Christmas party outfits: The Blazer

Comments (0)

We're not sure about you, but the days when we could go to a winter party wearing next to nothing have long gone, and going out without a jacket is unthinkable.

While we know you'll want to show off that new dress or short sleeved top at this years Christmas party, remember, no matter how much you drink inside you'll still feel the cold once you leave.

We know big bulky jackets won't say much about an outfit but what about a blazer? Not only a key trend this winter, these jackets can be paired up with smart or casual dresses, skirts and jeans to accentuate your outfit and keep you warm in a stylish manner.

We've put together the top ten must haves for your Christmas party outfits.

Get the look: Sarah Harding's boots

Sarah Harding.JPGWe're not ashamed to admit that we love a little bit of Girls Aloud, especially their fun, flirty and sometimes saucy, fashion sense.

So when we spotted a picture of Sarah on the set of the new St Trinian's film (yes there's another one) wearing these boyish, rocker style boots we had to find out where they were from.

And we did just that. They're from Cat Footwear and cost £124.99.

We love the fact they are flat yet funky meaning we can still look good without worrying about how to manage the ice in heels this winter. Team them up with leggings (well you might freeze in Sarah's shorts) and a structured waistcoat for the ultimate winter look.

Runway to Reality: Balmain's leather military jacket

Balmain Leather Jacket.jpg

Balmain's leather military jacket, $7,045, is hot. Hot in a way that could be styled vintage victorian or New York nightspot. Which is, of course, the very best kind of hot. Since it's sold out on Net-a-Porter, I like to imagine this designer treasure is going to be worn and loved. This is the type of piece that people who can afford to are splurging on amidst the recession.

Michelle Trachtenberg and Emmy Rossum Sundance.jpg

While we have next month's New York Fashion Week to ogle the high-fashion outerwear straight off the runway, for more casual coats Sundance is the place to look.

Lumberjack checks have been in no short supply with both Michelle Trachtenberg and Emmy Rossum choosing cozy styles to keep warm while dashing between SWAG lounges and movie premieres.

For more tough-chic options from Kristen Stewart and Paris Hilton, keep reading.

Designer pick of the week leather jacket.jpg

We're always looking for a cool leather jacket. It's a luxe basic that can be incorporated into any wardrobe, so this Aminaka Wilmont leather biker jacket 50% off for $997.50 in the Net-a-Porter sale will probably go quickly.

What will make it go quicker? An extra 20% off. This week just enter the code WINTERUSA through Sunday, January 18, to get the extra savings on all clearance items.

An asymmetric closure and notch collar keep the style modern, while the cropped silhouette is classic. To keep it really fashion forward, avoid a full-on biker look and wear your leather jacket with the unexpected - jeans are the easy way out.

You don't often see celebrities in coats, what with so many events being in sunny California. Plus if we've learned anything from The Rachel Zoe Project, it's that stylists tell everyone to leave their coats in the car.

But a few celebrities have been caught all covered up in stylish toppers, like Zooey Deschanel below. We've rounded up the most fashionable coats seen on the red carpet and street lately, so keep reading to see how Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston and Katie Holmes keep warm.

50 gifts under $50 1-10.jpg [Click image to enlarge.]

Last week we showed you 10 gifts under $100 (and 20 under $200 the week before that!) but now it's time for our biggest and cheapest gift list yet. Check out the first ten items in our 50 under $50 roundup. Done your shopping? This doubles as a wish list for post-Christmas sales.

Ten fashionable gifts under $100

10 under $100 1.jpg

We wrapped up $20 gifts under $200 and are on to the $50-$100 price range. The first thing we looked for? A fab coat for gifting to your favorite girl. We like this Gap plaid belted coat, on sale for $94.99, because the plaid can be a little holiday, a little preppy or a little indie depending on the giftee's style. It's a little something different for the girl who usually sticks to pea coats.

Bargain POTW old navy jacket.jpg

This Old Navy canvas peacoat is perfect for today's rainy, dreary weather on the East Coast. If it's particularly chilly, the coat is roomy enough to layer under, and then you can just add a scarf on top.

While we chose the neutral bone color, there are also fun options like purple and green if you're looking for something more bold.

The best part? Right now it's only $25. Old Navy has up to 50 percent off all outerwear this week, and we're guessing prices will remain low once the cold snaps really hit.

If your part of the country is already snapping - there's wool versions of the peacoat under $50 as well.

Sports fan outfit pick.jpg

Tis the season for tailgating, homecoming and hitting those bleachers for your favorite team. Well, none of us here know too much about any of that, but so we hear.

If you're more of a sporty sort, we've got an outfit pick for you that doesn't slouch on style Especially if you're a fan of the newly crowned World Champion Phillies. But since most sports teams' colors fall into the primary wheel, it would be easy to sub out your favorite team's hue.

Get inspired by Jessica Alba's winter look

Jessica%20Alba.jpg

Jessica Alba is doing the talk show circuit this week promoting her creepy new film "The Eye."

While we might have to cover our eyes if we were to see said film, we can't get enough glimpses of a wide-eyed alba before her appearance on Letterman.

With fashion week imminent we're definitely scouring for chic ways to stay warm on city streets and this brown toggle-ish coat is a great one. And we love the peek of red at the bottom too.

Designer Pick of the Week: The Burberry Trench

Burberry%20trench.jpg

We're in the mood for classics with a twist today at Shiny (see the LaPrairie limited edition jeweled version of their covetted Skin Caviar Luxe Cream over at ShinyGloss!).

So we thought what's more classic than the Burberry trench? And since this is our most decadent pick of the week - why not show you the most expensive one: the $2,495 gold leather version.

There are 27 versions currently available on the Web site, not to mention the made to order trench coat service available at Burberry stores. Lucky patrons are able to select the style, color, warmer, lining, and collar.

Sundance%20stars.jpg

It may not be Cannes, but celebrities have come out to play at the Sundance Film Festival whether they have movies to promote or not. Sarah Jessica Parker, in town for the premiere of her film Smart People, keeps her urban cool even in Park City, Utah proving that you can take the girl out of the city, but ... you know. She works black pants tucked into very basic black boots - similar to Bijou Phillips look, far right. SJP breaks up all the black with a gray top and long necklaces. Bijou on the other hand went with a much darker gray top and an awesome short jacket. In the middle, Jessica Alba is thinking big: big hair and big jacket anyway. Guess she wants to keep her baby bump warm and out of sight.
