Could Gossip Girl soon be saying goodbye to Blake Lively? If the rumour mill is to be believed then sadly yes.
According to Marie Claire, the starlet who has influenced many a girl’s hairstyle and plays style siren Serena van der Woodsen in the series, is said to be considering leaving the show, to concentrate on making her name in film.
But it won’t be a nice end to Serena if Blake gets her way. She’s asked producers to kill off Serena.
A source told Marie Claire: “Execs aren’t convinced they’ll let her go but ideas have been thrown around. Suicide is one, though it’s likely to be an accident.” We hope it’s not a fatal fall caused by her heels.
“It was great at the beginning, but she’s started to get bored of her storylines and all the petty fights on set,” the source continued.
“Nearly all the cast members have had some kind of bust-up. Besides the fact that she gets to work with her boyfriend, Blake wants to leave.’”
There’s not much to say about Taylor Momsen that hasn’t already been said. Don’t get us wrong, we’re big fans of the Gossip Girl, turned rocker, and it seems we’re not alone.
This year she’s received attention from both Madonna and John Galliano and her band, Pretty Reckless is going from strength. She’s also had a modelling debut with New Look and although it seems she’s an old starlet, she’s not.
She’s just accomplished alot in her young life and she’s also created a fashion statement amongst her fans- the stockings and suspenders.
However, she wasn’t always the rock chick, complete with statement thick eyeliner and bright red lipstick. And up until 2008, her clothes were sensible and girly to match her Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey. We have a look at her changing faces.
Gossip Girl star and self-proclaimed “bad girrrl” Taylor Momsen is set to become the spokesperson for the “Material Girl” line, designed by Madonna and Madonna’s wonder-girl Lourdes. The eighties-inspired juniors’ collection is set to hit Macy’s in the U.S.A next month.
I’m surprised that Lourdes herself wasn’t chosen to front the brand; after all, Madonna is the original Material Girl (as Macy’s keeps reminding us) and Lourdes is the spitting image of her pop-icon mama. Taylor looks her usual surly, racoon-eyed self posing for the brand’s first ad campaign in a stripy miniskirt, black fur gilet and some very Desperately Seeking Susan-esque biker boots.
If you’re as curious as we are about Lourdes’ and Madonna’s new clothing range, Material Girl’s first EVER advertisement was released on the internet and can be viewed here.
The actress who plays Blair Waldorf in the US show has become the Global Ambassador for the American branch of Herbal Essences.
The star who is no stranger to the brand – her hairdresser is Charles Baker Strahan who is the US Celebrity Stylist for Herbal Essences – told WWD: “My mom used [Herbal Essences], the kind with the clear bottle with the flowers. Now it has a new look and everything is different. I started using it because Charles uses it.”
And it seems it’s all paid off.
We wonder if using the brand will make our hair as shiny and glossy as Leighton’s?
Gossip Girl fans should start saving their clothing allowance from now.
Why? Because Miss Selfridge has announced it will be creating a line of clothing inspired by Gossip Girl designer Eric Daman.
The collection will be based on the four female lead characters: Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Jenny Humphrey and Vanessa Abrams and will include will include a leopard print boho maxi dress, a ruffle front shift dress with a floral skirt and a nude and black lace tutu-style skirt.
Yasmin Yusuf, creative director of Miss Selfridge, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Warner Bros television series, Gossip Girl.
“The dresses we’ve created based on the characters fit perfectly with our spring/summer 2010 range. Our customers love the show and the styles of the girls, so the partnership is a perfect match.”
The range hits Miss Selfridge stores at the end of April and prices begin at £39.
Blake Lively has always been a kooky dresser in our books and we love her smart, yet laid back tailored style. However, it seems the Gossip Girl has got more fashion sides to her than we originally thought.
The actress has been transformed into a Grease starlet for Esquire magazine, where she poses in a leather jacket while running a comb through her wet look styled hair to give the original Grease T Bird boys a run for their money. She also pulls off that pants as outerwear look extremely well (take note Lady Gaga).
And we imagine her sultry swimwear shot will have many men rushing out to buy the latest copy of the magazine when it hits news stands next month.
And it seems British brands are also taking note of the Gossip Girl’s style. According to NY Magazine the star is set to join a long list of celebs who are now modelling for retailers, and could soon be fronting a New Look advertising campaign.
It may not be Louis Vuitton or Burberry but we think her edgy and sassy looks will work really well with this young retailers looks.
We’ll keep you posted of any developments in the New Year.
Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen is known for her trendy punky style, so it hardly came as a surprise when she was spotted wearing a range of statement tights.
The actress was snapped shooting scenes for the popular drama in a grey coat, thigh-high frock and navy ankle boots complete with a pair of patterned fishnets. She’s also been spotted out and about wearing, what we think is clearly her trademark tights trend.
We know many of you will be thinking about warmth rather than fashion on days like today, but we’ve put together a gallery of similar statement tights for those of you feeling a little bit braver. Double up the look with a pair of plain coloured tights underneath for a quirkier warmer look.
We mentioned a few weeks ago that Michelle Trachtenberg (most recently on our screens in Gossip Girl, but always remembered by me for playing Dawn in Buffy) was going to be collaborating with the jewellery and accessory brand Coach on a jewellery line. We’re not sure whether the line will be available in the UK, but we’re crossing our fingers, because we love the ‘Holiday Bee’ collection that’s available in the US now before her full line is launched.
But really, how could we not love something that’s been described as ‘Marie Antoinette meets Blondie’. You can lust after these edgy but cute designs now – we’re especially loving this bracelet that mixes hardware with the unexpected colour combination of sky blue and yellow Swarovski crystals. One thing we can’t decide is whether it would look better on Blair or Serena…
Oh dear… Leighton Meester appeared yesterday at a launch for the opening of a new American Eagle Outfitters store in New York, and her chosen outfit was, in our opinion, more than a bit misguided. ‘Interesting’ splodges on her leggings meant that the audience were more entranced by her legwear than the performance of tracks from her upcoming album. She was joined by fellow Gossip Girl cast members Michelle Trachtenberg (who is steadily building her fashion rep with a collaboration with Coach in the pipeline) and Jessica Szohr. Maybe Michelle’s friend had just said something about those leggings when this photo was taken.
We know Leighton wants to distance herself from her prim and proper alter-ego, Blair Waldorf, but this is taking it a bit far. And maybe she should have put a proper top on, too – does a waistcoat layered over a leather bandeau bra really count as a legitimate top-half of an outfit?
Check out Lady Gaga wearing a 30-foot long dress during her appearance in an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl. Unfortunately, except for the crazy dress and a bit of dry ice, there’s nothing else particularly unusual about the performance, despite Gaga’s usual antics (see-through lace bodysuit, anyone?).
She’s performing her latest single Bad Romance at a gig organised by Blair Waldorf. Blair clearly knows how to get on the good side of her fellow students at New York University – if Lady Gaga had played at my university union it probably would have caused a small riot.
The episode screens tonight in the US but we’ll have to wait for a few weeks to see it here.
Move over Jennifer Aniston and Victoria there’s a new hairstyle trend setter in town.
According to The Cut, Gossip Girl Blake Lively has taken the crown for this seasons must have locks, with hairstylists across America claiming her tresses are the new “Rachel.”
The Times has also said everyone wants her “extra long, ultra-shiny blond with a mussed-up tussle frolicking through the ends.”
We think it’s time to get the peroxide and curling tongs out.
Following the internet leak of the Anna Sui for Target lookbook last month, Target execs have been quick to backpedal on any suggestion that the range has been inspired by Gossip Girl.
“One of Target’s top executives got nervous about being that closely associated with the show, given the [debauchery] its characters get into,” a source told the New York Daily News.
Lots of bloggers are talking about Leighton Meester’s new single, Body Control today. The Gossip Girl starlet has been working on her début album of what she calls “sexual electro-pop,” and now a track believed to be on that album has found its way onto YouTube. It’s a little too early for me to make my mind up about it, but Leighton certainly has the pipes to carve a music career for herself. Don’t believe me? Then check out this audio clip of her singing her own version of Bette Davis Eyes. Gwyneth who?
Whispers are abound that the next famous face to join the Upper East Side is Hilary Duff.
EW reports that the tween sensation has signed onto star in Gossip Girl in this season’s fourth episode. She plays Olivia Burke, a movie star who yearns for a normal college experience so enrols at NYU where Blair (Leighton Meester), Dan (Penn Badgley) are accepted. Her character ends up sharing a dorm room with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), which will no doubt lead to some sort of drama.
The episode is scheduled to air on October 5. Duff’s own TV series, Barely Legal, was passed up by producers. She also recently starred in Ghost Whisperer and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
