GOD BLESS CHANNEL 5. Just when you thought that TV would never, ever get good again, they went and bought Big Brother off Channel 4. Now we can watch celebrities showering together again.
It’s an interesting mix of stars for Celebrity Big Brother ’11 (though of course we use the word ‘star’ extremely loosely). The Only Way is Essex star Amy Childs went into the house looking very dolled up in a sparkling corset dress with killer heels, as did everyone’s favourite messed-up actress Tara Reid, who wobbled into the BB house in a very skimpy black silk and lace dress.
Also leaving little to the imagination was the ex Baywatch star Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff, who struggled to pull her body-con black and gold dress over her bum as she climbed the stairs to the front door of the BB house. We were pleasantly surprised, however, by politician’s wife Sally Bercow, who looked quite classy and elegant in a royal blue off-the-shoulder number.
We were happy to see our Kerry Katona looking healthy and happy in a dramatic black silk dress with a long train – and we loved her quiff hairdo, which is really on-trend right now. Good luck with your first task, Kezza!
When it came to the men, some of them came good and some of them let us down. The male model Bobby Sabel looked like a French film star in a slouchy navy overcoat and fawn-coloured chinos, while the Corrie actor Lucien Laviscount looked very smart in a salmon-coloured tailored jacket with a crisp shirt and slacks.
The Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty, who’s our favourite by far (I like the way he says “womaaaaan”) scrubbed up in a pale blazer with an open shirt and his best jeans. He looked a little bit like the Hoff, actually.
Jedward looked absolutely ridiculous, as usual, in tiger-striped tuxedos (why? Why?). And as for Darryn Lyons, or “Mr Paparazzi” as he likes to be known… well, words fail me. I know that he’d probably made his gold “CELEBRITY IS MONEY” jacket specially for his BB entrance, but I really wish he hadn’t.
Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last few months, you will know Glee. You might hate it. You might love it. You might be a bonafide, t-shirt-wearing, Streisand-singing Gleek. But wherever your feelings lie, it’s pretty hard to ignore the impact that the implausibly hot high schoolers have had on the world of entertainment.
While the all-singing, all-dancing troup are about as edgy as a satsuma, they do deliver in spades something that the fashion world loves: camp. With cheerleader outfits, Madonna tributes, knee socks, pussy bows and bling among the treasures in their dressing up box, we nominate New Directions as this month’s fashion inspiration.
So whether you fancy channelling Rachel’s preppy, Miss Pillsbury’s prim or Mercedes’ megawatt diva, these looks will get you through sectionals in style…
Check out Lindsay Lohan’s latest cover for Vogue España‘s August issue. The actress has surprised many, myself included, when she decided to don a Marilyn Monroe platinum wig again to channel the screen icon for the glossy shoot. After her previous disaster, when she recreated Monroe’s “The Last Sitting” for NY Magazine, you can’t help but wonder why?
No doubt she’ll cop even more flack for this latest effort, although having now seen the finished results I’m not quite so dark on her. For example, the image (above, right) where she is dressed in Thierry Mugler is actually quite fierce. Almost Gaga-inspired.
Fans of The City may be surprised to learn that one of the show’s cast is already pulling out. Erin Lucas has confirmed that she will not be returning for the second season.
“I decided to do something different,” she told NY Mag. “I have a project in the mix, but I want to get into more hosting. That’s really what I love. It was just hard. It was a chapter in my life and it was nothing but positive. I’m glad I did it, but on to the next thing”.
She also admitted that she hadn’t spoken to Whitney Port for months.
“We were [close], but things change,” she said. “There was a falling out”.
Oh dear! Erin also said that there were no hard feelings, and if she ever saw Whitney again she would give her a big hug.
At the end of last season, The City also lost Jay after Whitney decided to break up with him to focus on her career and being a single gal about town. At this rate, there won’t be anyone left.
It is full-steam ahead with season six for Project Runway. Despite moving to a whole new network, the designer reality TV show is back for another round with Heidi Klum at the helm. Mentor Tim Gunn, and judges Nina Garcia, and Michael Kors are also back, as well as whole host of celebrity guest judges.
Whispers are abound that the next famous face to join the Upper East Side is Hilary Duff.
EW reports that the tween sensation has signed onto star in Gossip Girl in this season’s fourth episode. She plays Olivia Burke, a movie star who yearns for a normal college experience so enrols at NYU where Blair (Leighton Meester), Dan (Penn Badgley) are accepted. Her character ends up sharing a dorm room with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), which will no doubt lead to some sort of drama.
The episode is scheduled to air on October 5. Duff’s own TV series, Barely Legal, was passed up by producers. She also recently starred in Ghost Whisperer and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Our friends in Canada will be familiar with Coco Rocha’s TV reporting work for E! The model was all over Fashion Week filming a special Coco Rocha Fashion Attack! which was given a special screening in New York this week. The show includes interviews with designers and funny moments with her Elite agent Micki Schneider. Check out the clip above of Coco taking camera tips from another model-turned-TV-star, Heidi Klum.
Is Dancing with the Stars about to get an injection of style?
The rumor mill claims that Vera Wang has signed on to star in the next season of TV’s celebrity dance show, due to premiere September 21.
As we all know, Vera trained as a figure skater before embarking on a long career in fashion. She even competed in the 1968 US National Championships and tried out for the Olympics in the same year. Later, she designed outfits for Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan.
I wonder if we’ll get to see some of her moves on the dance floor. In any case, she is bound to have the best costumes in the competition.
As I mentioned yesterday, rat-face Spencer Pratt has admitted to lying to Lauren Conrad in order to get her to come to his wedding to Heidi Montag. Nevertheless, as we all know L.C. did attend the wedding, filmed (and likely paid for) by MTV for Sunday’s episode of The Hills. Here is a sneak peek of what went on inside the church for the couple’s big day. My favourite part has to be the appalled look on L.C.’s face when her old rival and new replacementKirsten Cavallari unexpectedly shows up. I honestly couldn’t have scripted it better myself. Execs at Lifetime have responded to the concerns of many Project Runway fans by making few changes to the reality show from its original home at Bravo. After nine months of legal battles and other setbacks, the first images of season six have hit the web, showing the same set, logo, panel, etc. The only difference seems to be the location, it is shot in L.A. instead of New York.
”I was shocked. It was déjà vu. I was looking forward to different scenery, and everything was the same!” Heidi Klum said, after hoping that a new network would equal a show overhaul. I guess for some fans the familiarity will be comforting, but for others perhaps a little stale?
Project Runway cycle six is due to premiere on Lifetime August 20.
Elle magazine has picked itself up and dusted itself off after Stylista was cancelled on the CW network. Instead, it will feature in MTV’s The City, after the show’s resident ice queen, Olivia Palermo, scored a job in the publicity department of the magazine. Sources say that shooting of season two is already under way, with cameras entering the Elle offices this week. I wonder, will this television venture will be more successful?
The CW network has released its fall television schedule, and it’s looking good. Not only am I embarrassingly excited to see Vampire Diaries (I blame Twilight), I’m also quite keen to check out Mischa Barton’s latest show, The Beautiful Life. Centred around the lives of a bunch of models living in New York, it also stars Elle Macpherson and is produced by Ashton Kutcher. Check out a preview of the show above, which also features Zac Posen playing himself.
ALSO, see a sneak peek of the new Melrose Place remake, starring Ashlee Simpson, after the jump…
Our friends over at Shiny Media’s sensational television blog, TV Scoop, snagged an exclusive interview with Rachel Zoe. Naturally we were not only tres excited but also very jealous.
The much-talked-about stylist discusses her love of vintage, her personal style icons, and of course her reasons behind launching her fly-on-the-wall series, The Rachel Zoe Project, which currently screens on Really (Sky and Virgin Media). She is also apparently a very big fan of British fashion:
“The style in the UK is a huge, huge inspiration for me. I love… even walking along the streets of London, I’m like, aaaurgh [makes sighing noise]. You just get that great aristocratic style that I love so much. Like that classic English… Savile Row and all that. And… I love the whole Portobello/Notting Hill vibe too.”

Has Paulina Porizkova become just another victim of the global economic crisis? That is what Tyra Banks is citing after the Czech model was fired as judge on America’s Next Top Model. The only problem is that Paulina doesn’t quite see it that way.
She revealed on the Late Late Show that she was fired because it was suggested that she had a big ego. She then insinuated on Access Hollywood that behind-the-scenes Tyra is a diva, who was consistently late to set and only spoke to her in front of the cameras. Now, Tyra has responded to the claims by releasing the following statement:
“The current state of the economy has forced shows to make major budget cuts industry wide. America’s Next Top Model is not immune to these financially challenging times. We’ve had to make significant cuts in every area of the production and, unfortunately, Paulina was a casualty of these cuts.”
