Milan Fashion Week: Prada

Comments (0)

New York, London and now Milan. Yes that's right Fashion Week has left our land and travelled across the sea to Italy, where this week it's the Italian designers chance to show off their creativity.

We can't wait, especially since Italy is originally the home to some of the world's renowned designers including Gucci, D&G and Prada.

Unfortunately we can't be there but we've found this amazing YouTube video of Prada's new collection, which we think really gives a good idea of the fashion we'll be expecting to see at Milan Fashion Week.

Hip-hop, ice princess and Arabian nights influences merge on the Missoni runway, as you can see in the video above. Kelly from TheBagLady says this is easily her favorite collection for Fall 09 so far. Check out her Milan accessories report, here.

CatwalkQueen has a gallery of Burberry Prorsum Fall 09 runway looks here, but don't be surprised if you recognize a few pieces! Apparently the Fall 09 collection borrows a few things from Pre-Fall.

Dolce & Gabbana's spring 2009 girl is not worried about the failing economy - she slept through the news of all the banks failing. The designers call this collection Pajama Baroque, a slightly upscale version of the name we gave it - sexy pajama party. More Upper East Side than Playboy Manion, naturalmente. This is one line that did not pander to woes about an economic crisis and we're happy for it because it's also one of the more exciting collections we've seen.

Star power doesn't hurt either. J.Lo, Dita Von Teese, models galore...they were all front row and on the runway.

Spring 2009 Wish List!

With a few more Milan shows and Paris still to go, there's only a bit more time to dream of spring 2009 before fall 2008 hits us hard! So I've compiled a list of my favorites from the runways we've seen so far. It's New York heavy since these pieces have been rolling around in my head all month long. I'm not sure if all these items all fit into one wardrobe or not, or if this list just reveals how fashion-schizo I really am. Whatever the case, this is my spring 2009 wish list!

In the front row at the Gucci Spring 2009 fashion show in Milan this week, view a runway gallery here, Rihanna talked about her globe trotting ways.

In Europe promoting her latest single, "Disturbia," the songstress next heads to Australia and New Zealand in October. "Then we're going to play around in the studio for a while," she said.

As for Gucci, Rihanna expressed her admiration for their charitable efforts. "I give them so much respect," she told WWD.

No wonder she wanted to be part of the house's first ad campaign in collaboration with UNICEF over the summer.

What does Roberto Cavalli have up his sleeve for S/S 2009. A bit of everything. Little bustier dresses, floaty chiffon maxi dresses, feather covered evening frocks...and not a dash of animal print in sight! We know he can't just make red carpet dress after red carpet dress, but we kind of wish he would. CLICK THE IMAGE TO VIEW THE CQ GALLERY.

Who needs to actually go to Milan when the videos are this good? YouTube user Fashiongirl22 has uploaded two videos that show the full Ferre catwalk show. Here's part one, click under the jump for part two. And enjoy!

ShinyStyle Gallery: Emporio Armani Spring 2009

Well, fashion week has moved to Milan and so does our attention. Unfortunately, we've seen nothing to really perk our interest yet!

The Emporio Armani girl is very covered up for spring 2009 with lots of long sleeves and pants. Oddly, this is combined with a lot of resorty pieces and swimwear. In this respect and more, the collection seems a little lost. The pants continued the trend of volume at the hips and - gasp - pleats! There were also cropped and harem-style offerings. All this despite the worldwide shortage of women who can pull-off these styles. One pair featured a slouchy, wide-leg silhouette and we just wish more had followed this pattern. Many of the pants were paired with rather matronly, oddly-cut jackets. As for red carpet gowns we love Emporio Armani for, there was only one standout - a beautiful butterfly number.

From our British bloggers at Catwalk Queen...

From London we head to Italy, where Roberto Cavalli opened Milan Fashion Week with his Just Cavalli spring/summer 2009 collection. Against a seascape backdrop, it was another unusual mix of leopard print, lace, leather and chiffon for the designer, but haven't we seen this all before?
