It was so exciting for us to catch up with Zara Rabinowicz from Shiny’s U.K. office this week. Zara writes for ShinyShiny and is the editor of KissandMakeup, the British sister site to ShinyGloss. Zara was in town to check out Vivienne Tam’s new laptop and also showed us the new iGoogle designer pages. Love you Zara!
While we’ve been covering the shows, Kiss and Makeup‘s Zara has been backstage at Vivienne Tam getting some tips from the hair and makeup team and also meeting the designer herself. In the video above Tam talks about her love of New York, and what she does to prepare for the shows.
Yet more celebs were taking up valuable spots on the front row yesterday…but I suppose it could be worse. I’d rather have stylish celebs to gawk at than children (and there are always children). Narciso’s sometime muse Claire Danes was flanked by glam new mom Jessica Alba and actress Julianna Margulies. Meanwhile Kelly Osbourne was front row at Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Max Azria pulled in Natasha Bedingfield, Zoe Saldana, Tinsley Mortimer, Eva Amurri and Michelle Trachtenberg.
How do you steal the limelight from Marc Jacobs? How about rocking up with a new ‘do, bringing Jennifer Lopez (in RM Roland Mouret) along for the ride? Ahhh, Posh, how we love you! Also on the circuit were ‘it’ couple Mark and Daisy looking too cool for school, Gossip Girl’s Michelle at Jill Stuart and Mary-Kate and Nicole cosying up for some front row photos at Proenza Schouler. With all these celebs attending the shows it’s a wonder there are seats left for anyone who actually works in fashion…
Fashion Week’s in full swing and there’s only one question on everyone’s lips…where the hell is Sophia Bush? Last season’s NY Fashion Week darling hasn’t really been around the tents this year (neither has her biggest contender to the title, Mandy Moore) but there have still been plenty of big names gracing the front row. Jennifer Lopez took to the tents for Diane Von Furstenberg, sporting some of the biggest shades since Nicole Richie discovered Dior. Meanwhile, TV’s glam blondes Blake Lively and Becky Newton were there to show some support for Miss Sixty. Another noticeable absentee was Jessica Biel…surely she should have been showing her man some support at William Rast?
I happened to be in the same elevator with Andre Leon Talley and a bevy of models after the Tuleh show this evening (more on that later). Talley took notice of the sweet bouquets the girls were carrying.
“Oh he gave you girls flowers because you put on such a pretty show? That man has class. That’s beautiful.”
I also managed to tell Talley I looked forward to his column, and he was very gracious.
Since half the fun of fashion week is seeing what everyone else is wearing off the runway, we thought we’d give you a little glimpse at what our ShinyStyle team is sporting. Doesn’t Sharon look chic? She’ll be covering quite a few shows this week, like Reem Acra and Carmen Marc Valvo, and obviously doing it in style. Did you catch her review of Geren Ford?
Each year a different fashion display is placed around the Bryant Park fountain inside the entrance to the tents. It gives standing room guests something to look at while they wait to get in the show, when they’re done reading The Daily.
It seems like only yesterday that I was jumping on a plane to Australia to escape looking forward to February’s Fashion Weeks. Now here we are, another season on, waiting impatiently for the first Spring / Summer 2009 shows to hit the catwalk as the September shows rear their ugly heads.
Maybe I’m getting more and more cynical as the years go by, maybe it’s the lack of real ‘Summer’ in the UK that’s left me hating the idea of looking at more Summer clothing for weeks on end, but something is stopping me from getting too excited about what I might see in the coming weeks…
Sarah Conley is one of the ladies over at Coutorture who makes fashion week a little less hectic for us bloggers in the Coutorture network. And now in addition to helping us find pictures we need and access to some great events, she’ll be doing a series of videos from fashion week entitled “On the Plus Side.”
The mini documentary will explore the fashion week events from the experience of a fuller-figured woman. This first video just explains the concept and mentions the sponsors of the project, but keep checking back to StyleIt throughout the week for more.
The tents are up in New York’s Bryant Park and you know what that means – Spring 09 Fashion week is about to begin! The official start is Friday, but we have some fun events we’re going to Thursday night that we can’t wait to tell you about. Lorick, the Gossip Girl cast, need we say more?
We just wanted to let you know we’re hard at work preparing to bring you the best coverage from backstage, the runway, the parties and more! Okay, and we’re devoting significant time to planning our outfits as well! Can you blame us?
