New York Fashion Week Gallery: Halston S/S 2009

By Gemma on September 10th, 2008

The revived Halston label is enjoying nothing but infamy at the moment. With the likes of Harvey Weinstein, Rachel Zoe and Tamara Mellon turning the cogs in the background, you’d expect the label to be delivering something very special. But following the departure of designer Marco Zanini (and the fact Zoe doesn’t seem to care any more) the future seems uncertain despite the fact previous collections sold well. This Fashion Week, instead of a traditional runway show, models lounged around in pieces that harked back to the Halston heydays of the 1970s. The flowing maxi dresses were definitely pretty, but I can’t help thinking there was nothing that couldn’t be found in vintage shops for a lot less money…CLICK THE IMAGE TO VIEW THE GALLERY and decide for yourself.

Though nobody will be winning any design awards for safe the luxe-Western collection, it does what it says on the tin, tying in nicely with the theme we’ve seen in the Justin / Erin Wasson teaser campaign. I actually thought the menswear was much stronger than the womenswear, but there were some great leather jackets, metallic scarves and slouchy bleached denims on offer for the fairer sex…

By Kimberley Foster on May 13th, 2008

diorcruise09ss1.jpg

As we mentioned yesterday, John Galliano is currently over here to collect an award from the Savannah College of Art, as well as to present his spring/summer ’09 cruise collection for Christian Dior. Last night, the designer took to the catwalk at Gustavino’s in New York wearing his usual outlandish dress to close a show that dazzled in colours, embellishments and animal prints. But was it just a rehashing of his last cruise collection?

New York Fashion Week: Preen

By Catwalk Queen on February 4th, 2008

preennyaw091.jpg
Our British sister blog Catwalk Queen gives us their take on the Preen A/W 2008-09 show…

Making their second New York Fashion Week outing, Preen represented the Brits at their autumn/winter show yesterday. Storming out onto the runway first was model Lily Donaldson in a grungey plaid cocoon jacket that I have instantly fallen in love with. Designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi took inspiration from Kurt Cobain and Kim Basinger in the film 9 1/2 Weeks to create oversized coats and jumpsuits.
