Zac Posen silk dress.jpg

We know you've got a lot of parties going for the holiday season whether it's beer at a friend's house or a grand gala. So throughout the holiday season we'll be dedicating our Designer Pick of the Week on Tuesdays and our Bargain Pick of the Week on Thursdays to party dresses. So everyone gets tons of inspiration for their own looks, and you can check out fun frocks at various price points.

Today we chose Zac Posen's silk love dress, $1,800, for its unique color. The lime full-skirted dress with stitch panel detailing will really stand out among the sea of reds and greens at holiday get togethers.

Jennifer Connelly December Marie Claire.jpg(Click image to enlarge)

While most December magazine news revolves around that other Jennifer, actress Jennifer Connelly caught our attention in the December 08 issue of Marie Claire.

You can see her in the season's best Little Black Dresses just in time for the party season, and we've got a sneak peek at her in CRHEE's Slowdive dress from their fall/winter collection above.

(And if you're wondering, she's wearing Pierre Hardy shoes.)

Diane von Furstenberg dress sale.jpg

A bunch of new items have been added to the sale section of SaksFifthAvenue.com. Plus, a small link at the top of the homepage lets you know that you can get free shipping on any order with the code SFASHIP4 through November 16.

Clearly, now is the time to search for that holiday dress. And we think we've found it.

This Diane von Furstenberg Ellen Marie Sparkle Dress is to die for in a wool blend that offers more structure than her jersey knits. It's currently on sale for $195, down from $325.

Bargain POTW Target dress.jpg

We think this dress would make a great start to a myriad of Halloween costumes so it would be perfect for our pre-Halloween Bargain Pick of the Week.

The Target strapless dress, $29.99, has some adorable tulle peeking out from the bustline. We think it's begging for a tulle underskirt as well to take it into full-on Betsey Johnson territory.

Almost any celebrity/pop star costume could be put together with this dress, and you'd definitely get some use out of it the rest of the year.

Marie Antoinette dress.jpg

We found a terrific site for those who are as obsessed with period films and their costumes as we are, The Costumers Guide to Movie Costumes. One of Fashionista's Fashion Trivia commenters mentioned it.

While perusing the site we came across this link to the Royal Ontario Museum where there is a podcast about restoring a dress believed to be Marie Antoinette's.

High End POTW.jpg

We're not sure whose caviar dreams include spending $1,000 plus on a Halloween get-up, but at least this one is fabulous and has a life outside a closet full of slutty Disney princess costumes.

The Luella Penelope Ribbon Dress, $1,130, is darkly gothic and fashionably sexy.

It also requires some creativity on your part. Sure, you could be a witch, or you could be a dark fairy, a dead socialite? Tell us your stylishly spooky ideas in the comments!

Kimchi Blue No Direction Home Dress.jpg

One of the wonders of the seasonless dressing we're all so fond of is picking from the end of season sales for the very next season.

Pair this Kimchi Blue No Direction Home Dress, $39.99 down from $68, with tights and a cardi and you know you'll wear it through the fall.

Plus, we think this dress looks like it cost more than $68 anyway. It's cotton, trimmed with raw-edge ruffles and a button placket at the chest. The drawstring belt at the waist gives it a cute silhouette.

Vena Cava dress.jpg

Searching the summer sales for items that can transition into fall can be tricky, and leave you wearing strapless dresses in October to justify a purchase.

But this silk crepe de chine Vena Cava Topanga dress, down to $129 from $525 is going to make one lucky size 10 a wonderful fall option.

The black and cream combo is seasonless, and tights will go nicely.

Check out Barney's sale for tons of DVF, Vince, classic knits and accessories.

This one's for all the DIYers out there. Novices can learn a little bit about fabric (at Project Runway favorite Mood Fabrics) and get easy step-by-step instructions for the easy dress, while more experiences sewers might just enjoy adding a new silhouette to their repertoire. Threadbanger.com is a great resource for fashionable how-tos like this!

Amanda Wakely sale.jpg

It's starting! Spring 08 fashions are beginning to go on sale, and Amanda Wakely's online sale starts tomorrow! And we're not talking a 20% teaser sale, they're going all out with 50% off. Keep reading for info on the items above!

Bargain POTW dress.jpg

I might have a little too much on top to pull off this ruffly, pleated bodice. But that's the great thing about my job - if I love something but it's not right for me I get to share it with all of you!

Dresses are best!

It looks like in our poor economic climate, shoppers who can only afford a few items are trying to make them count. And what better way than with a dress?

"The dress is still strong for us, and by the look of the resort markets, it will remain one of the best categories. It's interesting when a trend morphs into a way of life," Bergdorft Goodman senior vice president Linda Fargo told WWD. "There are far fewer decisions to make, when it's time to decide what to wear every day ... not only does 'the dress' simplify our lives, it ultimately says 'feminine,' and is able to express many of our fashion personalities, from soft and romantic, to fierce and sexy, to professional, to dramatic and elegant."

The weather has been heating up and today's the first day the humidity has really hit us in the face when we walked outside. Not the time for knits and heavy jerseys.

But the perfect time for April, May linen dresses. The collection of dresses, separates and accessories is created by Paris-based designer Diane Goldstein Sitbon with an eye toward the distinctive, alluring and fun.

The dresses above are certainly all those things - in addition to light and breezy!

Designer POTW CK.jpg

In honor of Francisco Costa's win for womenswear with his Calvin Klein Collection at the CFDA awards, we chose a dress from his spring 2008 collection for our designer pick of the week.

While most of the collection was comprised of whites and neutrals, we really loved the blue-greens that Costa wove throughout the presentation - like this spectra satin organza strapless dress.

The color really popped and is the perfect thing for spring and summer. It's easy to go to blues and reds to compliment your whites, but if you're feeling more fashion and less yankee doodle, teal and sea blue shades are perfect.

who wore it better.jpg

Haylie Duff and Victoria Beckham both got their hands on What Comes Around Goes Around's black Marsha dress, $315.

We were surprised that VB actually had the more funky outfit with black gloves and a cardigan, while Haylie kept her look more classic.

Who do you think wore it better?
