Nancy Shevell has become one to watch in the fashion world following her wedding to one of the world’s most eligible bachelors.
The heiress who tied the knot with Sir Paul McCartney in a 40s style white frock designed by Stella McCartney, has caught the style crews eye thanks to her classic style.
Unlike many a superstar’s wife Nancy opts for understated chic. She’s a huge fan of the classic shift dress, which she dresses up with embellishments for a night out, while velvet is also a regular is her wardrobe.
However, she’s also a fan of the vintage trend, often spotted in a range of 60s and 40s pieces.

We’re sure with style like this she gets on very well with her designer step daughter.

At the age of eleven, bored of pop-punk like Busted and Good Charlotte and wanting something more, I inevitably discovered Nirvana. What followed was years of sitting in my room listening to Kurt Cobain wail in my babydoll dresses, band shirts and clumpy boots while posting tiny pictures of his face all over my wall to make a tiny Kurt shrine.

And what’s more, everyone at my school thought I was weird to be so obsessed with a band that had disbanded when I was two years old. But I really, really loved Kurt Cobain, and grunge. Naturally as I got older I progressed to other less poppy grunge, but Nirvana still holds a special place in my heart.

Well, HA HA to all the girls who picked on me at school for wearing a Kurt T-shirt under my school T-shirt, because grunge is cool again now thanks to the likes of Erin Wasson and Leigh Lezark. It’s cool to use dry shampoo instead of showering (though it’s probably better to shower – it’s not cool to smell, guys), it’s cool to wear band shirts and old babydoll dresses you found in the charity shop. This is something that Urban Outfitters have cottoned onto, because they’ve released the “Cobain Collection” as a means of tribute to one of grunge’s most famous frontmen.

When I think about it this is probably exactly the kind of thing that Kurt would have hated were he alive today – putting the collection in his name is probably in bad taste, but the clothes are nice..

The Cobain Collection is a cool selection of easy, wearable pieces inspired by the grunge scene (naturally there are a couple of Nirvana tees in there) including spiky silver jewellery, shredded jersey T-shirts and buckled ankle boots. Our favourite piece has to be the tan varsity jacket from BDG, which we want to wear with a pair of Levis, high-top trainers and a band shirt.

Check out our favourite pieces from the Cobain Collection in the gallery above.

I feel like Autumn/Winter 2011 is my lucky season as it draws inspiration from all of the fashion eras I should have been around for – especially the sixties, where on the runway we saw a curious blend of super-sexy fabrics such as leather and silk, but used in ladylike, prim 60s shapes for a sex-siren effect. For anyone who hasn’t tried the vintage look before, the devil is in the detail and a few classic accessories are invaluable.

You don’t need a whole new wardrobe to make this look work for you – if you’ve got a classic trench coat or a pea coat and a shift dress, to turn it into an on-trend look team the two with a simple contrasting leather handbag, a beehive and demure court shoes. Et voila, fashion magic is happening.

We’re a little obsessed at the moment with Fiorelli’s handbag designs for Dorothy Perkins, especially their beautifully simple square handbag in contrasting nude and black leather – it’s exactly like the kind of “best” handbag that my grandmother used to horde back in the day (and my grandma always looked impeccable). Forget big totes or horribly fussy OTT clutches, as the sixties purse is going to be your new best friend from now on.

Check out the gallery above to see all of our favourite sixties-inspired accessories.

Daisy, who has modelled for Agent Provocateur in the past, is thrilled to model for Pearl Lowe’s collections because they flatter her curvy, feminine figure. She told Vogue: “I love the spotted dress because it’s easy to throw on every day for any occasion. Mum makes dresses that flatter the female form.”

The latest collection designed by Pearl Lowe, of which there have now been seven, consists of six vintage-inspired dresses. Pearl has listed her inspirations behind the new designs as Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks.

Pearl said on the new designs: “In the 40s, people had to make their own dresses, so everything was so original and beautifully made. The prints, however, were inspired by my favourite singer Stevie Nicks. I predict the black dress with the white lace trim to be another sell out, as it’s a follow on from last year’s black dress with the lace collar that sold out in a week.”

It’s almost time to start wrapping up warm again (as I write this the house is cold and it’s raining outside, guh) – I am always sad to see summer go, because it’s my favourite season, but I always manage to cheer myself with the thought that colder weather means NEW JUMPERS.

Luckily, jumpers and pullovers are one of the key pieces that you’ll need this A/W if you want to keep in with the current trends. Thanks to Givenchy’s mental, luxurious take on grandma-wear which included shiny sweatshirts with prints of naked pin-up girls and wild animals on them, it’s all about silly, kitsch and often quite tacky knitwear.

The more stuff crammed into a jumper design, the better. If it makes your eyes water a little bit when you look at it, it’s probably perfect for this season. If you want to find something quite as spectacularly kitsch as the designs we’ve seen at Givenchy then you’re best off looking in vintage and charity shops, or having a quick flick through your mail-order catalogues. Or, if you just want a statement jumper there are also some cute pieces on the high street.

Check out the gallery above for our favourite statement jumpers.

We’re massive fans of the relatively new Asos Marketplace here at ShinyStyle, where young independent fashion and jewellery designers can have a platform to showcase and sell their work. Today it’s pin-curls and court heels at the ready for Poppy Valentine, the vintage-inspired independent label we’ve just discovered that specialises in 40s and 50s designs.

The high street is brilliant for vintage-style pieces, but sometimes you just can’t beat a handmade piece made from genuine vintage fabrics where a lot of love and care has gone into the garment – and that’s what Poppy Valentine is all about.

Our personal favourite design from the collection is their 40s-style wrap dress, which comes in a variety of different prints and isn’t completely unlike the kind of thing Miu Miu has been making lately. They’re completely elegant and perfect for channelling your inner Dita Von Teese with some coiffed hair and red lipstick.

Check out the gallery above to see Poppy Valentine’s designs – just one of many good reasons why you should give Asos Marketplace a go.

S-s-s-s-s-Salt and Pepa’s here!

Last year you had to trek to the middle of a market in South London to buy jewellery like this but now the high street is cottoning on to it as well and replicating the retro styles of eighties jewellery – but if you enjoy the hunt, it’s worth digging through charity shops and vintage stores for the real thing.

This is not a trend for the shy and the meek – if you’re going to wear jewellery like this you have to wear it LOUD, and with the attitude to back it up. I’m going to go and practise my swagger right now while you guys check out the best ghetto-girl earrings you can get online in the gallery above.

With starlets everywhere choosing to chop off their looks for boyish styles and spurning evening gowns for tuxedo jackets and suits, androgyny has never been hotter than it is right now. Thanks to Dolce & Gabbana and Stella McCartney, this Autumn it’s going to be all about doing it like a dude, and we want in.

Luckily there’s a cool and easy way to go androgynous without having to wear a zoot suit, if that sounds a little daunting to you – forget your trusty ballerina flats and trade them in for a masculine, classic pair of brogues or loafers a la Alexa Chung, because within a month or so they’ll be the only flat shoe that matters. They’ll look good with anything, whether it’s a floaty summer dress or a pair of skinny jeans and a band shirt. (Especially good with skinny jeans and a band shirt).

The high street is allll over this trend – I particularly recommend Topshop, whose scarlet leopard-printed loafers are a quirky and colourful take on the trend and will look great with a pair of leggings and a slouchy jumper for a laid-back look. Another favourite pair is the metallic pewter pair from Asos, which will jazz up a pair of jeans or an old dress.

This is a great trend for us Brits because classic masculine footwear is what we do best. It’s quirky, old fashioned and cool – get on board with this season’s It shoe and check out the gallery above.

Oh happy days, the mod trend is back with a swinging sixties vengeance and I couldn’t be happier if I tried.

At this Autumn/Winter’s fashion shows the likes of Jil Sander and Burberry Prorsum travelled back into the past to bring us a veritable assortment of swing coats, tunic dresses, ankle boots and ski-inspired knitwear in a bold rainbow of colour.

More wearable than other upcoming trends such as goth, craftwork and (whisper it) zoot suits, the scooter girl look is a cute and girly way to easily sail through the perils of a new fashion season. What’s more, the simplicity of mod-inspired clothes means that it’ll be an incredibly easy look to wear in the winter months when you want to layer up. Snuggly and fashion-savvy, this is a trend we’ll get on board for.

If you’re looking for the definitive tunic dress then head on over to Asos, where we guarantee a rush on their brilliant turquoise tunic with contrasting pockets. Meanwhile, Topshop is all over Chelsea boots and have updated the classic sixties boot style with a few quirky fashion-forward twists such as fringing and studs.

The high street is already all over this trend, so if you’re ready to start planning your A/W wardrobe then check out our gallery above – we’ve had a highly successful search for amazing mod-inspired pieces.

Kooky celebrities donned their vintage 40s outfits and hit the town to celebrate the opening of the 2011 Jacques Townhouse.

Keisha went for the ultimate white satin straight dress teamed up with an oriental style umbrella for the event, while Jamie Winstone showed off her 40s chic with a cute satin white sleeved wrap dress.

Jasmine Guinness took the 40s look to another colour level with a straight black frock, but Laura Whitmore decided not to join in, instead going for a pale blue denim dress. Preeya Khalidis also kept it on-trend with a monochrome outfit consisting of a skirt and blouse.
