Catwalk Queen’s Kimberley Foster writes:

Who is she kidding? After Valentino’s final show, we all knew that Natalia Vodianova’s semi-retirement from the catwalk wouldn’t last forever, but we didn’t realise it would be quite this soon. The Russian beauty opened the Balenciaga spring/summer ’09 show this week in Paris. Click here to see more photos from the show.

The most VI of the VIPs in Paris for fashion week were at the Petit Palais du Musée des Beaux Arts last night for the opening of Patrick Demarchelier’s exhibit Images et Mode au Petit Palais.

Demarchelier poses above with Anna Wintour, and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Hallyday (think the French Elvis). For pics of Dita von Teese, Milla Jovovich and Jessica Stam, keep reading.

If you can’t be in the City of Light for Paris Fashion Week, a day dream tour of the city with Jean Paul Gualtier is the next best thing.

Lucky New York Times’ writer Henry Alford experienced what stateside fashion fans can only fantasize about. He visited everywhere from the Moulin Rouge to the Musee Grevin under Gaultier’s instructions, and ate at the Eiffle Tower with the legend himself.

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2009: Balmain

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on September 30th, 2008

Barbie-doll proportions and a lot of glitter and glitz added a bit of whimsy to the very polished, stylish look of Balmain’s spring 2009 collection. If Max Azria wants to see a new way to do a bandage dress, this is where he should look. There were lots of legs – in micro minis as well as cutaway front dresses that would have been more surprsing if Balmain had shown before Nina Ricci. Olivier Theyskens did them a bit bigger and better, but Balmain’s had a glamorous aesthetic of their own.

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2009: Christian Dior

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on September 30th, 2008

Catwalk Queen’s Kimberley Foster writes…

Things turned a little wild at the Christian Dior show, with John Galliano offering up an African feast with his Spring 2009 collection. To the sound of drums, models stormed down the catwalk wearing high plaited buns in a less dramatic style than we have usually come to expect from the designer. Yes, it seems that the economy now cancels out the costume-y. ‘Tribal chic’ was the name of the game and so it was in a flurry of reds, pinks and oranges that Galliano’s vision was based. He sent out chiffon dresses cinched in at the waist, jackets in reptile skins, animal print, and long evening gowns embellished with embroideries and jewels.

As a Galliano fan, I can’t help but miss his old flamboyant ways, but know better than to expect even he to disregard the non-buying climate. It will surely appeal to his A-list front row clientèle which included Dita von Teese, Lily Allen and Eva Green.
