Although 2011 bought us some great new designers and celebrity fashions, it was also a sad year for music and style fans around the world as we said a goodbye to the talented Amy Winehouse.
Her soulful voice, statement beehive and tattoos as well as her ballet pumps will always be remembered in the fashion world as will her preppy chic look, which of course has been channelled in her Fred Perry collaboration.
To mark the end of the year and pay tribute to the talented star we’ve put together a gallery of her style.

Notting Hill Carnival 2011
There was some speculation over the past few weeks whether or not the much-loved Notting Hill Carnival would be cancelled this year because of the recent riots across the UK – but we are so glad they went ahead with it. Besides the fact that to cancel Carnival would be punishment for everyone over the actions of a small few, it’s also an incredible, creative event that brings Londoners together.
As a lover of the theatrical, I’ve always been secretly a little bit obsessed with the carnival’s explosion of feathers, sparkles, colour and gem-encrusted detailing – it appeals to my taste in all things OTT. One group of carnival-goers stomped the streets of West London in sizzling red, orange and yellow feathers with contrasting blue beaded details on their head-dresses while another group wore lime green and hot pink bodysuits instead. There’s one thing to be sure about – there’s no time to be shy and retiring at Notting Hill Carnival.
Check out the gallery for some of the photographs taken from Notting Carnival, and try to get inspired. Maybe with a few more feathers and spangles in our daily lives, the world would be a better place.

Kerry Katona looked healthy and more than a bit fabulous in this dramatic black silk dress with a ruffled train. We love her quiff, too
GOD BLESS CHANNEL 5. Just when you thought that TV would never, ever get good again, they went and bought Big Brother off Channel 4. Now we can watch celebrities showering together again.
It’s an interesting mix of stars for Celebrity Big Brother ’11 (though of course we use the word ‘star’ extremely loosely). The Only Way is Essex star Amy Childs went into the house looking very dolled up in a sparkling corset dress with killer heels, as did everyone’s favourite messed-up actress Tara Reid, who wobbled into the BB house in a very skimpy black silk and lace dress.
Also leaving little to the imagination was the ex Baywatch star Pamela Bach-Hasselhoff, who struggled to pull her body-con black and gold dress over her bum as she climbed the stairs to the front door of the BB house. We were pleasantly surprised, however, by politician’s wife Sally Bercow, who looked quite classy and elegant in a royal blue off-the-shoulder number.
We were happy to see our Kerry Katona looking healthy and happy in a dramatic black silk dress with a long train – and we loved her quiff hairdo, which is really on-trend right now. Good luck with your first task, Kezza!
When it came to the men, some of them came good and some of them let us down. The male model Bobby Sabel looked like a French film star in a slouchy navy overcoat and fawn-coloured chinos, while the Corrie actor Lucien Laviscount looked very smart in a salmon-coloured tailored jacket with a crisp shirt and slacks.
The Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty, who’s our favourite by far (I like the way he says “womaaaaan”) scrubbed up in a pale blazer with an open shirt and his best jeans. He looked a little bit like the Hoff, actually.
Jedward looked absolutely ridiculous, as usual, in tiger-striped tuxedos (why? Why?). And as for Darryn Lyons, or “Mr Paparazzi” as he likes to be known… well, words fail me. I know that he’d probably made his gold “CELEBRITY IS MONEY” jacket specially for his BB entrance, but I really wish he hadn’t.

Fruit Print Dress
Everyone went crazy for Stella McCartney's tropical fruit-printed dresses and blazers - this copycat version from Very.co.uk is an absolute steal.
Spring is definitely, finally here (I wish for good) and it’s time to ditch our fail-safe slouchy black sweaters and leggings for something a bit more cheerful. And what better to celebrate this gloriously unexpected weather with but some eye-wateringly pretty prints, just crying out to be worn in the rare British sunshine?
There were prints as far as the eye could see at the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalks. Breathtakingly pretty and feminine florals at Erdem, both seen on prints and stitched onto hand-made lace, shockingly bright leaf-prints at House of Holland, a sumptiously tropical offering from Stella McCartney of dress and separates printed with images of fruit.. I could go on.
Fashion prints have never been so sexy, so carefree, fun and happy, and the wonderful thing is that the high-street has wisely cottoned on to this. In the gallery above is our very favourite printed pieces available from the high street right now – so get stuck right in. This is a trend that excludes absolutely no one – all you need is the confidence to wear something eye-grabbing and fun, and there’s a piece out there to suit absolutely everyone.

Yves Saint Laurent A/W 2011
It’s been a flurry of big names scheduled to show their collections over the past few days, and as Paris Fashion Week nonchalantly draws to a close we have to say that Yves Saint Laurent have been one of our favourites. With a front row collection of stars such as Ronnie Wood, Jane Birkin and Lou Doillon, the atmosphere was already so cool that it didn’t matter if the clothes were any good or not – but any road, they were better than good. They were brilliant.
Much like Galliano’s show earlier this week, Miss Marple-esque tweed skirt suits and fur muffs were present again in the YSL show, nipping in waists and demurely falling above the knee for an outcome that managed to be both vampish and demure. If you’re looking for a good indication of what sort of outerwear to be looking out for once summer has been and gone, look no further than this collection for a strokeable assortment of sharp double-breasted paddington-style coats, which, if you can afford it, will look incredible dressed down with skinny jeans come winter.
Though on first appearances the whole collection may have seemed rather prim, take a second look and check out the PVC and studded detailing around coat collars and necklines, and gold chains used as adornments for dresses and shoes. We absolutely fell in love with the fashion house’s sharp, boxy PVC sleeveless jacket, which managed to give a nod to both the golden age of punk and the possible future of fashion. We love.
Check out the gallery above to see the rest of the photos from the YSL show.

It was a return to cool, slouchy bohemian style yesterday at Kenzo’s A/W 2011 show. Famed for their explosively vibrant florals and bold colours, this season saw the label working in more muted tones of dark blues, browns and creams that we think will work perfectly come winter.
Behind a huge lit-up display of what seemed like half folk art, half electric doilies, models came down the runway in long floaty hemlines that fluttered around leather studded ankle boots. Maxi-dresses in trademark Kenzo florals were worn with slouchy wax gilets and fur hoods. Combining the heritage trend with a hard, studded edge, we think we can spy a boho revival just around the corner.
This season’s collection was a lot more subtle than the last, with the label opting for more understated palettes in the fabric – olive green and black were favourites – and surprisingly pretty peekaboo hints of lace, which skirted along hemlines and necklines, showing a feminine side to the fashion house’s approach to design that we haven’t seen before. The maxi dress trend looks like it’s going to be here to stay for a fair while longer, if Kenzo’s collection is anything to go by – we predict that come Autumn we’ll all be teaming delicate floor-length dresses with casual boots and wax Barbour-style jackets.

It was always going to be difficult to write an unbiased report of yesterday’s runway show featuring the A/W collection for John Galliano’s self-titled diffusion line – the whole world is extremely angry at the volatile designer right now for the unjustifiable anti-Jewish remarks he was heard to make last week. With an impending court trial and many influential friends turning their back on him, the future of his career is extremely uncertain.
All events considered, the show was downsized to a more intimate setting for just editors and buyers to enjoy. What is sad about the whole affair is that this is a collection that showed just how good a designer Galliano truly is – the whole collection was a glamorous, heady mix of 1930s silhouettes and opulent fabrics. His talents as a couture designer have never been so obvious as now, as models came down the runway in soft cloche hats, furs and nipped-in skirt suits, lending the show a “silent movie actress” feel. However, nothing that we saw from the designer this season blew our minds – known as he is for radical fashion and innovative design, the collection played it a little too safe for our tastes. That’s not to say that we didn’t like the collection. The luxurious setting of chintz furniture, silks and flowers reminded us of Brideshead Revisited and worked perfectly with the clothes.
All in all, it was a pretty collection, full of the dark glamour that Galliano has made his trademark, but as we looked at the runway photos we didn’t feel the earth move. And considering that this could be the last show he ever puts on, due to the racist and reprehensible remarks that he’s made, he’s gone out with less of a bang and more of a subdued mutter.

The red carpet frenzy has already begun with A-listers braving the rain for the BAFTAs.
First up on our best dressed list is Kimberley Walsh who looks absolutely stunning in an on-trend pale gold sleeved dress made specially for her by Ashley Isham.
With her loose wavy hair and bright red lipstick we think this starlet really stands out.
