It's usually the trends that dictate red carpet outfit choices, but this year actor and activist Danny Glover has introduced ethics into the mix by asking attendees not to wear Hugo Boss suits to tonight's Academy Awards.
The Lethal Weapon star has sent a letter to nominees and presenters asking them to boycott the designer on behalf of workers at the company's plant in Cleveland, who will lose their jobs if the factory closes at the end of next month as planned.
The letter, dated February 26, asked the film industry to "take a small stand for American workers" by shunning the designer, who has disputed reports that the closure will leave almost 400 workers jobless. Glover has also asked stars to wear lapel pins on the red carpet, reading "Keep the Hugo Boss Plant Open".
We're sure that the stars will be keen to support a noble cause - but with less than two weeks to rethink their outfits, we'll be interested to see if Boss makes a controversial appearance on the red carpet tonight...
It doesn't look like Lady Gaga's fashion fun is going to end anytime soon, in fact it seems to be getting more outrageous the more time she spends in the UK.
Not content with lobsters on her head the singer turned up to film the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross show (due to be aired this Friday) with an old school Telephone hat on her head.
We know she may be trying to promote her "Telephone" single but maybe the singer went a little bit too far this time, especially when you consider her goldfish bowl shoes, although kudos to the singer for being able to walk in these.
Although we can't be sure rumour has it that Miss G also continued her phone fetish by dancing around a telephone booth.
We'll be cancelling our nights out or setting our boxes to record to catch this episode. And remember, next time you want to do something 'hip' there's never a telephone box too far away. Get that iPod and those dancing shoes out and head to your nearest calling point.
It's had a range of designers from Christopher Kane right through to Kate Moss, and it doesn't seem Topshop will be slowing down anytime soon.
The highstreet store has just announced it will be teaming up with London Fashion Week designer Danielle Scutt who will produce a capsule collection of dresses, tops and accessories.
Danielle says: "I want the wearer to feel confident and inspired by wearing my clothes as I believe this collection will comfortably enable the Topshop customer to be elegantly and comfortably dressed from daybreak to nightfall."
This isn't the first time the two have collaborated, Danielle also designed a range for the store back in 2008, which as you can imagine was highly successful.
We say get yourselves down to Topshop as soon as the collection hits shelves on 7th March 2010.
It's good news for ladies that love their designer trainers because the Gucci Icon-Temporary Flash Sneaker Store is Coming to London.
The Pop-Up Sneaker Store steps into the capital in April with Gucci's limited edition range of sneakers, including the 'Gucci Ronson Sneaker' which has been designed by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini and award-winning musical artist Mark Ronson especially for us London girls.
The store will open for three weeks in Covent Garden's Seven Dials from the 22nd April 2010. It will feature 17 exclusive sneaker styles in the GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY collection, incorporating classic Gucci design signatures, such as the GG logo or a stylized version of the iconic Gucci red and green web detail.
Each design includes silver or gold metal dog tags as well as an embroidered 'Limited Edition' label inscribed inside the shoe. And for those of you who like to get personal there is also an opportunity to have your initials embossed onto a customised leather tag on the shoe laces. We'll see you there ladies.
Could the stringent modelling rules gradually be being broken down? Not only have we seen a huge array of plus size models on the catwalk (thanks Mark Fast) but it also now seems disabled women are getting a chance to pose in front of the camera too.
In a first for highstreet stores Debenhams has announced it will use 32 year old Shannon Murray who has been confined to a wheelchair, since breaking her neck as a teenager for its display window photography and also online. Joining her in modelling for the 'Principles by Ben de Lisi' range will be Kate Fullman, a size 16 model, Tess Montgomery, a petite 5''4 model, and Tokumbo Daniel, a size 10 model.
Michael Sharp, Debenhams' Deputy Chief Executive, said: "We cater for women of all shapes and sizes, young and old, non-disabled and disabled, so we wanted our windows to reflect this choice."
Could this be the catalyst for more stores to begin using "normal" girls? We really do hope so.

It seems everybody wants a bit of Lady Gaga, and even animaters are getting on the bandwagon.
According to the rumour mill Miss Piggy's character in the forthcoming Muppet movie, currently titled The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made, will be Lady Gaga-inspired.
"Miss Piggy ends up becoming like a Lady Gaga-esque character living in Europe," a source said. "Kermit ends up being destitute and the main characters find him living in squalor."
We're not sure if this is a massive compliment or an insult to the wacky Lady although we can't help but think she bought it on herself after arriving with Kermit the frog as her date to last year's Video music awards.
It's not unusual for a child of a fashion designer to follow in their parents footsteps. However, the twist in Oscar De La Renta's son's story is that he'll be going for highstreet rather than high end like his father.
Twenty five year old Moises has designed a limited edition range of T-Shirts for Mango, which are said to fuse his father's timeless aesthetic with his own youthful rock 'n' roll edge.
The designer told Vogue.com: "My inspirations for this collection were the traditional romantic themes: from pretty patchworks with summer flowers in sombre colours, such as rose, violet, grey and black, to graphic illusions which combine transparent effects, with shiny gems and adornments in between."
The t-shirts will go on sale this month and range from £25 to £45. We're sure they won't be hanging around for long though.

The long awaited Sex and The City 2 film is nearly here (well May anyway)and if you're like us you'll be counting down already.
However there's something else to get counting down for too now and that's a new fragrance by Sarah Jessica Parker. Out on 5 May, SJP NYC is said to take influence from the bright lights of New York City.
Thankfully this is just the bright bottle as the scent itself will be based around Wild Strawberrys, florals and cream.
Well as much as we love them, we wouldn't like to smell like a New York City cab.
It seems today is a hot day for model announcements and this time it's Kate Moss's turn to be in the limelight.
The supermodel has apparently been signed up to star alongside Sex and the City star, Mikhail Baryshnikov in a ballet, rumoured to be named Baryshnimoss.
The ballet will be shown at a fund-raising event and then as a gallery installation. However, it's not going to be an easy move from heels to points for Kate.
A source told the Daily Mail: "Kate has to be fit, healthy and looking good, so her late nights and heavy partying have to be reduced.
"I know that she is very happy to do that and has talked about wanting to get fit and healthy herself. It will be a movie made for them so she doesn't have to be a prima ballerina, even though she is having classes."
It's going to be a busy few months for model du jour Agyness Deyn.
The starlet has signed up to design for the Japanese branch of Barneys where she has helped to produce a capsule collection of 11 items. And Agy hasn't forgotten her green morals, a percentage of all the dresses, scarves and t-shirts from this will go to Go Green Go, which plants trees in inner Mongolia.
However, it doesn't end there. The model has also announced she'll be setting up an online fashion mag with former NME editor Fiona Byrne, who will act as editor-in-chief.
Naag.com will feature original photo and video content of Agyness, as well as articles on fashion, culture and travel written by their journalist friends.

Lady Gaga has been in London over the past few weeks, touring the country as part of her Monster Ball tour and many of her onstage outfits, designed by Armani are as wacky as we expected them to be.
However, it doesn't seem the Lady of fantastic fashion ever tones down her everyday outfits and it seems her funky fashion sense has become bolder since she's been staying in the UK.
She's been spotted in a range of outfits including a silver all in one with a lobster hat, as well as a red "robot style" bodysuit. But do you think she carries them off and would you adopt her style for a night out? View the gallery and let us know by leaving your comments in the box below.

Armani has revealed that its created several of Lady Gaga's looks for her Monster Ball tour that kicked off in the UK last week.
The designer who first dressed Lady Gaga for the Grammys last month said the looks included a floor-length black patent trench, sparkly structured body suit with enhanced curved shoulders, another body suit with a lobster effect on one sleeve, and a geometric mini-dress with a dramatic mirror effect.
Armani also said each look was finished off with matching shoes and sunglasses. .
Georgio Armani said: "We hear Lady Gaga's music everywhere we go, it is like a soundtrack of our times.
"In addition to her formidable songwriting skills, she is a modern fashion phenomenon."
We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
