Net-a-Porter’s Runway by Designer a new way to shop

By Andrea Thatcher on November 9th, 2007

Burberry%20net%20a%20porter.jpg

Net-a-Porter has a new feature called Runway by Designer that’s basically like being able to click and shop on Style.com. You pick a designer’s runway, like Burberry Prorsum above, and Net-a-Porter gives you pictures of the looks they have for sale. Not only can you just click to get the shoes or outfit you want, but you also get a nice little rundown on the designer’s trends of the season. For instance you can read about Christopher Bailey’s tough-chic collection and advice to accessories with hard-edged extras when you buy the patent leather coat, $5,225, at far left and register for an update when the sandals come in stock. If you’ve got the budget, this could revolutionize how you shop the runway.

Barney’s Babble reveals secrets about the man behind the Manolos

By Andrea Thatcher on November 7th, 2007

Manolo%20Barneys.jpg

Simon Doonan’s Barney’s Babble is getting better and better. And he knows how to grab readers with a headline: “Manolo Blahnik: Shocking Secrets Revealed.” Well, the secrets may not be totally shocking, but they’re definitely entertaining. Among them is a story of how Manolo got his name from a canary with a deformed beak, a legend that Manolo takes every shoe he designs to the family priest for blessing – and that when he skipped this ritual all the heels fell off the unblessed shoe, and a beauty secret involving figs. We might have to take some of Simon’s chatter with a grain of salt, but you’ll definitely feel like you know Manolo better after reading the column.

Seven For All Mankind extending their line beyond denim

By Andrea Thatcher on October 23rd, 2007

1337_blue_white.jpg

Denim brand Seven For All Mankind is pushing beyond the blue jeans market to conquer shoes, purses, and sportswear. Seven, along with other luxury denim brands like Citizens of Humanity and True Religion, heralded in an age where spending $200 on a pair of jeans wasn’t just accepted, it was expected. But being known for only one product isn’t very lucrative, and so when VF Corp, the world’s largest apparel company, acquired the brand in a $775 million acquisition, they decided to expand. Seven purses, shoes, and clothing are currently being sold in high-end department stores and boutiques and kids and men’s non-denim lines are in the works as well. A Seven flagship is set to open in Hollywood in November. More pictures after the jump!

Kristen Bell, Marcia Cross, and Stacy Keibler at the Elie Tahari Boutique Opening In Saks Fifth Avenue

By Andrea Thatcher on October 17th, 2007

Elie%20Tahari.jpg

Last night a few stars came out in Beverly Hills for the opening of the Elie Tahari boutique in Saks Fifth AvenueKristen Bell, Marcia Cross, and Stacy Keibler all walked the red carpet. We think we might have actually preferred Kristen Bell in something a little more fun and flirty, a cute dress perhaps? The high-necked, long top seemed to overwhelm her small frame. Stacy Keibler seemed a bit overly demure and covered-up as well – is there a fall chill in sunny California or what? Marcia Cross, however, was spot on in a sparkly, dressy number. Continue reading for some looks similar to those worn at the event.

More Moss: Simon Doonan dishes on Kate Moss’s Topshop office manner

By Andrea Thatcher on October 15th, 2007

Kate%20Moss%20topshop.jpg In his latest edition of Barneys Babble, Simon Doonan teases us with the knowledge of whether Kate Moss has a corner office or lowly cubicle at the Topshop head office in London. He never gives us the dirt on that question, but says Kate, shown here at the Kate Moss for Topshop Barneys New York launch, is very popular with Topshop employees (gee, go figure) and that she tries on every design for her line herself. Apparently she comes in weekly for meetings and goes on coffee runs for workers, which is nice since they’re probably chained to their desks working on her stuff while she can flit in and out as she pleases.

American customers paying more for Kate Moss Top Shop than UK customers

By Andrea Thatcher on October 12th, 2007

katemoss.jpg
The Daily Mail, a British newspaper, has reported that Barneys is marking up the price of items in Kate Moss’s Topshop collection. Flare jeans that cost £50 ($100) at Topshop cost $158 at Barneys. The Daily Mail predicts American shoppers may begin flying over to the UK for better shopping deals if this trend continues, the way UK shoppers have been hoping over to our side of the pond for years because clothing has traditionally cost less for them in America since the pound is currently stronger than the dollar.

Maggy London dress seen on Cynthia Nixon as Miranda in the Sex and the City Movie

By Andrea Thatcher on October 10th, 2007

Maggy%20london%20dress.jpg

This Maggy London print silk twill shift dress was recently seen on Cynthia Nixon while she was filming the Sex and the City movie, and is now available at Nordstrom for $148. That’s not bad for a piece that you can wear long before the movie hits theaters, putting yourself way ahead of Miranda. She wore the dress with a gold metallic belt at her natural waist, and big gold metallic earrings. And keep in mind that if they’re in the Sex and the City movie, metallic accessories are sure to stay around and are a good investment!

Kate Moss for Topshop new arrivals at Barney’s Co-Op

By Andrea Thatcher on October 1st, 2007

Kate%20Moss%20new%20arrivals.jpg
We get our Topshop fix where we can here in the US, not to mention our Kate Moss fix. Luckily, Barney’s Co-Op supplies both with new Kate Moss for Topshop arrivals in a monochromatic black-white-gray color palette. I’m not quite as excited about these pieces as the original collection, I prefer a bit more color in my wardrobe, but Kate Moss acolytes will surely be pleased. The cropped leather biker jacket, $375, is clearly a standout piece. The scarf top, $55, and deep V dress, $160 are chic staples for any model wannabe.

Sweater dresses for fall from Celine to Design History

By Andrea Thatcher on September 28th, 2007

76099776.jpg
The sweater dress is a great transitional piece moving from fall into winter. Paired with opaque tights and heels, the look can be described best as sexy-warm. Body-hugging while still being covered up, the sweater dress is good for work or a night out. The gray dress above, worn by a model at the Hamptons Magazine hosted party in Southampton, is from Celine’s fall/winter 2007 collection. For a cheaper, but just as stylish sweater-dress, continue reading.
