Aristocrat denim – 100% organic, 100% stylish

By Andrea Thatcher on May 29th, 2008

Aristocrat.jpg

Launched in spring 2007, Aristocrat denim is really heating up. Not just jeans, the denim line includes quite a few cute dresses as well.

The fabrics, dyes and the dye process are all 100% eco-friendly. Founder Bak (one name, like Cher, we presume) developed a revolutionary “green wash” process uses purified water and dry processes so all Aristocrat denim is chemical-free.

55DSL clothing for rock stars

By Andrea Thatcher on May 21st, 2008

55dsl.jpg

We recently became acquainted with the clothing line 55DSL and think you should too!

The Italian brand helped sponsor the very exclusive BPM Smurf House party at Coachella recently, where Joel Madden, Steve Aoki, Datarock, Taryn Manning, Tommie Sunshine and J’Davey were all fans.

The fashionable music festival is a perfect fit for the brand, since Warped Tour was our first thought on where to wear the T-shirts we received. To see them, keep reading.

Designer Pick of the Week: Vivienne Westwood Anglomania blouse

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 20th, 2008

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania blouse.jpg

It can be hard to dress seasonally-appropriate on a cold, rainy day like today in the Northeast. It can be way easier to throw on a winter sweater that has yet to be put away than to choose a nice spring outfit that will also keep you warm.

That’s why Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania petite floral blouse, $590, is perfect! It has the color we crave this time of year, with an on-trend-for-spring floral print.

This would look really cool with jeans and a jacket, but would dress up for work just as well with a pencil skirt.

How would you wear this blouse?

Donna Karan International to introduce DKNYC line this summer

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 13th, 2008

DKNYC.jpg

Donna Karan International is ready to add a new label to its stable of brands: DKNYC, a better sportswear label with price points similar to the current DKNY jeans range.

The new line will be similar in concept to the City DKNY line launched in 2001 but shuttered in 2005. Why try again? The company is doing well, sales are up, and it seems like a better time in the market.

“DKNY, in its original concept, was able to touch many people,” Donna Karan told WWD. “That’s what New York City is — complicated, multidimensional … As I see it, the C stands for circa. It’s Circa DKNY, from its original core concept, when it was really intended for a much wider level. The current success of DKNY opened up the doors to be able to expand.”

The new collection of Gap Design Editions white shirts are now available in store and online, but they’re selling out quickly. If you missed out last time, don’t dawdle. Priced at $78 for a shirt, $88 for a dress, they’ll go extra quick.

Our favorite is the low tie-neck top by Phillip Lim, not pictured. The other designers include Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian, Three AsFour and this year jewelry designer Philip Crangi.

Gwyneth Paltrow wore Proenza Schouler to super-secret nuptials of Beyonce and Jay-Z

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 11th, 2008

Gwyneth dress copy.jpg

In friendships you might not expect news, Gwyneth Paltrow showed her love for Beyonce and Jay-Z when she attended the stars’ super-secret vows on April 4.

What did she wear? A Fall 2008 sample from the Proenza Schouler collection, shown at left. She carried a small clutch and donned ankle-strap heels with the bone silk gazar minidress.

“It was arranged last minute,” a rep for the designer told People magazine. The rep maintains that Proenza Schouler had no idea that the dress was for Beyonce’s wedding.

Shoewawa rounds up Chloe lookalikes a la Kate Bosworth

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 10th, 2008

From our shoe blog, bosworth_chloe.jpgShoewawa

Kate Bosworth is the little fashion maven these days, isn’t she? Arguably, this isn’t exactly her most fabulous fashion moment, but wearing these heels from Chloé’s Spring Summer ’08 collection, you can’t fault her for trying to do something different. (Oh, and check out her Chloé Saskia bag!)

The shoes might be a little out-there (and not to mention, beyond budget) for some, so here’s some ‘inspired-by’ alternatives to achieve a similar look.

Product details after the jump.

By Andrea Thatcher on April 9th, 2008

Loubinette pouch bag.jpg

This may look like a handbag for a very chic Barbie doll, but at $1,195 you won’t find this Loubinette pouch bag at Toys ‘R’ Us. It’s just in at Net-a-Porter.

The cutesy-cutesy look of this hot pink satin bag only makes it more covetable for the girlie girl. But what about Louboutin’s Passmule Zeppa wedges in hot pink? Keep reading.

Trend appeal: Alexander Wang sheer dress

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on April 8th, 2008

Alexander Wang dress.jpg

We love this Alexander Wang sheer dress and slip combo, $435, for flaunting the sheer trend in the most sophisticated style possible.

This cobalt creation is crafted of cotton and organza for an ethereal look and feel, over a nude slip.

The deep V and keyhole are offset by a more covered up bottom and slouchy style.
