The latest news to come out of the super secret Target designer lab is that of a handbag line by Botkier.
The limited edition handbag collection will be called Botkier for Target and is the fifth handbag collection to be released.
Designer Monica Botkier launched her handbag label five years ago when she couldn’t find a design that suited her. Her brand now sells in some of the biggest department stores in the world, including Barneys New York, Saks Fifth Avenue and Harvey Nichols.
For the first time Botkier’s latest spring ’08 collection (pictured left) has branched out into shoes, belts and other small leather goods which we reported on here.
Now we know you didn’t think that we here at ShinyStyle were the only brilliant Shiny writers on the planet! Here’s what a bunch of our Shiny cohorts have been writing about lately:
If you browse around the Botkier site this week, you might notice a few changes.
Not only a new cleaner layout, but all the company’s new product categories – like footwear, belts, small leather goods and jewelry.
The shopping selection is much improved, with items ranging from $125 to $795.
There’s also a major sale going on right now, like the Harley tote that’s down to $290 from $725.

We loved everything about the Christian Dior fashion show in Paris yesterday, but what we were most excited about were the accessories. Okay, maybe accessories always get us excited, but these colors and textures particularly popped.

This Dolce & Gabbana framed leather handbag is technically part of their spring offerings, but I love it for fall. The soft brown sort of modernizes the gray tones we’ve been seeing and the black trim makes it a neutral fit for any outfit. Though, at $2,175 I doubt anyone who could afford it would be caught dead in a spring ’08 bag next fall. More like spring ’09.
One thing that makes me dry heave? The thought of people wearing it with the matching shoes!
Zara from our U.K. team of writers recently reviewed Mojo handbags, and found some really cool bags to show off. We thought you might like to see them too!
Oscar de la Renta has announced that he’ll be adding handbags to his lower priced O Oscar line available at department stores like Macys.
This comes after a few evening shoes were added to the collection this year, so it makes sense that the line would explore a full line of accessories like this.
“Handbags are an important accessory for the modern woman who is constantly on the go, adding both style and function to her look,” de la Renta told WWD.
We’ve been rather underwhelmed by the O Oscar clothing line, so lets hope the bags resemble those on the Oscar de la Renta fall runway, at left. Judging by the wholesale prices, the bags will probably retail from around $150 up.
Handbag lovers know that clutches are like the holy grail of purses, so it’s no wonder they get so much attention on the red carpet at the Oscars. Except for Amy Adams adorable lillipution purse, most were very geometric.
Piperlime, which has become a favorite online shoe source for many, is currently building quite a handbag collection. If you’re looking for something in a mid-range department store like Macy’s or Nordstrom and can’t find it, Piperlime is always a good bet.
This Orla Kiely classic shoulder bag, $170, seems to be following a counter trend to all the brights of spring. We’ve seen these more subdued colored, graphic prints at J.Crew as well, and they’re very tempting for the warmer months.
Everything in the collection is under $130 and some pieces sold out in the first five minutes on air, so if you’re into the accessories inspired by Iman’s world travels you should act fast.
Looks like the two home shopping giants are going head to head. While Heidi Klum is clearly the higher-profile model right now, with her Project Runway hosting gig, she did run into that little trouble with Van Cleef and Arpels about her signature clover design. Let’s see if Iman can stay out of the hot seat.
Keris over at TheBagLady drew our attention to this Marc Jacobs bag-on-bag combo, $2,100. What do we think, yay or nay? I believe this raises a larger fashion philosophical question – does the fact that it’s Marc Jacobs ensure that it’s a yay? After his spring collection, some people are changing their tunes on that issue. What about you? Little purse sewed onto a big purse – yay or nay?
It was no surprise that it was all about platforms and bright colors at Betsey Johnson’s Fall 2008 fashion show last week. What’s actually kind of surprising is how well they’ll go with your fall wardrobe! Of course heels have been getting higher and higher, but all the pinks and blues on Betsey’s catwalk are actually on trend instead of going against them. Or maybe everyone else has just finally come around to Betsey’s rainbow point of view. Either way, bright platforms with colored tights will keep you in fashion this fall.
This is another one of those bargain picks where the term bargain is relative. This Prada fabric bag is on sale for about half off at $468. The chain handle and details on this bag make it look more expensive than it is, and we like that it’s a brown evening bag instead of a black one. It’s something you might not already have in your closet and a little more distinctive.
