Those of us who know a little bit (or alot) about the way couture items are made, will know that even a pattern drawing or stitch a millimetre out of place could ruin the whole outfit, making clothes pukker or sit funny when they are on.
And this is an even more important rule for tailored couture menswear, especially suits. So we were really pleased to find this video by Dolce and Gabbana, which shows exactly how it should be done.
The video, which shows a preview of their men’s winter 2010 collection shows how a suit is painfully put together and covers everything from the pattern cutting to stitching. It’s been made to mark a decade of sharp menswear by the brand.
Time to get the scissors and sewing machines out girls.
Earlier today we gave you a preview of Emma Watson’s new (and second) campaign for Burberry, where she poses next to her brother in a range of the brand’s ss2010 products.
The photos are moody and full of attitude, and it made us wonder whether any of the crew and models themselves had any fun during the day. However, we’ve managed to get our hands on a video, which shows how the photos were shot as well as giving a behind the scenes look. After viewing it we can definitely say there was an air of magic on the set.
Take a deep breath ladies, because we’ve got a brand new trailer for this years Sex and The City 2 film.
The clip gives us a tiny glimpse of all the fashion and excitement we’ve been waiting for and we love Sarah Jessica Parker’s white dress in the first scene, which we hope gives a hint of all the fashion delights to come in the film.
We’re already jumping around in our seats.
The film presented by New Line Cinema, in association with Home Box Office, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2010.
Lara Stone shows she’s a model to be reckoned with in this short black and white film for Karl Lagerfeld’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection.
The gorgeous model, who has been criticised for “being too fat”, shows stylists don’t really know what they’re talking about as she and male model Baptiste Giabiconi act out a scenario where they play PVC clad thieves robbing Chanel boutiques.
You can watch the video, called Vol de Jour below.
A host of top models, musicians and actors have teamed up with Global Cool to show UK fashionistas how wrapping up warm this winter can stop us from wasting money on home heating bills, benefit our health and save the planet.
According to the organisation, heating within the home accounts for 30 per cent of the average Brit’s carbon footprint, which is even more than cars produce at 26.1 per cent.
Figures show that for every one degree you turn your heating down, you could save up to £40 a year and go from burning 20 calories an hour to 80 calories an hour – all while you’re sleeping (well that’s a good enough reason for us).
’18 Degrees of Inspiration’ is the latest campaign launched by forward-thinking climate change charity Global Cool.
Its aim is to inspire the UK’s fash-pack to go easy on the heating this winter and keep thermostat temperatures below 18 degrees Celsius, by showing you how to wear this season’s latest knitwear trends at home in a range of different videos including designers such as Dolce and Gabanna, McQueen, Reiss, Jaeger, Arman Bassi One, Antipodium and Diesel. They give us an exclusive look inside each celebrity’s home as a stylist helps them create an outfit to suit their lives.
We love the video below featuring supermodel Laura Bailey who gets some winter warming tips from stylist Grace Woodward.
Global Cool’s Facebook fans can also win a new winter wardrobe in association with ASOS.com – simply upload a picture of yourself wearing your most stylish winter knits, get your friends to vote for you, and you could win £500 worth of vouchers! Go to www.facebook.com/globalcool
Ultimate diva Beyonce and current avant-garde diva Lady Gaga have teamed up in a new video for a remix of Beyonce’s song, ‘Video Phone’. Watch the video here.
Lady Gaga was reportedly concerned about upstaging Beyonce, saying she was going to have to tone down ‘fashion Gaga’, but she didn’t need to worry – Beyonce’s pulled out a series of multicoloured, big-shouldered and see-through outfits that almost put Gaga’s usual efforts to shame. The Cut did a break down of the various looks in the video in a slideshow, but it can be summarised succinctly as ‘lots of bodysuits’. Oh, and plastic guns, and a look that’s reminiscent of Will Smith in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Look out for Lady Gaga halfway through, wearing a demure white strapless bodysuit with matching elbow-length gloves.
Now I’m not sure about you, but I always get confused with my styles in between seasons.
It’s the time when the new is coming in and the old is fading away and you’re not quite sure how to wear the latest fashions. I usually get around this by teaming things up and hoping for the best, and I think, so far it’s worked.
However those who that little bit more cautious will love this video by Topshop, which goes behind the scenes of the store and shows some new-season style inspiration based on its Autumn/Winter 09 collection.
We are used to seeing her donning her Sixties retro full-skirted frocks and Stepford Wife pearls for Mad Men, but the real-life January Jones is anything but. The actress is Elle‘s August ’09 cover girl as shot by Mariano Vivanco. Check out the video above for a behind-the-scenes look at her shoot – and keep your eyes peeled for an appearance by Donatella Versace! Click play on video above to watch.
Lots of bloggers are talking about Leighton Meester’s new single, Body Control today. The Gossip Girl starlet has been working on her début album of what she calls “sexual electro-pop,” and now a track believed to be on that album has found its way onto YouTube. It’s a little too early for me to make my mind up about it, but Leighton certainly has the pipes to carve a music career for herself. Don’t believe me? Then check out this audio clip of her singing her own version of Bette Davis Eyes. Gwyneth who?
Our friends in Canada will be familiar with Coco Rocha’s TV reporting work for E! The model was all over Fashion Week filming a special Coco Rocha Fashion Attack! which was given a special screening in New York this week. The show includes interviews with designers and funny moments with her Elite agent Micki Schneider. Check out the clip above of Coco taking camera tips from another model-turned-TV-star, Heidi Klum.
For months you have heard us banging on about The September Issue, the Anna Wintour/Vogue documentary that has whipped fashion followers into a frenzy. Now, the official trailer for the “frockumentary” has hit the net, ahead of the film’s September 11 release in the U.S. Click play on video above to watch.
Here is something to really make you feel depressed about the recession (sorry!) Paris Hilton opens up her gigantic closet to the folks at MySpace’s The Fit. It reminds me of that scene from Will & Grace when Karen opens up her mammoth wardrobe to show Jack. And if you can look past Paris’s constant posing and flogging of her products, its a real eye-opener. Like an entire closet dedicated to shoes!
The CW network has released its fall television schedule, and it’s looking good. Not only am I embarrassingly excited to see Vampire Diaries (I blame Twilight), I’m also quite keen to check out Mischa Barton’s latest show, The Beautiful Life. Centred around the lives of a bunch of models living in New York, it also stars Elle Macpherson and is produced by Ashton Kutcher. Check out a preview of the show above, which also features Zac Posen playing himself.
ALSO, see a sneak peek of the new Melrose Place remake, starring Ashlee Simpson, after the jump…

In this short clip, Agy explains her ever-changing style, which began when she cut all her hair off at the age of 11. Click play on the video above to hear what she has to say.
