It’s no secret we and our UK buddies over at Catwalk Queen have a major style crush on Alexa Chung, but unfortunately for us, we’ve never had a chance to get a load of her presenting skills and see her on-screen style as much as they do. Until now, that is.
Yep, the gal who is featured on seemingly everyone’s best-dressed lists and blogged about by loyal fashion-followers has made the big move to New York City, where she will be hosting a daily The Alexa Chung Show on MTV. As much as we’re sure our Brit pals will miss her, we’re looking forward to the live music performances, cosy sofa chats with celeb guests and of course, checking out Ms Chung’s ever-stylish wardrobe. Roll on June 15!
It was a match made in reality TV heaven, and the cameras were there to capture every moment. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were married for a second time over the weekend in front of their family and friends in Pasadena, California. The couple eloped to Mexico in November, but later found out their union was not legally binding. Dressed in floaty strapless Monique Lhullier dress, Heidi dazzled in over $1million of diamonds. Attending the nuptials were MTV stars Audrina Partridge, Brody Jenner, Kristin Cavallari and Lauren “Lo” Bosworth. But the biggest surprise was Lauren Conrad (above, right), who made a quick exit after originally saying that she wouldn’t be attending.

Since hitting our screens again in a BIG way for the 5th season, the cast of The Hills (plus ex-Hills-er and now City girl, Whitney Port) rocked up to PaleyFest ’09 in their best threads to participate in one of the panel discussions where the cast divulge all in a Q & A session.
Lauren Conrad looked very much the star, in her gorgeous mustard yellow frock, while Whitney stayed true to her chic boho style in an ivory floor-length tiered dress. Question playing on our minds: Where were Spencer and Heidi?

In a bid to rescue his reputation, Oscar de la Renta made a rare appearance on The View Monday to discuss *those* Michelle Obama comments. The designer has received backlash over his criticisms of Michelle Obama’s wardrobe, including wearing a cardigan to meet the Queen. “She’s entitled to wear anything she wants to. I may have chosen my words badly, and I regret it,” he said.
When Barbara Walters asked if he was jealous, he replied by saying: “Of course I’m jealous. Listen, to dress the First Lady is a tremendous privilege. I’m jealous if I’m not dressing every single woman.” Click play on video above to watch.
New Zealand’s formerly fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo accapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo (that’d be Flight of the Conchords in case you didn’t know), have been back on US tellies for a while now – what do you mean, you haven’t been watching!? If you actually haven’t, you’ve missed a doozy just recently when the boys started banging on about fashion, and more specifically, its ‘dangers’.
What we love (aside from the obvious incredible 80s fashion) is the tribute to Visage’s Fade to Grey vid, complete with paparazzi trying to capture Bret and Jermaine while their manager, Murray, tries to block the flashes. The poses are what really had us though! Now that is fashion. Watch and see for yourself…
Looks like the Real Housewives of New York City, left, won’t be the only Upper East Siders on Bravo soon. A film crew from Bravo was at a Lilly Pulitzer shopping event at the Upper East Side flagship.
WWD says the crew was filming for a “Gossip Girl”-like reality series tentitavely called “NY Prep” due out in the fall.
But, half the fun of scripted television is that characters can do alll sorts of things real life people wouldn’t do on camera, particularly while under contract with a television network which probably prohibits drug use and all the really juicy stuff.
The weekend brought with it the return of MTV’s newly-revived House of Style. The TV show, which had many of us glued to our screens in the late ’80s/early ’90s, has now partnered with Teen Vogue to bring us all latest from the world of fashion.
Starring Bar Rafaeli and Chanel Iman as co-hosts, the show’s weekend debut prompted mixed reactions from viewers, who felt it was too scripted and perhaps a little too geared towards the teen-set (erm… friendship bracelets, really?!). Here is a snippet from episode one, featuring Rafaeli interviewing Justin Timberlake on the eve of his New York Fashion Week show for William Rast. Click play on video above to watch.
The first images from the upcoming U.S. version of Absolutely Fabulous have been released.
Back, but in slightly different forms, Eddie and Patsy have been revived in Los Angeles for 2009.
Starring 3rd Rock‘s Kristen Johnston as Patsy and Kathryn Hahn as Eddie, the FOX network hope that the actresses can pick up where Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley left off.
Despite obvious similarities (a.k.a. the crazy wardrobe, Patsy’s bouffant hair) the public response so far hasn’t been overly supportive, with the NY Post deeming it “neither Ab or Fab.”
Cameras have been following everyone who is anyone around this season. From Coco Rocha for E! to a permanent crew shadowing Anna Wintour’s every footsteps, it seems the key accessory for Fall 2009 might just be a video camera. French Vogue‘s Carine Roitfeld has been the subject of a CNN profile, which has traced her movements around Milan and Paris fashion weeks for its Revealed programme. A sneak peek of that forthcoming show, scheduled to air here on the 18th March at 4:30 am EST, has surfaced online. Click play on the clip above to watch. [via Fashionologie]
P.S. Don’t despair if you miss it, repeat scheduling is expected – click here to find out the times.
I’ll admit, the most I remember of House of Style is the parody clip in Reality Bites. It’s a little before my fashion time.
But that’s doesn’t mean I’m not psyched for MTV to bring back this fashion news program. And who do they hope to launch to household status like they did with Cindy Crawford? Well, Chanel Iman is in the mix, as is Leonardo DiCaprio’s girlfriend Bar Refaeli.
Wouldn’t fashion week be a fab time to premiere the show? But knowing MTV they need at least 6 months to air teaser commercials so we’ll probably have to pin our hopes on spring ’10.
This is obviously good news for fans of Port and her ‘social’ (not socialite, darling) pal Olivia Palermo who are based in New York. It’s also good news for Diane von Furstenberg, where Port now works who will no doubt score more screen time thanks to MTV.
Wouldn’t it be exciting to be dressed by the same woman who creates January Jones’ fashions on Mad Men? Well, when Janie Bryant, costume designer for Betty Draper, Joan Holloway and all the AMC series’ stars, was asked about doing her own line by Glamour magazine she had this to say:
“I’m working on some things right now…I hate to be so mysterious but I can’t really say! It would have my name attached to it though.”
We’re guessing it couldn’t be completely 50′s/60′s inspired no matter how much we’d all eat that up, but you can count on some vintagy touches and Bryant’s attention to detail.
Wonder what Whitney Port is wearing in the latest episode of The City? Well since you’re such good friends and all she’ll tell you! Just go to her personal Web site this week and find out who made that dress or jacket (hint: It’s Diane von Furstenberg).
Her shoe collection is the most lust-worthy, and we’re guessing she couldn’t afford to keep it up even with her MTV money, so this whole wardrobe breakdown must be a way to give extra publicity to the brands who give her clothes.
In case you DVR’d Gossip Girl and weren’t inundated with commercials for Whitney Port’s new show, The City, here’s a little sneaky peak. Whitney talks to Teen Vogue about the show and how she’s liking living in New York City.
The New York Times yesterday skewered the show, and the whole Hills franchise, hilariously. Nonetheless we’re expecting it to be popular in the same way that the Hills is – earnestly with teens and ironically with fashion peeps and pop culture fiends.
Apparently even the svelte supermodels legions of women envy face some insecurity when walking in the biggest and nakedest of all fashion shows – the Victoria’s Secret lingerie show.
“For other fashion shows you can be skinny, but for Victoria’s Secret, you need definition,” says Doutzen Kroes who walks for high fashion heavy weights like Christian Dior and Valentino.
“I love feeling so sexy and I love to be on this runway, but you’re nervous because it’s lingerie and it’s on TV,” Kroes said. “There are so many people seeing you live, it’s not like a picture when there is Photoshop after.”
It’s rumored that Kroes will be wearing a frothy pink ballerina ensemble and a Greek goddess get-up in tonight’s televised event on CBS at 10 p.m.
