Guest blogger and bra expert Liz “The Bra Lady” Smith tells us how to look sexy in anything

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on February 6th, 2009

Liz Smith headshot 1 small.JPG

So have you figured out what you are going to wear for Valentines Day yet? Before you run to your favorite lingerie department and buy the first red bra and thong set you see … heed these words of wisdom … try before you buy.

Most of us are wearing the wrong size bra; 8 out of 10 of us, to be exact. Getting fit for a bra is oh-so-easy and will make you look and feel fabulous. Whether it is for under your Valentine’s Day outfit or possibly is your entire Valentine’s Day outfit, you will look your best if the girls are lifted and supported.

If your bra looks like a necklace–you know, when your bra rides up your back and the girls head south in front (which is just so wrong)–it will make you look old and tired instead of the gorgeous goddess that you really are.

Outfit Pick: Goldsign Misfit super stretchy jeans and Givenchy-esque chain top

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on February 2nd, 2009

Outfit pick.jpg

The affects of Givenchy’s fall 08 chain dresses are still being felt, so you can find something like this Forever 21 chain trim tunic, $19.80, everywhere. It’s perfect for pairing with Goldsign’s super-stretchy Misfit slim leg jeans, $218. Thanks to 35% four-way stretch, the denim is likened to the feel of leggings. And what to wear with your dark wash skinny jeans but a tough-chic bootie. We chose Steve Madden’s Slasssh bootie, $199.95, even though we’re generally opposed to open-toed boots in winter. But, what better way to show off the new Chanel nail colors we’re all coveting? Top it all off with this Jimmy Choo Eva leather clutch, $1,170 to remind everyone you’ve got class.

Victoria’s Secret seven ways dress – it better come with lessons

By Andrea Thatcher on February 12th, 2008

seven%20ways%20dress%20collage.jpg

This Victoria’s Secret 7-in-1 curvy jersey dress could be the answer to many a “nothing to wear!” dilemma. If you can figure out how to fashion it, that is. There are instructions on the site, but kind of like all the articles telling us we could wear the same sarong every day of our vacation without anyone knowing, it might be easier read than done. It might take an evening at home practicing before you can master the seven different styles, but in great bright colors for spring, this dress might be worth the trouble. The best thing is that while it’s always sexy, you can make it appropriate for work, for a date, or the beach. That’s versatile.

“Just Try it On” book launch at Bendel’s

By Andrea Thatcher on January 16th, 2008

Redstone%5B1%5D.JPG

A launch party in NYC should have four things: cocktails, cupcakes, at least one person sporting a Rihanna/Katie Holmes bob and a D-list celeb. Last night, this and more all went down at the “Gossip Girl”-like department store Henri Bendel for fashion writer Susan Redstone’s new style book, “Just Try it On!”

Redstone’s adorable 12-month guide gives smart and affordable shopping and fashion tips. Each chapter is dedicated to a different tip and month, from January’s “Your Fashion Emergency Kit” to December’s “Holiday Style and Gift Giving.”

When asked to spill a tip, Redstone picked from November and said, “avoid visible panty lines by taking Polaroids of yourself before a big red carpet event.”

Put on by PR powerhouse Lizzie Grubman, the event was well attended including Lizzie herself, along with one sure shocker (but appropriately titled for the event) from VH1’s “I Love New York,” Tailor Made.
