Noon Solar launches its new Willow Tote with built-in solar power

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 11th, 2008

willow-brown.jpg

All buckled up, this shibori-dyed organic hemp and cotton tote looks like a normal handbag. But a hidden solar panel and included cell phone and Ipod adapter prove that this bag is something different.

The Willow Tote, $332, uses solar panels to charge phones and music players while it is worn.

This would obviously be best for city dwellers who get plenty of sun while jetting from place to place. I feel like I would have to leave mine on my porch in order for it to get a good charge as running to the car or office probably wouldn’t cut it.

Preview pictures of Botkier for Target

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 9th, 2008

Botkier for target.jpg

Images of Botkier’s handbag line for Target have hit the Web in advance of the July 20 launch.

“[It's] a mix of luxury and utility with a downtown edge,” Monica Botkier told New York Magazine. “It is for the chic, modern woman — it features rich textures and luxe metallics, combining my signature use of hardware as the jewelry of a handbag while still keeping a focus on functionality.”

The bags, which range from pochettes to totes, will all have Botkier staples like plenty of interior pockets and a long key chain.

Dooney & Bourke free and clear in Louis Vuitton trademark dispute

By Andrea Thatcher on June 4th, 2008

DooneyBourke.jpg

A judge ruled in favor of Dooney & Bourke in the trademark dispute involving their “It Bag” monogram, shown, and the Louis Vuitton Monograme Multicolore collection.

The judge implied it was less a case of copyright infringement as the fact that Vuitton didn’t like Dooney & Bourke cashing in on a trend LV started.

What do you think? While hard core fashion fans would never mistake a $200 Dooney & Bourke at Macy’s with a Louis Vuitton, do you think an average consumer might?

Lauren Conrad purse pics.jpg

Looks like Lauren Conrad really loves her CC Skye Lucy bag, $795.

We’re not sure if it can be entirely credited to the bag, but these are definitely some of the more fashionable and attractive paparazzi photos we’ve seen of the star of ‘The Hills.’

It looks like the Lucy is a good style and size for everyday use and running around town, as LC is seen doing.

Hamptonites eagerly expect Mulberry pop-up shop

By Andrea Thatcher on May 21st, 2008

Mulberry.jpg

Mulberry chose a great season to open up a pop-up shop in the Hamptons, with a collection full of pops of color that the preppy set loves.

The fuschia of the Leigh tote, shown, is just one of the bright hues of the spring line full of greens, reds, and yellows.

The East Hampton shop will open on Saturday just in time for Memorial Day revellers.

“We had tremendous success with our stand-alone stores in New York and we thought this was a great opportunity to bring the brand to the client,” Joe Judge, vice president of Mulberry USA, told WWD.

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 8th, 2008

Karl handbags.jpg

If you want a piece of Karl Lagerfeld, one of his new handbags to debut in October is a great way to get it.

“We wanted to create details that are very identifiable with the designer,” Abe Chehebar, chairman and chief executive officer of the Accessory Network Group which collaborated with Lagerfeld, told WWD. “Karl has seen [the collection], and loves it.”

The details in question include silver zippers that resemble cravats, woven Ks, and tote handles in the shape of Karl’s signature shades.

Designer to watch: Roman Savell handbags

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 30th, 2008

Roman Savell copy.jpg

A broken zipper and overworn handles and my old black tote is shot. Good thing I recently discovered Roman Savell handbags, and their Bravo bag , $395, in particular (shown in black).

Not only do patent leather pocket and tassle details make the nylon version of the Bravo bag, $225, more stylish than, say, that other black nylon bag with a big-name label, but you won’t believe how much we fit inside it and how well it’s organized. (See pictures after the jump.)

For more about the Bravo bag and the Soho clutch, $195, shown in red above, keep reading.
