackier version of Madge’s style or is she unique in what she wears?

Worst outfit.
We’re a little bit torn between the white 3 tiered Armani Prive cape the star wore to the Grammies and the hideous gothic PVC frock she donned to perform at the 2009 Royal Variety show and to meet the Queen.

What others say

“We’re ignored this lady for as long as possible, not because she didn’t interest us or anything, but because we weren’t sure what to make of her individual style.
She’s quirky to say the least, after appearing in rubber outfits and origami style dresses quite recently and she also seems to have a fetish for wearing some outrageous false eyelashes too.” Female First.

Our verdict.
Both singers have revolutionised style to a great extent, but we think this Friday’s winner has got to be Madonna. The original style icon paved the way for unique and outrageous outfits venturing into territory others had only dreamed about.

Who do you think wins the fashion fracas? View the gallery below and then vote to let us know.

Fashion Face-Off: American outfits, Lady Gaga VS Beyonce in Telephone Video

By Andrea Petrou on March 16th, 2010

Lady G and B.JPG

There’s enough fashion content in Beyonce’s and Lady Gaga‘s Telephone video to start an alternative fashion week. We’ve seen PVC, pirate hats, chains and head pieces galore as well as a range of undies and costumes.

However one scene that really sticks out is the one towards the end when Beyonce and Lady G take to the stage, or in this case Diner floor, in American style outfits. And we’ve decided to put the talented singers up against each other to see who carries it off the best.

Fashion Face-Off: Red dress rivals Eva Longoria Parker VS Sarah Harding at the Noble Gift Gala

By Andrea Petrou on March 15th, 2010

Face off sarahsmall.jpg

We bet Eva Longoria Parker thought she’d be the only lady in red when she hosted the Noble Gift Gala in a Ralph and Russo frock last night.

However she must have been slightly mortified when Sarah Harding turned up in a not so different off the shoulder frock in the same shade (hands up who’s had that happen at a party before).

We’re not too sure where Sarah’s frock is from – it’s still a bit too early for her management to be up – and we’re also not quite decided who carries off the red asymmetrical look best.

So we’ve decided to enlist your help here. Vote below and let us know who rocked it best in red last night.

Fashion Face- Off: Jennifer Aniston VS Selma Blair in the battle of the blazers

By Andrea Petrou on March 12th, 2010

faceoff.jpg

Blazers have made it through the winter season and continued to stay on-trend into spring with many a celebrity opting for one of these smart jackets to keep the cold at bay.

Two such clelbrities who have been seen sporting this trend are Jennifer Aniston who wore one of these over her Valentino dress at last nights UK premier of the Bounty Hunter and Selma Blair who opted for one of these at the Vanity Fair Oscar 2010 after party.

Now we’re not currently sure who designed either of the blazers the actresses wore, but we’re working on it to find out. If you know, please do shed some light for us by leaving your comments below.

And of course tell us who wore the blazer best by voting below. Was it Jen with her short version or Selma who opted for a longer cut and accessorised it with a scarf?
