ShinyStyle loves: American site NASTYGAL.com for quirky unusual fashion

America Shirt

Show your love for one of the UK's best mates in this grungey stars and stripes shirt.

It always makes me happy when I discover a new  online store stocking designers I’ve never heard of before (I always feel mildly depressed and disappointed in myself when I limit my shopping options to Asos and Topshop), so it was a massive “Yay!” moment for me yesterday when I stumbled across NASTYGAL.com yesterday. Besides a steady stock of old favourites such as Cheap Monday and Lazy Oaf, there’s also a veritable array of new labels available to please any adventurous dresser and fashion-lover.

The big plus point for me is that the online store has an amazing shoe section which sells more Jeffrey Campbell shoes – one of my favourite shoe designers at the moment – than you could shake a stick at. There are so many on-trend shoes there perfect for referencing vintage and 1970s trends; plenty of chunky platforms, tan leather mixed with sizzling neons and pretty candy colours. It’s enough to make a shoe lover weep.

If you want a few interesting pieces for your summer/wardrobe I’d seriously recommend NastyGal for its’ cool selection of printed sundresses, grunge-inspired crop tops and hot-pants. Yes, it is based in California and you’ll have to pay extra for postage, but if you’ve got a little extra money to burn I think it’s worth it for the enviably cool American wardrobe you’ll be sporting.

Check out the gallery above for just some of our favourite pieces from NastyGal – I wanted to choose it all.

Jimmy Choo launching a capsule collection based on its most memorable styles.

By Andrea Petrou on June 16th, 2011

Jimmy Choo is launching a capsule collection based on its most memorable styles.

The shoe label – run by British executive Tamara Mellon – has collated a number of famous items including a feather sandal worn by Carrie Bradshaw in ‘Sex and the City’ and a peep-toe once worn by Natalie Portman for the set, which will also feature re-worked new versions of old classics.

Tamara said: “I wanted to create a modern capsule collection by memorable styles from our history that represented milestone moments for the brand and embody the DNA of our house style.

“These modern interpretations of classic designs represent the iconic glamour of Jimmy Choo today.”

The collection will be able to be seen in a book, Jimmy Choo XV, which will be available from February next year.

The footwear brand was recently sold to luxury goods group Labelux for $855 million, with Tamara saying she was “delighted” to be part of the business family.

She said: “I am immensely proud of all we have achieved over the last 15 years and delighted we are to be part of Labelux, a partner that I know shares our values and passion and [that] seeks ambitious growth in the luxury industry.

“This is wonderful news for the women who are, or who aspire to become, part of the Jimmy Choo lifestyle.”

Trend Alert: Top 5 espadrille wedges

By emilyborrett on May 30th, 2011

The gorgeously feminine sexed-up espadrilles on the catwalk at D&G

When it comes to compiling a holiday or a summer wardrobe, everyone knows the importance of a good pair of shoes. After all, the right apparel on your feet can either make or break an outfit. But sometimes it just seems too daunting to pull on stilettos or monster heels just to feel confident and stylish – and that’s why we’re thanking God for the espadrille wedge, one of this season’s hottest shoes thanks to designers D&G. Pretty, leg-lengthing and comfy, investing in a pair is going to be a serious thought this summer.

Luckily this is one particular trend that the high street is embracing wholeheartedly, so you don’t have to pay designer prices for a great pair of summer shoes. When we trawled the internet to look at what’s out there we found masses of great styles, but to keep things simple we’ve condensed things down into our top 5 to save you time (you lucky, lucky reader).

ShinyStyle’s star buy? Topshop’s floral cotton wedges, complete with a pretty print and ankle ties. Wear them to a summer BBQ or out to a party – no matter where you are, your feet will be beautifully adorned.

ShinyStyle review: Havaianas wellies launch at Selfridges

By Andrea Petrou on April 18th, 2011
Sponsored post

The rainy weather may be clearing and the summer on its way but that doesn’t mean we have to say goodbye to those wellies. In fact, with festival season just around the corner, these rubber boots are once again making a comeback.

Last Thursday we were given an introduction to the festival season, minus the mud, rain, and erm camping, when Havaianas took over the Ultra Lounge at Selfridges turning it into a festival fantasy land complete with hay bales, grass and of course the token celebrity, to celebrate the launch of their wellies.

That’s right our fave party poppets including Jameela Jamil and Daisy Lowe were out in force. Jameela Jamil looked hot in an orange halter top, while Daisy Lowe, who was also DJing at the event, went for a silky maxi dress. Laura Whitmore also looked hot in an assemble of black. When Daisy wasn’t on the decks we were treated to music from artist Jamie Woon as well as dance artists ‘Brazilian Fantasy’ who took to the floor and created dance frenzy toward the end of the night.

Add to that the free flow of caipirinha’s and other Brazilian cocktails by Sagatiba and foods including Tacos, Fajitas, Mini Fish n’Chips & Burgers and the company gave us that dream festival feel. Take note festival organisers we want this kind of treatment all summer.

However, the real stars of the night were of course the brand new wellies, which we fell in love with. Bright pinks with grey trimmings, purples, greys with pink trimmings and of course on-trend khaki green were all colours on display. Those feeling a little bit more daring also have a choice of a summer beach theme and for £45 a pair they really are a wardrobe must have.

See the gallery below for all the celebrity action and for some peeks of the boots.

Top 5 ballerina flats

By Andrea Petrou on March 17th, 2011

Licorice Gold Ballerina Flats

For the ultimate in shoe eye candy, you can't go wrong with these sparkle-dusted flats from Miss KG.

Thanks to the Black Swan phenomenon that’s had absolutely everyone talking, fashion is all about ballet right now. From costume-esque ornate ruffles and adornment at Marchesa and sweet, sugary colours at Stella McCartney, ballet has never been so hot. However, being a ballerina is really really hard (I’ve been doing ballet workouts at home and think I may never walk again), but dressing like one is really very easy and perfect for this spring.

The real, traditional dancer shoes are both painful (or so I’ve heard) and not practical for traipsing up and down the shops in, but ballet flats are. We all own a pair, but with fashion’s obsession with clogs, wedges and skyscraping heels recently we may not have been showing ours as much love as they deserve. After all, they’re our best friend after a long night out in stilettos- we wouldn’t be able to manage the walk of shame home without them. So we’ve searched the high street and found our top 5 favourite ballerina flats out at the moment, ranging from luxurious designer ones to basic failsafe ones. Check them out in the gallery above.

Dream fashion collaboration: Pierre Hardy For Gap

By Andrea Petrou on October 20th, 2010

By Emily Borrett.

Exciting news as Gap unveil the fruits of their most recent collaboration with design geniuse Pierre Hardy; one perfect pair of black suede and leather shoe boots. Well, sometimes simplicity is best. The shoes won’t hit stores in the US until the 28th of October at the slightly un-Gap price of $195, but we can forgive them – it is a beautiful shoe, after all.

Gap’s had a rough time of it these past few weeks; it’s taken a cutting verbal beating from the internet and worldwide fashion-lovers for its’ attempt to ditch their iconic logo for a newer, spiffier one (turns out that the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is an important lesson to learn in fashion), so this collaboration could be exactly what the brand needs to get back into their customers’ good books. And we’ll certainly be helping out – by fighting tooth and nail to get a pair when they become available to buy in the UK.

Loving Louboutins:Cheryl Cole, Victoria Beckham and Rihanna

By Andrea Petrou on September 1st, 2010

If  our fairy shoe mother was to give us £1000 we’d head straight to Christian Louboutin and buy a pair of his red soled shoes.

Part of us would want to cherish them, probably never wear them outdoors for fear that we would get the sky scraper heel caught in a drain or spill something nasty on the lovely leather or pretty patent. While the other part would want to take them everywhere we went just to show we had a pair.

However because celebrities can afford more than a pair they tend to do the latter strutting around in their red soled beauties and making us drawl.

Serial red sole flashers include Coleen Rooney who is hardly ever snapped without a pair on her lucky feet, Cheryl Cole who likes to flash these, and Rihanna.

And even Posh who in the past has had problems because of wearing skyscraper heels can’t keep herself away from these.

We’ve put together a gallery of  Louboutin loving celebs and their gorgeous shoes. We feel a touch of the green eyed monster coming on…

Get the look: Chloe Sevigny’s festival sandals

By laurenbravo on April 19th, 2010

chloesevignysocks.jpgWith festival season just around the corner (watch this space for our round-up of the most fashion-forward fests to be seen at this summer), it’s time to start planning those tent-friendly outfits.

Be outstanding in your field by looking to some of the most seasoned celebs – Pixie Lott, Agyness Deyn, the Geldof girls and Florence Welch all do festival chic expertly, with lots of hotpants, sundresses and vintage t-shirts flying that Brit fashion flag.

But bringing a catwalk edge to the meadows and moshpits isn’t always easy, which is why Chloe Sevigny should be applauded for her efforts. From leather shorts to Lanvin dresses and that visible bra look, the Big Love actress has never been afraid to push style boundaries. So when we saw this picture of her at last year’s Coachella wearing socks with flat sandals, we knew that sooner or later we would come round to the idea.

CAT-R304593-040709-rgb150.jpgAnd so we have. It may have taken a year, but with 2010′s Coachella currently in swing we thought we might give the look a go with these lookalike sandals from Cat Footwear. At £59.99 we’re guessing they’re a darn sight cheaper than Chloe’s pair, and they’re the perfect way to dress down summer’s prim and proper frocks.

Plus, they’re a far less sweaty alternative to wellies for covering festival terrain. We’re putting good money on the flat sandal being a hit with this year’s festival fashionistas, but whether it’s Glasto or your garden, take a tip from Chloe and go comfy. Oh, and if you attempt them with socks, send us a picture. We want evidence.

Selfridges to open fabulous footwear floor

By Andrea Petrou on April 15th, 2010

Selfridges.jpg

Ladies with a fetish for shoes will be as excited as we are to hear that Selfridges new shoe room will be bigger than the ground floor of the Tate Modern.

The retailer confirmed the news, which will have hundreds of us jumping around in shoe delight, this morning.

The fabulous footwear fashion space, which is the biggest project Selfridges has undertaken since 2003 will be open from September this year and will be designed by architect Jamie Forbert.

It will house exclusive designs from Givenchy, Chloe, Stella McCartney and Rodarte as well as giving shoppers six different salons and 10 brand boutiques.

Is it too early to start pitching our tents?

SS2010 Trend: Loafers

By Andrea Petrou on April 14th, 2010

Like them or loafe (sorry) them, loafers are making a huge come back this season.

They were hot at London Fashion Week catwalk shows back in September and a range of top designers have already begun launching these styles into the retail space.

One example is Miu Miu, which has launched a capsule shoe collection for Spring 2010.
The range will hit stores in May and has taken it’s inspiration from classic men’s shoes (hence the loafer).

Now we know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but we’ve decided to put together a gallery anyway for those who will be donning these this summer, and remember there’s sometimes nothing better than a flat shoe, especially when it’s in-trend.

Gallery: Celebrity Dr. Martens fans

By Andrea Petrou on March 30th, 2010

As we’ve already said, it’s the 50th Anniversary of punk and rock brand Dr. Martens on April 1st, and we’ve put together a gallery of on-trend DM boots to celebrate.

However, we didn’t think this was enough to pay tribute to such an iconic brand, which has shaped various states of fashion over the years including 80s punk and 90s grunge.

We’ve therefore put together a gallery of celebrities wearing these shoes with various outfits to give you some style inspiration.

Let us know who you think wears DMs best by leaving your comments in the box below.
