Zara P.jpg

It's that time of year again. Frocks, fancy hats and horses. Yes that's right it's the Cheltenham Festival.

We love this event, which gives us great insight into the world of dresses, hats and high shoes. There's always frocks to be admired and of course avoided.

However one guest who shyed away from these styles was Royal Zara Phillips, who went for riding boots, jogpers and an off white summer mac. Now we know, it's hardly fancy, but when you consider Zara is a serious rider, it makes sense. And we think she really rocked the look.

Do you agree? Let us know by leaving your comments below.

Is Sandra Bullock a style icon? If we're honest it's a question that we've been pondering for a while.

Now we don't want to kick the actress when she's down - the rumour circulating at the moment is that she's pulled out of the UK premier of The Blind Side, amid claims her husband Jesse James cheated on her with a tattoo model - however we think it's something that needs to be decided.

There's no denying Sandra is a casual girl at heart, she told Instyle Magazine: "I feel sexiest when the person I love wakes up next to me and looks at me with love even if my hair looks like the dogs have been chewing on it."

Glamour also described the actress as "our patron saint of laid-back style."

And we have to agree Sandy pulls off the casual look really well. We think her jeans and black top combo, which she wore to her ceremony for her Hollywood walk of fame, was classic, yet chic.

So we've opted to have a her style on various red carpets.

We're sure you'll agree the actress shone at this year's Oscars in a vintage fabric silver frock, which we think was more than enough to earn her a fashion award.

And it seems this shade worked for her when she wore a grey Grecian style frock to the premier of Premonition in 2007.

However, grey tones haven't always worked to Sandra's advantage. At the German premier of The Proposal, the actress went for a very unflattering kimono style frock, which she teamed up with court shoes in the same colour, making her look more frump than fabulous.

And the frump theme carries on with her navy "grandma" style dress, complete with capped sleeves, which she wore to the Venice Film festival premier of "Infamous."

We can't deny she didn't look lovely in her red ethnic style frock at the 9th Annual costume designers Guild awards in 2007, but yet again it seems this shade let her down in 2009 when she wore, what looks like a red silk top and black skirt, with some horrible flat shoes (or flippers?).

So what's our verdict? Well as we've said before she pulls off the casual look well, but red red carpet style sometimes gets confused with her nan's dress up box. For that reason we've decided to give her a not too bad 7 out of ten.

But now we want you to tell us what you think. Is Sandy a style queen or a fashion faux pas?

kristen-stewart-MarketTee.jpg

We're big fans of Kristen Stewart over here at ShinyStyle. Her choice of eveningwear is kooky - we loved the white sequined Chanel dress she wore to the Baftas and the navy taffeta frock she donned for this year's Oscars - but we adore her daytime look, which is right up our street. The Twighlight actress opts for jeans, t-shirts and casual jackets, while still looking cool in Converse trainers.

She also opts for leggings, which of course we all know are still a big fashion over here (although we hope with the summer months approaching this trend will begin to fade out).

So imagine how pleased we were when we found out we could get the exact grey boyfriend style tee the star was snapped wearing on her way to American talk show Regis & Kelly where she was promoting her new film The Runaways.

It's called Milla and it's by American company Market. You can buy it here for a bargain $33.

Team up with PVC leggings and trainers a la Kristen, and don't forget to add that statement scowl.

Let's face it, there is nothing normal about Lady Gaga.

She's got the quirkiest style going and an amazing voice to top it off. And it seems everyone is just as in awe as we are with her.

Far from shying away from the singer's funky fashion sense, designers such as Armani, Viktor & Rolf and of course, the late Alexander McQueen, have lined up to create outfits for this style icon. And they've also dressed her to perfection in terms of her style.

We've decided to put together a gallery of Ms G's most outrageous outfits to show how wacky she is. Let us know your favourite one by leaving your comments below.

Celebrities are well known for trying to out do each other in the style stakes, with many dressing up to the nines at events in a bid to look better than the rest. However, it's not just what you look like on the red carpet but also your everyday style that makes you a fashion star.

So every Friday we'll be grabbing two celebs and putting them into the fashion ring, where we'll analyse each one, their style and what other people say about them to bring you a winner.

But we'll also be asking for your help too. We want you to vote and let us know who think wins every week too.

Jennifer Aniston.
Jennifer Aniston is usually seen in casual outfits, think jeans and on-trend tops, unless she's attending a film premier, where she'll often opt for a classic black long dress by designer Valentino. Her "Rachel" haircut in Friends also caused many women to chop off their locks in a bid to copy the style in 1995.

In 2006 Jen won an online award for US People's Magazine "The Best Dressed star in Hollywood," where she beat off competition from Halle Berry, with Jessica Alba as a result of her laid back style of jeans and T-shirts and blazers. Many people also voted her their favourite as they felt she was one person they could dress like.

Worst outfit.

Her black dress complete with a slit and plunging neckline at this year's Golden Globes, was compared by some critics to a frock worn by Jen's ex husband's wife Angelina Jolie. We hope it was more a coincidence than a copycat look. Despite her hair been a much talked about subject Jen also showed that even the best of us can have a bad hair day turning up to the Emmy Awards in 1999 with wild-child faux dreads.

What others say: Fashion magazine NZGirl says: "Jennifer's fashion style is very understated - you'll never spot her in a fluorescent pink halter-top. She prefers natural colours and fabrics and loves wearing comfortable clothes like jeans, long skirts and tank tops."

Angelina Jolie

Angelina may have stolen Jennifer's man but can she steal her style crown too? We can't deny Ange is one of the most gorgeous women to have graced our screens over the past few decades and let's face it not many men will disagree. However her style is often somewhat pickled. Unlike Jen, Ange doesn't do classic on an everyday scale. It's usually black, gothic and in the past, before the children, very revealing. You're more likely to catch her in a skirt or figure hugging dress rather than jeans. And her past red carpet style has been the same. She turned up to the Oscars twice in a row wearing gothic black, and of course that black dress with the split, which Jen, was claimed to have copied. However over recently her red carpet style has changed and we've seen her looking stunning in sparkles and delicate designs. One outfit that really sticks out is the canary yellow Ungaro couture frock she wore for the 2007 premiere of Ocean's Thirteen.

Worst outfit

Before we begin here, we think it's only fair to mention Ange's worst fashion moment, which in our opinion was getting sacked as the face of fashion brand St Johns. The actress who had fronted campaigns for the company since 2005 was sacked late last year after bosses claimed she was too hard to work with. So has she made any mistakes on the red carpet. Many. Now we think it may be a little bit unfair to go right back but we can't forget her first Oscar appearance when she was aged ten (1986) and chose to walk the red carpet in what looked like a mini bridesmaid dress. Her Elvira looking dress at the 2000 Oscars, complete with Ange's black hair was also not a fashion experience we care to remember.

What others say: Vogue.com said: "Since her powerful pairing with Brad Pitt in 2005, Jolie has become the highest-earning actress in the world. Her style has gradually become more glamour-oriented while her role as a mother-of-six has seen it soften. Red carpet outfits include gowns from Versace, Armani Privé and Max Azria."

Our verdict?
We have to admit, it was a bit of a tough one. After all Jen is classically stylish, while Ange wows on the red carpet. But we've decided that the celeb that wins this Friday's fight is Jen. Her classic styles make us all feel as though we can look as good as a celeb and makes us feel as though walking around in jeans and blazers, during the day are perfectly fine. Ange, we love your leather looks, but a trip shopping in those may leave us feeling like Ross in that episode of Friends. We need the talc just thinking about it.

Tell us who you think wins bu voting below. And if you can't quite make up your mind view our gallery for some photographic inspiration.

It's the video we've all been waiting to see; Lady Gaga's and Beyonce's collaboration for Telephone. And even if you don't heart the music it's worth watching it for the sheer amount of outfits sported by the two singing sensations.

Lady Gaga sets the tone for the trends when she steps out into a prison scene clad in a PVC black and white striped dress, similar to the one that gave her problems on the plane last week, complete with Lady G statement sharp shoulders. In a tribute to the song she wears a coke can (yes you read right) in her barnet.

And the wacky outfits don't end there. In a parody to prison attire Miss G dons chains, complete with leather skirt and jacket before taking it all off to show off a studded bra and knicker set. And those worried that the trademark headpieces had been lost, fear not, because the pirate hat and telephone, er, hat? all make up for it.

And it's not just the Lady that makes a play for the PVC, with Beyonce donning a few of these herself, we particularly love her yellow PVC dress and matching hat, which matches the Kill Bill ethos, and Pussy Wagon the girls drive around it.

We think its the best funky fashion show we've seen for a very long time!

View the video below and tell us what you think.

Blazers have made it through the winter season and continued to stay on-trend into spring with many a celebrity opting for one of these smart jackets to keep the cold at bay.

Two such clelbrities who have been seen sporting this trend are Jennifer Aniston who wore one of these over her Valentino dress at last nights UK premier of the Bounty Hunter and Selma Blair who opted for one of these at the Vanity Fair Oscar 2010 after party.

Now we're not currently sure who designed either of the blazers the actresses wore, but we're working on it to find out. If you know, please do shed some light for us by leaving your comments below.

And of course tell us who wore the blazer best by voting below. Was it Jen with her short version or Selma who opted for a longer cut and accessorised it with a scarf?

Fashion Face Off: Lady Gaga VS Fergie

Comments (1)

Fergie fashion face off.jpg

We never ever thought we'd be writing this, but it seems someone might just be stealing Lady Gaga's funky fashion crown - well for performance costumes anyway.

So whose the contender? Black Eyed Pea's Fergie.

Now we know that stage costumes are usually out of this world (think Rihanna right through to Girls Aloud) and are a perfect way for singers to express themselves, but we think Fergies outfit, complete with Gaga style sharp shoulders, is a hot competitor to Ms G's look.

And we have to admit Fergie wears the space age silver top, complete with Madonna style bosom cups, really well.

But has she gone far enough to beat Lady Gaga's Armani Prive designed costumes? Let us know what you think by leaving your comments below.

Selma.jpg

Like with the Oscar's ceremony we were a little bit hard pressed to find a worst dressed celebrity at the Vanity Fair Oscar 2010 party. Katie Price stuck to Elton's do, and other celebs really dressed for the occasion.

However, there is always one that gives us an excuse for a little "what was she wearing" comment and we're sorry to say that these words have fallen on Selma Blair.

We don't mind the sparkly frock, but the length is a little bit confused for us, sitting too far under the knee and too high up to make it full length. We also think the blazer the actress has teamed it up with is too heavy for the outfit.

And we understand that it was cold, but Selma, really, you're already wearing a blazer, you don't need a scarf. Take a look around you and have a think about all those ladies who have braved the freeze without even a shawl.

Katie Price Oscars.jpg

Many people are pitching Katie Price (AKA Jordan) and Victoria Beckham against each other in the fashion stakes at the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards.

After all, they've been well publicised enemies for many years now. However, we're not sure who would say Ms Price looked good in her frock, let alone beat a fashionista.

Now don't get us wrong we generally don't have a problem with Katie Price (we're not team Pete or team Price t-shirt wearing girls), however, we have to say that her frock has got to be the worst one of the Elton John after party night.

To be fair on the model, mum and business woman, she kept her (er) assets covered up proving she can be elegant, however, the shiny fabric and huge flowers make her look like a mermaid who got lost in a poppy field.

We think that's 5-1 to Victoria, Jordan.

Salma Hayek Elton.jpg

Although the actual Oscar's typically see celebrities opt for long (or in Amanda Seyfried's case, bridal) dresses, after parties are more likely to be sprinkled with a more casual feel with less beading and shorter frocks.

Milla Jovovich Elton.jpg

Two such celebs that went for this style at the18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards were Milla Jovovich and Salma Hayek, who at first glance we thought were wearing the same dress (maybe we need a new pair of glasses).

However at closer inspections we realised that Milla went for a strappy mosaic printed number while Salma took the little dress look to a new level, opting for a satin capped sleeved frock with a structured skirt.

We think both look gorgeous (although with that puffy skirt we can imagine Salma would fit nicely over a few loo rolls), but can't quite decide who wore it best. So we need your help.

Let us know who you think won the fashion face off by leaving your comments below.

Sarah Jessica Parker.jpg

She was the red carpet starlet we were waiting with baited breath for. The one who has made headlines for her perfect fashion choices, and become one of our favourite style icons (although sadly we have to opt for highstreet versions). We're sure you know exactly who we're talking about but those who are a bit confused it's Sarah Jessica Parker.

So did she impress us? Of course she did.

The Sex and the City starlet lit up the red carpet in an on-trend gold floaty (almost 60s) Chanel gown with beading on the shoulders. And she also didn't disappoint when it came to individuality.

Her frock came complete with what can only be described as a back to front halterneck. Yes that's right, you read right, the strap went across the front of her neck (think choker style) instead of around the back.

However, Jessica, as much as well loved your dress, we think the make-up was all wrong. Yes it was sixties, yes it tied in with the dress, but we can't help but think it might have been suited to a night in a Southend nightclub.

wenn2751592.jpgLauren Bravo reports:

Hurrah hurrah, Oscars night is upon us! As the stars primp, preen and polish up those pebble-sized diamonds, we at ShinyStyle are ready for a night of sumptuous Hollywood fashion.

Ever-dedicated to being first on the scene with style gossip, Andrea and I are all set in our pyjamas with Red Bull and Dairy Milk standing by, to stay up all night and bring you the good, the bad and the ugly from the red carpet...

So as we gear up for the big (Louboutin-ed) kick-off, here are the top five questions I want answering this evening:

Will maxi or mini prevail?
Ok, long dresses are the bread and butter of award ceremonies (making them the panettone and clotted cream of this, the calendar's most important film event). But in recent years we've seen a few steps away from the traditional floor-sweeper and towards minis and flirty '50s-style ballerina lengths, especially on the younger, hipper starlets. Then there's always the kooky one or two who will plump for trousers (Meryl, my money's on you).

Will anybody drown in Mariah's cleavage?
For once, the woman should be exuding a bit of class. After her acclaimed turn in Precious (for which she frumped up like a pro), one would hope she'd take the chance to dress the part of a serious thespian. But then, if her appearances at the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards are anything to go by, maybe she'll stick with the diamanté-encrusted persona that we know and, um, love. Either way, I reckon there'll be bazoomas on display.

wenn2714773.jpgWill the Brit girls wave the fashion flag?
Kate Winslet can always be relied on for some old-school glamour, usually in a trademark figure-hugging sheath dress. Meanwhile, rising star Carey Mulligan ought to give her a run for her money, with the combination of refined elegance and gamine edge that she's been displaying throughout awards season. Other British ladies I'll be excited to see include Emily Blunt, Rosamund Pike and the ever-sexy grand Dame of awards fashion, Helen Mirren.

Which of the Nine girls will come out on top?
It may have been a little bit style-over-substance, but Rob Marshall's musical homage to Fellini delivered one of the sexiest casts we've seen this year. With Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman and Fergie all representing Nine tonight, I'm keen to see who will bring that showgirl pzazz to the red carpet.

What will 2010's key colour be?
In previous years we've seen black, red, pink and midnight blue all take turns to be Oscar hue du jour. But this year I'm predicting that the stars will keep things pale and interesting with nude, white and pastel shades, as well as a bit of striking monochrome. Provided a sudden downpour doesn't turn anything see-through, things should be all white on the night... (sorry).
