As I mentioned yesterday, rat-face Spencer Pratt has admitted to lying to Lauren Conrad in order to get her to come to his wedding to Heidi Montag. Nevertheless, as we all know L.C. did attend the wedding, filmed (and likely paid for) by MTV for Sunday’s episode of The Hills. Here is a sneak peek of what went on inside the church for the couple’s big day. My favourite part has to be the appalled look on L.C.’s face when her old rival and new replacementKirsten Cavallari unexpectedly shows up. I honestly couldn’t have scripted it better myself. We hope by now you’ve managed to have a peek at all the outfits from this year’s MET Costume Institute Gala and either gasp in appreciation and awe or shock and horror at the get-ups on show. You’ve probably also had time to let the image sink in of a turban as a fashion-forward accessory that you’re most likely going to see more of now that Kate Moss has worn one and let the dust settle from the Kiefer Sutherland-Jack McColloughhead-butting incident. But we are still curious about what goes on inside this famous party and thankfully, the above video from Vogue gives us some answers to our questions. Namely who hangs out with who, what was Kiefer like at the beginning of the night and why oh why was Anne Hathaway‘s hair so darned big?
What do you get when you put Naomi Campbell, Lauren Hutton, Karlie Kloss, Iman, Paulina Porizkova, Caroline Trentini and Hilary Rhoda together at a table? A very interesting discussion about the state of the modeling world today and a little insight into what it’s like to be a living, walking clothes hanger…
Admit it – you love to check out what other people are wearing, whether it be your friends or the lady next to you in the bank queue or your favourite pop star in their latest music video. Street style blogs have been creeping up in the popularity stakes for a few years now, to the point where people are making a living out of them. And the stars of these sites are of course the ones who get all the insider information (and access to all the best clothes) – the fashion journos, PRs and so on.
Carine Roitfeld and Emmanuelle Alt of Paris Vogue are style icons to countless fashionistas as are other editors and stylists and thanks to street style bloggers and fashion paparazzi their stars just keep on rising. Check out this Style.com video to see what it’s like for them to walk the gauntlet of fashion paps in order to attend the shows.
Seen the latest Vogue cover which has been graced by all your favourite models? If you can’t get enough of Raquel, Natalia, Jourdan, Lara and co., then you’ll be pleased to get a bit of extra screen time with them, thanks to Vogue‘s peekie behind-the-scenes at the May Model Issue. You can see everyone primping, preening and posing and then get a severe case of the jels when they rave about how much they love their job! You get paid to wear pretty clothes – we geddit, alright?!
In a bid to rescue his reputation, Oscar de la Renta made a rare appearance on The View Monday to discuss *those* Michelle Obama comments. The designer has received backlash over his criticisms of Michelle Obama’s wardrobe, including wearing a cardigan to meet the Queen. “She’s entitled to wear anything she wants to. I may have chosen my words badly, and I regret it,” he said.
When Barbara Walters asked if he was jealous, he replied by saying: “Of course I’m jealous. Listen, to dress the First Lady is a tremendous privilege. I’m jealous if I’m not dressing every single woman.” Click play on video above to watch.
Definitely a Shiny Fashion favourite, über-cool Londonite Daisy Lowe made the move to New York at the beginning of the year to help her on her way to a successful modelling career stateside (looks like it worked). And now she’s opened up the doors to her apartment to Modelinia (and in turn, us) so we can peek at her shoe collection, her superhero-plastered bedroom walls and her boyfriend’s cute pick-me-up pressies!
New Zealand’s formerly fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo accapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo (that’d be Flight of the Conchords in case you didn’t know), have been back on US tellies for a while now – what do you mean, you haven’t been watching!? If you actually haven’t, you’ve missed a doozy just recently when the boys started banging on about fashion, and more specifically, its ‘dangers’.
What we love (aside from the obvious incredible 80s fashion) is the tribute to Visage’s Fade to Grey vid, complete with paparazzi trying to capture Bret and Jermaine while their manager, Murray, tries to block the flashes. The poses are what really had us though! Now that is fashion. Watch and see for yourself…
Yesterday, designers Jason Wu and Isabel Toledo – two folks who have become household names overnight – appeared on the Today show to talk Michelle Obama. At one end of the spectrum we have Wu, who at 26-year-old designed the ivory one-shoulder gown that the new First Lady wore at the inaugural ball. While on the other hand, we have 48-year-old Cuban-born Toledo, who has 25 years of experience behind her, and whose lemongrass sparkly suit was also selected by Mrs Obama to wear to the swearing-in ceremony. Hear what their reactions were to seeing their creations be part of history, by clicking the video above.
We know it can get confusing that while we at ShinyStyle and ShinyGloss are American and write from America, our company and the majority of our sister sites are based in the U.K. and written by a variety of Aussies, Brits, and more. Sometimes we share content and a sweater gets referred to as a jumper, and while we’ve gotten to the point where it makes us giggle, it could confuse our readers. So here is a little primer on what’s what across the pond and what it means to us.
Seeming to continue the momentum of last season’s floral body-reshaping dresses, Nicholas Ghesquiere is changing the women’s silhouettes again at Balenciaga. It seems that the Balenciaga women no longer needs definition in their body, as it will be reshaped any way with stiffly-voluminous pieces, case in point, his shiny scarlett egg-shaped dress. It’s so rigid in a oddly tailored way, it puts last season’s pieces to shame.
If we disliked the Jennifer Connelly dresses, you can imagine how we feel about this latest developement.
Zara from our U.K. team of writers recently reviewed Mojo handbags, and found some really cool bags to show off. We thought you might like to see them too!
It was a case of the hot model shuffle at the Marios Schwab show yesterday, where extra-long column dresses forced models to hobble along the catwalk in a very steady stream. His obsession with the female form saw hemlines fall to the ankles, giving body-con a whole new meaning… these dresses were skinny, skin tight! While it might have been enough to send the everyday woman screaming into the back shadows, for its technique, it was definitely worth the early morning queue-up in the freezing cold.
