Is Sandra Bullock a style icon? If we're honest it's a question that we've been pondering for a while.

Now we don't want to kick the actress when she's down - the rumour circulating at the moment is that she's pulled out of the UK premier of The Blind Side, amid claims her husband Jesse James cheated on her with a tattoo model - however we think it's something that needs to be decided.

There's no denying Sandra is a casual girl at heart, she told Instyle Magazine: "I feel sexiest when the person I love wakes up next to me and looks at me with love even if my hair looks like the dogs have been chewing on it."

Glamour also described the actress as "our patron saint of laid-back style."

And we have to agree Sandy pulls off the casual look really well. We think her jeans and black top combo, which she wore to her ceremony for her Hollywood walk of fame, was classic, yet chic.

So we've opted to have a her style on various red carpets.

We're sure you'll agree the actress shone at this year's Oscars in a vintage fabric silver frock, which we think was more than enough to earn her a fashion award.

And it seems this shade worked for her when she wore a grey Grecian style frock to the premier of Premonition in 2007.

However, grey tones haven't always worked to Sandra's advantage. At the German premier of The Proposal, the actress went for a very unflattering kimono style frock, which she teamed up with court shoes in the same colour, making her look more frump than fabulous.

And the frump theme carries on with her navy "grandma" style dress, complete with capped sleeves, which she wore to the Venice Film festival premier of "Infamous."

We can't deny she didn't look lovely in her red ethnic style frock at the 9th Annual costume designers Guild awards in 2007, but yet again it seems this shade let her down in 2009 when she wore, what looks like a red silk top and black skirt, with some horrible flat shoes (or flippers?).

So what's our verdict? Well as we've said before she pulls off the casual look well, but red red carpet style sometimes gets confused with her nan's dress up box. For that reason we've decided to give her a not too bad 7 out of ten.

But now we want you to tell us what you think. Is Sandy a style queen or a fashion faux pas?

SS2010 trends: Summer Sunglasses

Comments (0)

The sun's been shining all week, and after the dismal few months many of us are embracing it by dusting out those spring tops, and re-stocking our wardrobes with the latest spring trends (sorry credit card).

One essential item for this season is of course sunglasses. And although we know many of you are thinking it's a tad early, we've seen a good few ladies already sporting these to shield their eyes from the rays.

This season's sunnies are all about aviator styles, pinks and of course florals. Go with one of these styles to fit in with the trends, or opt for a classic designer pair, think Chanel, Vivienne Westwood or Madonna's latest range for D&G, that will keep you going throughout the next few years.

We've put together a gallery of sunnies to help you out, but remember, it's not cool to wear these when you're on the tube, in a club or anywhere else there's no sun. Unless of course you're a hip-hop star or rapper in training.

Let's face it, there is nothing normal about Lady Gaga.

She's got the quirkiest style going and an amazing voice to top it off. And it seems everyone is just as in awe as we are with her.

Far from shying away from the singer's funky fashion sense, designers such as Armani, Viktor & Rolf and of course, the late Alexander McQueen, have lined up to create outfits for this style icon. And they've also dressed her to perfection in terms of her style.

We've decided to put together a gallery of Ms G's most outrageous outfits to show how wacky she is. Let us know your favourite one by leaving your comments below.

Gallery: Retro summer dresses

Hurrah, the snow has melted and the sun is shining, meaning that we're finally at the beginning of spring. It may still be slightly too cold to think about bearing your legs, and arms at that, but we have a feeling the summer is going to be a hot one.

We've therefore decided to celebrate by putting together a gallery of retro summer dresses, for when that temperature hits the late double figures.

Retro prints are going to be huge this year, and were displayed by a number of designers at their SS2010 catwalk shows back in September.

They've also made a huge comeback in the past few years thanks to vintage styles and thrift shopping becoming a popular past time for fashionistas. So if you don't see anything you like in our gallery (of course we're sure you will) then head to your nearest charity shop or vintage store for the real retro thing.

Spring footwear: clogs and midi heels

Comments (0)

The daffodils are blooming, the days are getting longer and the new fashion season is officially here. We'll be putting spring in our step with some of the fantastic footwear hitting stores this month - in particular, our two new favourite styles, the clog and the midi heel.

Clogs were all over the catwalk, with designers including Betty Jackson, Chanel, PPQ and Felder and Felder all embracing the wooden shoe. Meanwhile, Prada, Marni, chloe and Missoni came over all kittenish with restrained mid-height sandals.

I've already extolled the virtues (and pitfalls) of both shoes here, so now it's time to convince you with a selection of the high street's finest. Kurt Geiger and ASOS have the best clogs we've seen, to bring a little Dutch charm to your denim and prairie dresses (see Alexa Chung for styling tips). Meanwhile, the midi heel is making an appearance in several guises; cone-shaped on sexy gladiator sandals, sturdy on simple pumps and in wedge form on 70s-inspired mumsie styles.

After several years of skyscraper heels and gladiator flats, these chunky and, dare we say it, sensible mid-height heels might be a shock to the system at first. But once you see how chic they look, we reckon you'll be springing (or clumping) into the new season in style.

Spring Trend: Beautiful bags

Comments (0)

Just when we thought the expensive "IT" bag had taken the hint and disappeared (well for a good few years anyway) it's decided to return once again to the shelves.

According to Selfridges its sales of designer bags have increased by a massive 60% over the past year with many handbags queens making a beeline for the Mulberry Alexa Chung inspired satchel bag. There's also been a huge increase in the much coveted Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Hillier' bag in bright purple and red City bag by Balenciaga.

However, we know, like us, many of you may not be able to fork out those thousands, or at least high hundreds you need to buy one of these bags so we've decided to have a little rebellion against the IT bag, giving you alternative spring 2010 trends instead with a much fairer price tag.

Spring trend: Fantastic florals

Comments (0)

The days are getting longer and brighter with many of us seeing a few days of sunshine. And of course, that can only mean one thing. Spring is on it's way.

We can't wait for the warmer days and brighter nights but most importantly the opportunity to wear the latest spring trends.

One trend that's going to be huge this season is florals, which were shown off by designers such as Christian Dior and Chanel at their SS2010 catwalk shows way back in September last year.

These prints have also been spotted on the likes of boho babe Sienna Miller as well as Chanel fanatic Alexa Chung and Sarah Jessica Parker.

So how do you wear, what could be busy, items of clothing? Well the trick here is not too go too overboard. Unlike the double denim trend that's hitting our wardrobes at the moment, florals should be teamed up with something plain. If you decide on a flowery top, then opt for jeans or a pastel skirt underneath.

And if you go for a skirt or on-trend culottes then pick a plain white or pastel coloured tee.

View our gallery below for our favourite floral picks.

Mothers Day is fast approaching and many of us will be looking for that perfect gift to surprise and wow our mums with on Sunday.

However with so many things around it's sometimes hard to know what to get. Do you go for something she can keep? Something she can wear? Or perhaps something you can both do together?

We've therefore put together a gallery to help you find the prefect pressie for your mum with our pick of the best gifts, that we think will really show her how much she means to you.

There were a range of different trends at this year's Oscars (metallic stood out for us here), but these also carried on into the after parties. We saw short, black and blue, as well as metaliic at many of these parties.

However one trend that really stuck out at the Vanity Fair after party was asymmetric necklines. These were sported by the likes of Victoria Beckham, who wore the same frock to Elton's event and the Vanity Fair party, Kate Beckinsdale, who looked stunning in an on-trend silver long dress and Jessica Simpson who spice up anotherwise plain black dress with this neckline.

View out gallery to see who else was on-trend with this style.

While Elton and his celebrity clan were living it up at his after party event, other celebrities partied the night away at the Vanity Fair event.

Amanda Seyfried, who thankfully changed out of her bridal red carpet dress, Katy Perry, Cameron Diaz, Amy Adams (who was notedly absent at the actual Oscars ceremony) all made an appearance.

And some, including Victoria Beckham (who wore the same dress) also mixed and matched their evenings attending both.

We've put together a gallery of the best dressed.

Oscars 2010 trends: Metallic dresses

Kathryn Bigelow.jpg

There were a few trends at this year's Oscar awards, notably blue, which was worn by Mariah Carey, Maggie Gyllenhaal and winner Mo'Nique.

Meryl Streep, Diane Kruger and Amanda Seyfried also flew the flag for white.

However, the biggest trend of the year has got to be metallics, which were worn by everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Miley Cyrus. These shades came in pale golds, dark golds and also silvers, which were worn by Kate Winslet and Oscar winner and Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow.

We put together a gallery of the best metallic dresses.

Oscars 2010: Best dressed

Comments (2)

We have to admit we were very impressed with the Oscar 2010 dresses, and for once in any awards event there were hardly any shockers.

However, we decided to whittle it down to six this year (and believe us it's taken alot of time to decide) or we'd have to put nearly every attendee in.

So who made the list and why? First on the list is Brit newcomer (and Lauren's fashion favourite) Carey Mulligan, who really stood out in a cutting edge Prada gown. However, she didn't let the red carpet glamour swallow her style. Her dress was embellished with tiny metal keys and pairs of scissors.

And it seems the Brits are on a style roll because coming up a close second isKate Winslet.

We also have to include Sarah Jessica Parker who wore a rather unique Chanel Couture frock. Ladies be warned, the "neck strap" trend will be coming to a highstreet store near you very soon.

However it would be unfair to give a special mention to Sandra Bullock, who picked up the award for Best Actress for her role in Blind Side, and for once showed she really had style in a vintage fabric beaded long dress.

Coming up forth and fifth are Meryl Streep, who showed that just like her Devil wears Prada role, she really has a sense of style in a white cowl neck dress, and Demi more who wore an on-trend nude ruffled frock.

Do you agree with our decisions? Leave your comments below and let us know.

We've been so excited about some actresses dresses this year and have been guessing for a while what each one will be wearing. One such celeb that kept our curiosity buzzing was brit beauty Kate Winslet, who always pulls off great looks at events.

And she didn't disappoint with her silverpanelled bodice and matching satin skirt. But it wasn't just the outfit. The actress also shone (quite literally) with her blonde locks, which she left down.

Other A-listers to grace the carpet were Twighlight star Kristen Stewart, who actually made a huge effort in a black fishtail frock. However, even this wasn't enough to put a smile on the sulky starlet's face.

However, Diane Kruger, who wowed in Chanel Couture and Cameron Diaz were there with smiles.

We've been wowed, dismayed, and surprised by the red carpet dresses during this year's Oscars, and we've bought you coverage as it happens.

However there's always the few (or in an event as big as this, many) that get away. So we'll be bringing you a range of galleries with a range of the dresses that graced the red carpet, as well as a round up of trends, and of course the best and worst dressed.

First up is a round up of some of the stars and their designer frocks.
