Designers Lutz and Patmos care about consumers’ money woes

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on February 29th, 2008

Lutz%20and%20Patmos.jpg

While most designers are saying to heck with recession and continueing to allow their prices to climb, Tina Lutz and Marcia Patmos seem to actually care about their customers.

“When we met, we were so poor, but we still wanted to be stylish,” Lutz told WWD. “We have lowered Lutz & Patmos’ prices by 30 percent since we started the company. But we wanted to do something more.”

That something more is a new contemporary line of eco-friendly knitwear to be sold exclusively at Barney’s under the label Leroy and Perry. The collection is named after two streets in the West Village where the design duo first struggled for success.

The pair teamed with Barney’s Green to create three sweaters made from organic cotton or yarn from recycled T-shirts and bamboo. Each style will retail for under $300.

The Lutz and Patmos ARP cape cardigan above is $485.

Designer Pick of the Week: Dolce & Gabbana framed leather handbag

By Andrea Thatcher on February 26th, 2008

designer%20POTW.jpg

This Dolce & Gabbana framed leather handbag is technically part of their spring offerings, but I love it for fall. The soft brown sort of modernizes the gray tones we’ve been seeing and the black trim makes it a neutral fit for any outfit. Though, at $2,175 I doubt anyone who could afford it would be caught dead in a spring ’08 bag next fall. More like spring ’09.

One thing that makes me dry heave? The thought of people wearing it with the matching shoes!

Designer Pick of the Week: Christian Louboutin satin slingback

By Andrea Thatcher on February 19th, 2008

DPOTW%20Louboutin.jpg

When searching for a designer pick of the week, Bergdorf Goodman’s selection of spring Christian Louboutins seemed like a great place to look.

And it was. We discovered these satin slingbacks, $795, in the perfect shade of bright green for spring. Then think how well they’d double for Christmas finery next winter with a little black dress!

Assymetry is big, and bows are bigger, so this stylish shoe is sure to please trendsetters while also appealing to the more classic consumer.

If that price tag is a little rich for your blood, be sure to check in every Thursday for our Bargain Pick of the Week selections.

“Just Try it On” book launch at Bendel’s

By Andrea Thatcher on January 16th, 2008

Redstone%5B1%5D.JPG

A launch party in NYC should have four things: cocktails, cupcakes, at least one person sporting a Rihanna/Katie Holmes bob and a D-list celeb. Last night, this and more all went down at the “Gossip Girl”-like department store Henri Bendel for fashion writer Susan Redstone’s new style book, “Just Try it On!”

Redstone’s adorable 12-month guide gives smart and affordable shopping and fashion tips. Each chapter is dedicated to a different tip and month, from January’s “Your Fashion Emergency Kit” to December’s “Holiday Style and Gift Giving.”

When asked to spill a tip, Redstone picked from November and said, “avoid visible panty lines by taking Polaroids of yourself before a big red carpet event.”

Put on by PR powerhouse Lizzie Grubman, the event was well attended including Lizzie herself, along with one sure shocker (but appropriately titled for the event) from VH1’s “I Love New York,” Tailor Made.

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Gucci Joy Boston Bag

By Andrea Thatcher on January 16th, 2008

Gucci%20joy%20bag.jpg

When we were perusing the new spring/summer Gucci arrivals at Saks Fifth Avenue, we really liked this Gucci Joy Boston bag in the thumbnail and so clicked on it. But when we got up close, we weren’t so sure. Is the floral embroidery that looks more like applique in some parts, too much or just enough? Or does the basic black and white palette make up for it? If you had the $1,950 lying around, would you buy this bag, yay or nay?

Jimmy Choo Convertible Patent Clutch

By Andrea Thatcher on January 11th, 2008

Jimmy%20choo%20convertible%20clutch.jpg

Jimmy Choo seems to have updated their Romona leather ring bags to incorporate the oversized clutch trend for spring. This convertible patent clutch, $1,396, uses the same weaving technique with leather strips through rings, in a new, modern silhouette. As I think that all clutches should have a convertible option, I like the chain strap that can be tucked inside. I wonder if the verticle belt can be unstrapped for a different look?

Spy new Fendi arrivals at Saks Fifth Avenue

By Andrea Thatcher on January 2nd, 2008

Fendi%20new%20arrivals%202.jpg

New Fendi arrivals are now online at Saks Fifth Avenue and we’ve chosen a couple that stand out from the pack for very different reasons. The Fendi Multicolor Spy Bag, $1,280, on the left will at once compliment and help tone down spring’s vividly colored dresses. The dark chocolate, milk chocolate and caramel lamb leathers will pick up the brights without competing. The woven handle and contrast piping add a little something extra to this spy bag. If you’re planning to stick to more of a neutral palette and prefer something a bit more classic, this Chef Leather Frame Bag, $1,360, is probably more up your alley. We see this in Palm Beach while the multicolored spy is in Miami, if you know what we mean.

If you like that, discover all things Fendi at TheBagLady.tv.

By Andrea Thatcher on December 18th, 2007

Marc%20guitar%20necklace.jpg

Okay, now you’re really cutting it close. But there is still thismuch time to order presents online and receive them by Christmas, plus lots of sites are encouraging you procrastinators by offering you free shipping. Here’s a few.

Bergdorf Goodman is offering free rush shipping on any order until noon tomorrow with the code RUSHBG. Our pick? This Marc Jacobs guitar watch necklace for only $150. We want it.

You have until noon Friday for Christmas delivery and free 2-day expedited shipping at CoutureCandy. You also get free gift wrapping and a free seasonal CD.

While it’s not free, RedEnvelope will upgrade your shipping to 2-business days for the price of regular ground shipping on orders over $50. The offer is good with the code ESAVEL18 until 6 p.m. on Thursday.

It’s the last day for standard shipping at Bebe where they’re pushing the “sexiest party tops ever” for only $39. You’d have to buy quite a few to get free shipping – orders have to be over $150 – but maybe that won’t be a problem.

Neiman Marcus still has free gift wrap and is now offering free 2-day shipping with the code NMHURRY, but it all ends tonight!

More deals on delivery after the jump.

Christian Louboutin Resort Collection shoes

By Andrea Thatcher on December 7th, 2007

Christian%20Louboutin%20resort.jpg

We know that this pink packs quite a pop, but if we were lounging at a resort somewhere we like to picture ourselves in something bright and fun. These satin peep toes are $550 and also come in yellow. If you’re looking for something more real-world appropriate there are plenty of options in Bergdorf Goodman’s selection of Louboutin resort shoes.

Not to be outdone, Saks Fifth Avenue has an exclusive video on Louboutin’s spring collection.

Gossip Girls love Henri Bendel

By Andrea Thatcher on December 7th, 2007

Henri%20Bendel.jpg

It looks like all the shopping at Bendel’s and name dropping of Henri himself are really just a coincidence on Gossip Girl. Though that may change since the store’s Web site and consumer hotline have both seen increased traffic after airings of the fashionable teen drama. Shoppers seem eager to find out if the scenes from the show were really filmed in store (they were) and to get their hands on fashions inspired by their favorite characters. They might even catch a glimpse of Serena or Jenny since the actresses who play them, Blake Lively and Taylor Momsen have been known to shop the store.

Check out Bergdorf’s window displays online

By Andrea Thatcher on November 30th, 2007

Bergdorf%20windows.jpg

If you’re not in New York, or any city with department store window displays for that matter, you can get into the holiday shopping spirit by perusing Bergdorf Goodman’s holiday window displays online. The theme this year is the elemental world with windows focused on earth, air, fire, wind, and water. We love light and water and would love to know what light is wearing. Guess we can head on over to Bergdorf’s to find out.

Get Blair Waldorf’s Gossip Girl style with this Marc Jacobs dress

By Andrea Thatcher on November 30th, 2007

Blair%27s%20Marc%20Jacobs%20Dress.jpg

Turkey day may be over, but there’s still plenty of occasions left to wear Blair Waldorf’s Thanksgiving Day dress from this week’s Gossip Girl. Blair passed on turkey for pie anyway, right? While Blair’s maid suggested she wear this MARC by Marc Jacobs metallic dress “with pearls” we think it’s much more easily worn in an ecclectic, downtown, “I always wear Marc Jacobs dresses to the grocery store” way. It’s sold out right now, but I’ll bet with Blair’s blessing they’ll get more in.

Yay or Nay Wednesday: Earmuffs

By Andrea Thatcher on November 28th, 2007

Burberry%20earmuffs.jpg

These just in: bordeaux quilted patent leather ear muffs from Burberry. Now there’s no question, if you’re going to wear ear muffs, these are the most fabulous ones to sport – but would you wear ear muffs? If you live somewhere like Georgia and don’t really have a winter, you might not even be able to contemplate such an accessory, but in colder climes it’s often tempting to wrap your entire head in a wool scarf just to get the mail. So, would you wear ear muffs?

Top Five: Shoes in the Net-a-Porter Sale

By Andrea Thatcher on November 28th, 2007

Top%205%20Shoes.jpg

Net-a-Porter has a sale going on with up to 60% off, which actually makes some of their designer duds affordable to those of us who can’t shop the runway. Plus, their new $12 ground shipping makes it easier, too. Whenever we hear of a Net-a-Porter sale, or pretty much any sale really, the first place we look is at the shoes. So here’s our top five picks from the sale.

Alexander%20McQueen%20pump.jpg

We’ve been known to already have the holiday music station playing in our car, so we’re irresistibly drawn to anything that plays into our festive mood like these cherry red Alexander McQueen round-toe pumps. A hidden platform and seam down the back give these an old Hollywood feel. The $540 shoes are on sale for $324.

Juicy Couture velour bag

By Andrea Thatcher on November 27th, 2007

Juicy%20bag.jpg

There’s a fine line between casual and sloppy, and this bag mich just fall upon it. First Juicy Couture created the velour tracksuit and now the bag? I am not sure this is a necessary progression and it’s one that’s sure to leave a sour taste in the mouthes of fashionista’s across the world. If I think really hard then maybe I can see the benefits of a velour tracksuit, I guess it’s comfortable at least. But do handbags require comfort? If you happen to think the idea is fab, then check out Neiman Marcus where the bag is available in pink and cocoa for $123.
