It’s not a gala without Gossip Girls, and some gossip about them!

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 6th, 2008

Gossip Girls.jpg

Both Blake Lively and Michelle Trachtenberg, co-stars on Gossip Girl, attended the Met Costume Institute Gala last night. Ironically it is fellow castmate Leighton Meester’s character, Blair Waldorf, who would be most likely to attend the event in the ficticious New York of the show. (Can’t you just see Blair attending with her mother the designer?)

But back to reality and some real rumors that are spreading – apparently there is no love lost between Trachtenberg and the rest of the cast whom she avoided on the red carpet.

While he may not be snagging any stellar starring roles of late, Joshua Jackson certainly pulled it out as Diane Kruger’s leading man at last night’s Costume Institute Gala. If only Dawson could see him now.

Kruger was wearing a short silver dress with neck detailing by Alberta Ferretti. Likewise, Jennifer Lopez oozed early Hollywood glamour in the one-shouldered blue Alberta Ferretti gown, with bling encrusted neckline and cuff.

Even more so than award shows, the Costume Institute Gala must be a really romantic date night. No pressure, just lots of glamour.

Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise and the Beckhams made quite an impression on the red carpet at the Met Gala last night. As guests of co-chair, Giorgio Armani the awesome foursome were also dressed by the Italian designer.

Met Costume Institute Gala: two girls for every guy

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 5th, 2008

We have a feeling Christian Louboutin actually had more than two girls – in terms of who was wearing his footwear. But in terms of dates he graced the red carpet at the Met Costume Institute Gala with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

The girls were the guests of Diane von Furstenberg who created custom gowns for Hollywood’s first twins.

Russian fashion prodigy Kira Plastinina opens Soho flagship

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on May 2nd, 2008

Kira Plastinina has opened her first US retail store today in New York’s Soho neighborhood.

The store features a girlie candy-store quality, which is appropriate since the shop has a Dylan’s Candy Bar outpost.

An overall pink decor with brocade-patterned wallpaper and a circular “pouffe” seating banquette and photo booth are sure to attract teens ironically too young to partake in the clubbing lifestyle the fashion is inspired by.

Shapewear Report: Part 2 – total body control

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 5th, 2008

forming%20dress.jpg

Last week we talked about a few body shapers out there from comfortable, slimming slips to major control Spanx.

This week we’re concentrating on whole body slimmers that claim to take off the inches. First up is the Wolford Forming Dress, $195, available at Saks Fifth Avenue stores. Funny how the model wearing this piece at left not only doesn’t look like she needs slimming, but is also contorted in such a way to make her waist seem as small as possible.

If you can’t walk around sexy-leaning on walls all day, this still might be a good choice. It has bust support, convertable straps, and is one of the better-looking shapewear dresses out there.

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel

By Andrea Kiliany Thatcher on March 3rd, 2008

chanel08.jpg

The most exciting thing about the fall 2008 Chanel fashion show was the set – which featured a larger than life-size carousel with signature Chanel fashion items instead of horses and carriages. Items on the set, and runway, included jackets, ballet flats, and pearl jewelry.

Yet while the stage was kitch and overblown, the clothes were simplistic and rather more subdued. Accessories were all but banned, and save for some sunshine-yellow eyeshadow, the chic austerity of the tweeds and chiffons were allowed to come to the fore.
