Lacoste catwalk at New York fashion week

Comments (0)

With London Fashion Week just around the corner, the excitement is building up to see what designers are planning out for us to wear next season.

If you're a keen fashionista then you'll already know New York fashion Week has been going for a few weeks now, and although we couldn't be there to give you the latest news and reviews we have had a scout around to see what other people have to say.

We love this video, which shows Lacoste's new season looks. As you will see, the brand known for being sporty and preppy has stuck closely with this style this season and we're sure you'll agree, they've done it well.

We love the white, netball skirt, which can be teamed up with a pair of plimsolls for the ultimate back to school sports look.

New York Fashion Week: Zac Posen Fall 09 Gallery

Zac Posen's Fall 2009 fashion show was one of the most-talked about of fashion week. It wasn't just the beautiful couture-level clothes. And it wasn't only the amazing model watching, yes, Coco Rocha, Lily Donaldson, Alek Wek and Sasha Pivovarova were all there. (I'll admit to squeeling several times.) But it was the show itself with 5 baby grand pianos on the runway played by the 5 Browns, a brother/sister piano troupe, and the glitz and glamour Posen - and we - love.

I already gave you a peek at the Vivienne Tam Fall 09 presentation, but wanted to share some of the exclusive content provided to the press via blogging stations at the event. As you can see, guests were able to report live from the show and peruse a lookbook and video presentation on the desktop of the available high-tech HP computers.

New York Fashion Week: Ports 1961 Fall 2009

Ports 1961 collage.jpg

Ports 1961 participated heavily in the trend of neutrals, but unfortunately all the beige combined with rougher textures just led to a sort of sack-cloth look to the clothing. When designer Tia Cibani went bright with hot pink saris and black and pink coats it wasn't much more successful. There were some lovely pieces in the collection, though, when Cibani paid more attention to tailoring. A jasmine lace choli dress, and a black on black Nigella damask stepped up the style a notch and had front row face Olivia Palermo (see pic after the jump) looking like she might actually wear a piece.

Vivienne Tam chose one of my favorite presentation styles to showcase her Fall 2009 collection. Models were perched on blocks where viewers could approach each piece to fully appreciate all the details and take everything in. It was especially nice since there was so much concept behind the collection. It was inspired by the concept of nothingness and the Asian philosophy of creating an empty space that gives way to something new and unexpected.

Carmen Marc Valvo video, as promised! Check out our gallery from the CMV cocktail party here.

The Carmen Marc Valvo cocktail party Wednesday night was fabulous, of course, but the clothes were still the stars studded around the room on mannequins both live and artificial. It was all red-carpet-worthy eveningwear - maybe we'll see a piece on Sunday? A video presentation was playing throughout the evening, which you can watch here. Plus check out our gallery below, including a snap of Carmen!

New York Fashion Week - Brian Reyes Fall 09 barefoot.jpg

Forget walking in ridiculous sky-high heels, models at the Brian Reyes show kicked off their specially-designed Manolo Blahniks for the finale and went barefoot instead. After several stumbles and three models stopping to take off their stilettos, they forfeited footwear all together to close the show. Besides this misstep (ha!) the collection itself was a cohesive display of tailored separates including belted dresses, stone-coloured suits, bronze jumpsuits and mulberry shifts.

Oscars scoop straight from Mark Badgley and James Mischka!

Badgley Mischka Andrea.jpg

Talking to Mark Badgley and James Mischka today at the launch of their new fragrance, Couture, they let slip some Oscar fashion scoopage! They *are* dressing one of the best actress nominees - so it's Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Melissa Leo, Meryl Streep or Kate Winslet. They also said the actress in question does have the fragrance and perhaps hinted that she would be part of the advertising campaign.

"We think it's important that the Oscars remain important and aspirational," James Mischka said. "If they all wear black strapless dresses it will be sad."

The guys were super sweet, and I just loved The Fall 09 Badgley Mischka collection earlier this week, so they've definitely earned a fan in me. Be sure to check ShinyGloss for more on the fragrance!

New York Fashion Week: Tory Burch backstage gallery

Tory Burch is smart about this recession business. She didn't sacrifice the luxe factor for her Fall 09 collection, far from it, she seems to have upped the sophistication and chic styling. But a big part of her collection? The affordable statement necklace.

"We spent a lot of time on costume jewelry, shoes and handbags," she said backstage before her show. "[The jewelry] is all made by hand and will be available in stores and on the Web site."

I love that, because a lot of times the jewelry for a show is one-of-a-kind and can't be purchased, or certainly can't be purchased by the average jane. What is TB thinking for fall 09?

"My favorite piece for fall is ths soft white jacket with feather detail ... the skinny leather pants I love ... every look in [this collection] I would wear myself."

Check out tons of bags, boots, jewelry and fashion in our gallery by clicking on the image below!

If there's one thing American fashion designers know, it's how to run a successful business. To hold her own during the recession, Donna Karan stuck to what she does best for A/W 2009. Sharp shoulders, beautifully cut separates and a mixture of great tailoring and artfully draped pieces created a wardrobe of timeless pieces that work together in various ways for different looks. It may not be new, but it's practical and beautifully executed. Cheers to Coutorture for the video.

New York Fashion Week: Anna Sui Fall 09

Kim and the Catwalk Queen gang have been waiting eagerly for the arrival of Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe at New York Fashion Week and here they are! The duo, alongside Lily Donaldson, stormed the runway at the Anna Sui Fall 2009 show last night. The collection itself was a romantic, feminine affair inspired by 'reading lots of Proust', according to the designer. Silk bohemian fabrics and early French velvet coats held such drama that one might have been forgiven for thinking they were watching a theatrical performance. This was my fashion week buddy Melissa's favorite show of the week, and she's gone to all the biggies.

Tonight was a busy night but I stopped backstage at Tory Burch (and met the lady herself!) between the Carmen Marc Valvo party and Vivienne Tam presentation. A style blogger's got to sleep sometime, so I will leave you waiting for all that fabulous fashion but in the meantime check out the Tory Burch beauty gallery over on ShinyGloss.

New York Fashion Week: Marchesa Fall 09 Gallery

For lots of pretty, floaty, fabulous frocks it is imperative that you swing by the Marchesa show during New York Fashion Week. Sticking two fingers to the economy was co-designer Georgina Chapman, who didn't disappoint in offering up an array of delicate whimsical creations for eveningwear. Fairytale-inspired red carpet gowns were aplenty in layered tulle and draped Grecian-style jersey. These filtered out into ruffled candy cocktail dresses and sparkly black and red minidresses, all tied up in a satin bow. As always it is a true pleasure to watch the fruits of Marchesa's labor, and take a moment to escape the realities of life. And with Sir Philip Green lurking around the room, one can't but help wonder whether we might see a Marchesa/Topshop collaboration in the future.

New York Fashion Week: Tibi Fall 2009 video

Brights with black told one of the color stories at the Tibi Fall 2009 fashion show, in contrast with the primary-colored, hippie-chic flower child dresses that flowed down the runway next. Is this the '70s or the '80s? And is it fall or spring, for that matter? A girl would be mighty chilly in some of those thin dresses.
