Fashionable Plagiarism– Britney vs. Madonna

By Elaine LaPersonerie on December 1st, 2008

rsz_mad.jpg

Boy oh boy, this was just too good to pass up. So, it looks like the Queen of Slop (Britney) borrowed some inspiration from the Queen of Pop (Madonna) for her performance at the Bambi Awards in Germany. I’m all about Brit making a comeback, don’t get me wrong, but this is a bit silly. The transparent shirt, hot pants, fishnets, hat, boots—it’s fashion robbery!

Hot or Not: Rihanna at the American Music Awards

By Elaine LaPersonerie on November 24th, 2008

th_1227584136_rex_821326t.jpg This is what I consider Fashion Suicide! Did Rihanna, one of “theeeee” biggest entertainers actually bomb on one of the biggest nights of her career? Ms. Umbrella may have picked up a trillion awards last night at the American Music Awards, but she definitely missed the mirror on the way out the door. I mean, does she not look like she was wrapped in dis-colored gauze or expensive toilet paper? And the bias cuts are positioned so poorly that each time she walked on stage she had to hold her dress in an effort to keep her “privates” private! The gloves are neither here nor there because I just can’t get past the dress. She happens to be a pretty hot chick but this was just an absolute mess. Some advice to the Rihanna camp…NEW STYLIST NEEDED!

ShinyStyle poll: are you watching Stylista

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on November 17th, 2008

Anne Slowey Stylista.jpg

Looks like Anne Slowey doesn’t have quite Heidi’s appeal. The Elle fashion news director’s fashion reality show Stylista isn’t exactly raking in the ratings.

It’s coming out below Gossip Girl, which we expected because nothing’s as good as Gossip Girl for your fashion fix. But it’s even below the new 90210.

The competition to become the next Elle editorial assistant attracts 1.97 million viewers a week, compared to similarly-themed Project Runway’s 3 mill a week – on cable, no less.

So, we were wondering, are you watching Stylista?

Bravo dumps Project Runway for copycat show ‘Fashion House’

By Kimberley Foster on October 28th, 2008

Project Runway Heidi.jpgHeidi Klum is facing pressure to find a new network home for Project Runway, after it was dumped by Bravo for a copycat designer reality show, called Fashion House.

TV execs at Bravo have all ready opened auditions for the replacement series, announcing casting call dates in four major cities, which began in New York on Sunday.

Series owner, Harvey Weinstein, sold the series to Lifetime for a reported $150 million last summer. But that deal was blocked by Bravo, which issued a court order to stop the sale.

The case is due back in court next month, however it seems that plans to pause production on a clone show until it is settled have been scrapped.

Lindsay Lohan, Rebecca Romijn and Eva Longoria to guest judge on Project Runway

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on October 21st, 2008

Project Runway season 6.jpg

Way at the bottom of a long article on the legal disputes surrounding season six of Project Runway, WWD revealed some interesting tidbits about the sixth season, which just wrapped filming in L.A.

We can look forward to guest judges like Rebecca Romijn, Eva Longoria and Lindsay Lohan - some of the show’s biggest celeb names yet. But what of big designer names? Hopefully the left coast relocation hasn’t put the kibosh on more industry-insider guests.

What won’t we see? Too much of Nina Garcia or Michael Kors, according to reports.

Preview Shirley Maclaine’s turn as Coco Chanel for Lifetime

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on August 28th, 2008

Boy, Lifetime is really angling to become a fashion channel, what with the acquisition of Project Runway and this Coco Chanel bioplic. Despite receiving some pitiful reviews, we were still rather intrigued to see Shirley Maclaine’s portrayal of Chanel.

Underwhelmed? Us too. Oh well… here’s to the Audrey Tautou version, which will be overseen by Karl Lagerfeld and begins filming on the 15th September, for a 2009 release.

Are you ready for season five of Project Runway tonight?

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on July 16th, 2008

Project Runway season 5.jpg

If you’re saying “what? Project Runway starts tonight?” that’s probably because Bravo has conspicuously foregone it’s traditional media blitz and non-stop marathons used to promote new seasons.

Could it be because of the ongoing legal issues surrounding the show’s move to Lifetime for season 6? Probably.

But there is news to be had – for goss on possible guest judges and challenges, keep reading.

Gossip Girl set photos reveal Leighton Meester hopping on a trend

By Andrea Thatcher on July 2nd, 2008

Just after we read about how bicycles are the newest “it” fashion accessory, this picture popped up in our inbox!

Leighton Meester, aka Blair Waldorf, was seen with an idyllic ride on the set of Gossip Girl. We wonder if these scenes were shot in the Hamptons or the city.

The perky Alice + Olivia dress she’s wearing sort of points towards Hamptons. We just can’t wait to see those episodes! Pick up Blair’s Garden Party dress here for $440.

Gossip Girl fashion: Chuck Bass channels Carrie Bradshaw

By Kimberley Foster on June 23rd, 2008

From our UK fashion blog, Catwalk Queen

I have a secret to share with you… I have a bit of a crush on Gossip Girl’s Chuck Bass a.k.a Ed Westwick. He isn’t too good-looking like Nate, and too… well, good like Dan, so it must be because he is bad. Hey, I wouldn’t be the first girl in history.

Nevertheless it’s his alternative geek-chic/preppy style that really makes me smile. Only someone like Chuck could get away with such colourful threads, even if yes, the bow ties are a bit much sometimes. That’s why when I saw this picture of him filming in the Hamptons, I had to take a second glance… I had seen those argyle socks somewhere before. Then it hit me – is Chuck Bass the new Carrie Bradshaw?

Preview the CW’s ‘Stylista’ and spot the Devil Wears Prada mimicks

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on June 18th, 2008

Could the CW have choreographed “Stylista” to be a any more like “The Devil Wears Prada?” Why Anne Slowey, Elle’s fashion news director, would agree to be portrayed as the evil editrix we go from loving to hate to just plan pitying and reviling is questionable, but I guess it’s just TV and hopefully not real.

What do you think of the new 90210 spin-off?

By Kimberley Foster on May 23rd, 2008

Reading this piece by the Fug Girls today regarding the new 90210 spin-off gave me a giggle. Someone over at CW has leaked a promotional video of the new television series and what you’re about to witness, I am afraid to say, is pretty average. I am inclined to agree with the Fugsters that what was once our favourite after-school teen soap, has now been ‘updated’ to a poor man’s version of Gossip Girl. The original 90210 broke trends in fashion (albeit bad ones, but we obsessed about them nonetheless). With this new lot, I can’t see anything particularly new or inspired fashion-wise, or remotely intriguing plot-wise. I hate to say it, but sometimes it’s often best to leave the past exactly where it stands… in the past.

Gossip Girl goes to the Hamptons and gets more eps next season!

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 8th, 2008

Gossip Girl on TRL 2.jpgClick image to enlarge.

Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Leighton Meester may be visiting TRL in New York City in the photo above, but their on-screen counterparts will be hitting the Hamptons for their second season.

“Cause you gotta go to the Hamptons, right?” Leighton Meester told Eonline’s Kristin Dos Santos on the set of Entourage, on which Meester is guest starring next season. “And, by the way, we aren’t shooting in Staten Island like they did on Sex and the City. We’re shooting in the real Hamptons.”

Ooh la la, who are the ruling fashionista’s of Manhatten now? For more GG season two news, keep reading.

Lydia Heart’s guest role on Gossip Girl – sneak peek!

By Kimberley Foster on April 29th, 2008

lydiaongg.jpg

Here’s the first sneak peek at model Lydia Hearst playing ‘Amelia’ in the new episodes of Gossip Girl. We blogged last week about the socialite’s star role in the hit TV show, and from the looks of this shot, it appears as though she has her eyes set on playboy Chuck (Ed Westwick). Due to air in the US on 19th May, Hearst’s character will be involved with Bart and Lilly’s wedding.
