John Galliano Spring-Summer 2012

What’s in a name… John Galliano may have fallen from grace in the fashion industry – first he was fired by Dior then his own-name house– so it goes without saying that we were curious about the John Galliano SS12 catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week.

At the reins of Dior and John Galliano is now the British designer Bill Gaytten, Galliano’s right hand man for 23 years, who sent models down the runway in Mary Poppins hats, flimsy see-though dresses (knickers on display anyone?), floppy corsages and mermaid plaits. Nothing much new there then, but a beautiful collection nonetheless.

Modelling for Dior

Miranda Kerr was in hot demand at this season’s Paris Fashion Week with a range of designers hiring the Victoria Secrets model to show off their designs.

The wife of Orlando Bloom was spotted on the Chanel catwalk in a nautical blue staple tweed jacket and skimpy skirt, while it was an ethereal white frock at Stella McCartney.

Over on the Viktor and Rolf catwalk the model donned a burlesque style satin blue and black frock before changing into a black skirt and pink crop top, while Dior sent her down the catwalk in a long black and nude ruffled number.

It was an underwater theme for Chanel at Paris Fashion Week. Models marched down the under the sea clad catwalk to live music by Florence and the Machines, in textured fabrics, which gave a subtle nod to coral, while more obvious wet look and sheer fabrics gave a feel of the sea.

The iconic black shift frock was transformed for Summer 2012 thanks to pearls, which continued into the collection appearing as the pull on the zipper of cardigans on belts around cocktail dresses and as buttons on boucle jackets.

Handbags were also touched with the underwater theme fashioned into shell shapes while the structured jackets and skirts were given a floaty transformation thanks to sheer creamy floaty fabrics. We heart this collection.

Alexa Chung attends the Stella McCartney Ready-to-Wear Spring/Summer 2012 show

We heart Paris Fashion Week here at ShinyStyle. Not only for the amazing designers – Christian Dior, Givenchy and Comme des Garcons to name a few – but also for the sheer amount of celebrities who come out to play.
Alexa Chung graced the Paris streets for the Stella McCartney SS 2012 collection in a stunning denim tunic. She was joined by Salma Hayek who went for a hot pink detailed mini dress.

Over at YSL Lou Doillon sported the masculine look in a suit for the designer’s after party, while Kylie Minogue went for a red and white striped batwing top teamed up with skinny black jeans, for the event. They were joined by Emily Blunt who looked hot in a purple satin blouse teamed up with a gold skirt.

Over at Celine, Dita Von Teese went for monochrome and sheer fabrics to support the designer.

It was 60s disco meets the 80s masculine look at Givenchy yesterday as designer Ricardo Tisci showed off his Spring/Summer 2012 collection for the fashion house.

Light pastel colours fashioned into structured frills gave a fresh update to the classic statement Givenchy shirts, while satin was prominent in  super skinny trews.

There was also a nod to the military look thanks to a few smatterings of khaki style shorts teamed with skinny belts, while sheer fabrics made an appearance on cheeky short dresses as well as blouses.

However, Tisci also added something new to this collection with a range of fun, sequined number which gave a nod to the Night Fever disco era, in the shape of dresses with skinny belts as well as little black sparkly numbers.

Appreciating the fashions were Naomi Campbell, Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Hudson who all turned up to the after party in LBD.

Hermes Spring/Summer 2012

The 70s and 80s were married yesterday as Hermes displayed its Spring/Summer 2012 collection at Paris Fashion Week. The fashion house, which always has us lusting after its handbags, put on a display based on the lady traveller of the past.

Harem style trousers and oversized jackets marched down the catwalk complemented by simple yet striking tunic dresses.

And there was a huge nod to the sophisticated 70s thanks to the introduction of wide culottes as well as head scarves.

Other styles we can expect to filter down into the highstreet next year also include frocks, which give a nod to the Grecian style as well as pleats, which were huge in the collection. Colour wise we’re going to see blacks, burnt oranges, rusts and blues and frankly we can’t wait. Now all we need is a Hermes handbag to match…

Thierry Mugler spring-summer 2012

Thierry Mugler’s spring/summer 2012 collection is a display of sleek modernism and inspired creativity that Lady Gaga would be proud of. Perhaps it then doesn’t come as a surprise that creative director of Thierry Mugler, Nicola Formichetti is the co-mastermind behind Lady Gaga’s wardrobe…

The collection showed angular designs, creative layering – deconstructed springs to mind – and sexy cut-outs what walked down the runway at Gymnase Japy is a modern day Femme Fatale. If its wearable is questionable, but it is certainly watchable.

Gareth Pugh Spring-Summer 2012

Not sure if British designer Gareth Pugh is showing us his innermost secrets or is hoping to design the clothes for the new Blade Runner film, but his Spring/Summer Ready-To-Wear 2012 collection shows us he certainly has a strange idea of how women – and some men – should dress next year.

At Paris Fashion Week, Pugh showed the audience and fashionistas worldwide that he definitely has the shock factor. Pugh’s latest collection includes black and white leather cage dresses with knee-high boots – kinky some would say, plastic ‘teardrop’ masks encasing the models’ heads, and muzzles… Yes, muzzles.

I’m not absolutely convinced that the everyday woman will opt for these futuristic/bondage outfits, but I can certainly see Lady Gaga going crazy over the collection. Come to think of it, perhaps Gaga is the inspiration behind the designs?

Paris Fashion Week - Guy Laroche

The Guy Laroche catwalk show offered designs and colours that you wouldn’t necessarily link to spring or summer. Franco-Swedish designer Marcel Marongiu’s spring/summer 2012 collection was overflowing with dark colours injected with a few bright sparks, with the models walking the runway fitted yet floaty dresses in black, grey and green, military coats and a couple of sun yellow items. A very different mood to some of the shows seen in London.
