Cole Haan unveils spring 09 Maria Sharapova campaign

By Andrea Thatcher on February 10th, 2009

Maria Sharipova Cole Haan.jpg

Who better to launch a sporting collection than Maria Sharapova? I’m sure that’s what Cole Haan figured when they cast her as the star of their spring 2009 campaign.

The ads were shot in Malibu by Martyn Thompson, and extends the relationship between Cole Haan and Nike, the maker of their comfort shoe technology.

“The campaign marks the first time Cole Haan has collaborated with a Nike athlete to serve as the face of a new collection,” notes Cole Haan Chief Marketing Officer Michael Capiraso. “We are able to leverage her interest in fashion and sport, while connecting with our consumer in a new and unique way.”

For a pic of a Cole Haan/Nike sport shoe from the collection, keep reading.

Outfit Pick: Goldsign Misfit super stretchy jeans and Givenchy-esque chain top

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on February 2nd, 2009

Outfit pick.jpg

The affects of Givenchy’s fall 08 chain dresses are still being felt, so you can find something like this Forever 21 chain trim tunic, $19.80, everywhere. It’s perfect for pairing with Goldsign’s super-stretchy Misfit slim leg jeans, $218. Thanks to 35% four-way stretch, the denim is likened to the feel of leggings. And what to wear with your dark wash skinny jeans but a tough-chic bootie. We chose Steve Madden’s Slasssh bootie, $199.95, even though we’re generally opposed to open-toed boots in winter. But, what better way to show off the new Chanel nail colors we’re all coveting? Top it all off with this Jimmy Choo Eva leather clutch, $1,170 to remind everyone you’ve got class.

Bargain Pick of the Week: Le Sportsac Kevyn bag

By Andrea Thatcher on January 29th, 2009

LeSportsac Kevyn Bag.jpg

This little Le Sportsac Kevyn bag would make a great makeup bag for only $25. All Le Sportsac bags are a great fabric for carrying around spillables, so I often look to them for the perfect cosmetics carrier. And I love the black rose print.

Five styles in six different prints were featured on Home Shopping Network yesterday and worth taking a look at, nothing over $130!

Designer Pick of the Week: Be&D releases updated Garbo bag for 5th anniversary

By Andrea Thatcher on January 27th, 2009

Be&D Garbo bag.jpg

It’s hard to believe it’s been five years since Be&D released their first Garbo bag, but when your bags are on Gossip Girl and your name is used in pop culture parody, I guess it means you’re a regular on the scene.

For their 5th anniversary, the brand has updated their iconic Garbo, $1,390, as part of a capsule collection. The buckles have been removed and the bag is bedazzled with spiked studs, and whip stitched handles add extra detail.

Keep checking back for more of the Be&D spring 09 line!

Marc Jacobs exposes more than just the latest It bag

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on December 16th, 2008

marcjacobs_newitbag.jpg

You might still be reeling from the visual of a nude Karl Lagerfeld (even if it was just an illustration), but at least you will hopefully be a bit more prepared for the sight of Mr Marc Jacobs casually sprawled on a pink furry throw exposing more than just the newest ‘It’ bag – check out them tan lines!

The photo spread is set to appear in the January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, to coincide with the release of the revisited Stephen Sprouse graffiti designs for Louis Vuitton. You can read more about the limited edition collection over at our accessories sister site The Bag Lady.

Sasha Pivovarova joins Kate Moss for Longchamp spring/summer ’09

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on December 16th, 2008

longchamp_katemoss_sasha_01.jpg

Kate Moss is no longer a solo flyer for Longchamp. Last season she was thrown together with the very handsome Gaspard Ulliel, and now she has been joined by Sasha Pivovarova for the brand’s spring/summer ’09 campaign. Colourfully captured by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the duo appear to mirror each other with matching blonde choppy hair, sharp cheekbones, and perfect pouts. You’d hardly guess there was an 11-year gap in their ages, would you?

Check out another picture after the jump.

Ten fashionable gifts under $100

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on December 11th, 2008

10 under $100 1.jpg

We wrapped up $20 gifts under $200 and are on to the $50-$100 price range. The first thing we looked for? A fab coat for gifting to your favorite girl. We like this Gap plaid belted coat, on sale for $94.99, because the plaid can be a little holiday, a little preppy or a little indie depending on the giftee’s style. It’s a little something different for the girl who usually sticks to pea coats.

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 26th, 2008

Yay or Nay Rihanna for Gucci.jpg

We know we’ve already picked on Rihanna this week, but now we want you to pick apart her handbag collection for Gucci and tell us what you think.

If they’re going for the teen demographic then they’re clearly on track, as well as anyone who wants their handbag to scream designed by a celebrity!

There’s an overly sincere video after the jump if you want to see more close up details of the bags (and Rihanna and her buff arms).

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 19th, 2008

Nicole Kidman Australia Prada luggage.jpgClick image to enlarge.

Usually Louis Vuitton has luxe luggage product placement down – especially in period movies.

But it looks like Prada won this round with a fab set of custom-made luggage for Nicole Kidman’s character Sarah in Australia.

The set includes trunks, suitcases, hat boxes and a picnic set crafted of the brand’s signature pergamena leather.

Designer Pick of the Week: Tod’s Took Shopping Media bag

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 18th, 2008

DPOTW Tod's handbag.jpg

We’re always on the lookout for stylish bags to take to work. To us, this means it has to hold a notebook and camera.

A little more special than the average leather tote, Tod’s Took Shopping Media bag, $1,750, has the style we look for in such a bag. Zippers and pockets look modern in new proportions on this slim

Our only question mark is the shoulder straps. No dimensions are given and we’re wondering if they’d slip over bulky winter coats or not. Or is it cute enough not to care? You decide.

Jessica Biel to do bags for William Rast

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 14th, 2008

Jessica Biel copy.jpg

In “my boyfriend owns the label” news, Jessica Biel is apparently going to design handbags for a limited edition line for William Rast.

They’ll probably sell just from being associated with Justin Timberlake. But it’s an odd move considering Biel isn’t exactly at the height of her hot girl fame, and has never been very fashionable.

Apparently she has already started sketching designs for a limited edition collection. Star magazine says an insider claims “Jessica is casual when it comes to clothes, but she loves bags.”
