We’re usually gushing about the latest celebrity red carpet dresses and must-have fashion trends, but sometimes we like to go to the opposite extreme.

And today is one of those days.

That’s right today is all about the trends to avoid.

We’ve all made mistakes in our time but there are just those trends that beat the rest and should never make their way onto the street- we’ll let you off if you’re wearing them at home with the lights off and the curtains drawn.

We’ve raved about all those gorgeous Christmas party dresses available on the highstreet this season, but what about those shoes?
Platforms, wedges and super high heels are walking up and down those highstreet shelves this season but one look that we think is a must-have for the Christmas season is glitter party heels.

It’s good news for our winter wardrobes and bad news for those credit cards as the cold weather finally sets in.

If you’ve been waiting for those blustery winds and rain to really get buying then now is your chance to start spending that cash.

And what better way to begin then with a pair of lace-up ankle boots. Hot on the Jean Paul Gaultier and Burberry catwalks, this trend has filtered into the highstreet in a range of styles from the super high heeled numbers to the more casual fold down cuff flats.

Christian Louboutin is like the holy grail of designer heels with his legendary red-bottomed soles, so we can’t wait to take a peek at the new book (currently it’s missing a title, but hopefully Christian will find the time to think one up).

The book is planned to be divided into six chapters, with the first showing the designer’s work earliest in his career, including pieces that created for Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent and the other chapters showing his inspirations, the international stores, and gushing contributions from some of his loveliest, most famous friends – including Dita Von Teese and Kristen Scott Thomas.

We hope it’s out soon – we want it to go riiiiiiight to the top of our Christmas list IMMEDIATELY.

Cheryl, everyone’s favourite Geordie lass, is collaborating with the fashion site StylistPick.com to create her new line of limited edition shoes – and it’ll go on sale in December. We’re usually sceptical about celebrities attempting fashion design but we might leave a space on our Christmas lists, just in case..

StylistPick’s creative officer Juliet Warkentin said: “We are thrilled to be working with Cheryl. Cheryl is the style icon and is amazingly warm, a quality that has made her the nation’s favourite. We believe that the launch will have a huge fashion impact; establishing fashion’s greatest influencer as a major force in fashion design and further democratising fashion.”

Lovely little Cheryl has remembered that her fans aren’t as rich as she is and made the collection affordable as well as glam, having overseen the entire design process herself “from concept to design and packaging”.

Girls, it’s time to start learning how to totter in our heels like Cheryl. ARE YOU READY?

Steve Madden, who holds the North American license for the brand, said on this new merging of minds: “We do a lot of business with Mary-Kate and Ashley. They’ve become friends.”

Surprisingly, the plucky enterprising twins actually approached Superga about the project, instead of the other way round. Ashley spoke out about their new footwear plans: “We were at a meeting with Steve, and we were wearing Supergas – two years later, it kind of fell into our lap. I really don’t think there’s anything like this brand. It’s a tennis-shoe brand with 100 years under its belt. Superga is really a luxurious brand. We are really hoping to bring it back to its roots.”

We absolutely can’t wait to see what Mary-Kate and Ashley come up with for their S/S designs..

Burberry Prorsum

Even though it’s only the end of August, it’s getting colder in the UK and all of my lazy-student instincts are telling me to go and get under the covers and sleep until winter is over.

I have to say, I hate the cold weather, with a passion – I am definitely a summer girl. So one of my little pick-me-ups when summer is over is to start planning new, fashionable ways to wrap up warm, and nothing can update or transform an outfit like a pair of great fashion tights or socks.

Marc Jacobs used a lot of polka dot hosiery in his Autumn/Winter collection, something that the high street has picked up on and copied. For a girlish Minnie Mouse look, team a pastel-coloured midi skirt with Asos’ nude polka-dotted ankle socks with a pair of high heels in the milder months – when it gets colder, go for a pair of polka-dot tights instead.

Another sexy hosiery trend is the sex-siren look that we saw on the fetish-inspired catwalk of Louis Vuitton, where it was all about peekaboo black underwear with tight corsetry, fur and terrifying heels. Asos have an amazing pair of 40s-style seamed stocking with tiny sparkle details on them for a pin-up feel. Just wear them with a leather skirt and a prim blouse and you’ve got a sizzling hot fashion look to go.

Or if you just want to keep your tootsies warm during the evenings, try a cute pair of statement socks – we absolutely adore Urban Outfitter’s lace mohair ankle socks, which are just so pretty and feminine.
