Alexa Chung is dating Theo from Hurts

By emilyborrett on September 15th, 2011

Alex Turner had better get back on the dating scene soon, because his newly exed love Alexa Chung is already in a sneaky relationship with Theo Hutchcraft from the electro Brit band Hurts.

We have to admit we were a bit choked when we found out that Alexa and Alex had called it a day on their relationship – fashion’s best couple!- but we like Theo’s style, so maybe he will be a reasonable substitute for Miss Chung.

A source leaked to the Sun newspaper: “It’s still early days but Theo is really keen on Alexa. They met at the American music festival Coachella in April and Theo has been spending a lot of time in New York, where Alexa lives. They share the same interests – music and fashion – and get on really well. But the relationship is still raw and they’re not putting too much pressure on each other to make it work at this stage.”

Awww, you guys. Now your relationship isn’t a secret anymore, can we see some his’n'hers matching denim outfits, please? Thanks.

Pins and Needles Faux Leather Collar Coat

One of the up-sides is having to say goodbye to summer is picking out a cool new toasty coat to keep you warm when winter shows up. Luckily, this Autumn/Winter was all about coats so there are loads of different outerwear trends to dip your toes into. One of our favourite coat styles, thanks to Dolce & Gabbana, is the androgynoustrend – and if you want to try this trend out with any conviction then you’re gonna want a boyfriend coat.

I completely love the slouchy, wide-shouldered style of the boyfriend coat because it gives a knowing nod to the sexy power-dressing era of the 80s. If you want to completely do it like a dude then team your sexy new coat with a pair of super-skinny jeans and brothel creepers with slicked-back hair – or if dressing like an eighties male pin-up isn’t your bag, the boyfriend coat will work just as well with a pretty minidress and heels for a cool masculine/feminine balance.

Our absolute favourite coat is the Pins and Needles coat from Urban Outfitters, which is dark wool with a leather collar for a nasty hard edge. All you need is a crisp high-necked shirt and a pencil skirt for an outfit that is both edgy and wearable at the same time.

Check out the gallery above for our top 5 boyfriend coats.

Designer spotlight: Jeremy Scott

Autumn/Winter 2002

I’m in kind of a silly mood today so I’m going to take a look back at the works of one of fashion’s more out-there designers: Jeremy Scott, a label which combines a glorious blend of grotesque cartoon imagery with horror references and splashes of zinging colour. If you’re a fellow lover of kitschy bad taste like I am then J-Scott is probably a designer that’d be right up your alley.

I love Jeremy Scott’s designs because they’re a big, glittery scream-in-your-face departure from the austerity and seriousness of Fashion Week. The likes of Chanel, Versace, Dior and co will always be special and inspirational to me, but Jeremy Scott’s collections are somewhere between a cheesy 80s horror movie and an episode of The Flintstones, and I’m afraid that when my good and bad tastes do battle, the bad tastes always win. I know that I’m not alone in this – Katy Perry and Rihanna love him too.

In the gallery above are some early examples of Jeremy Scott’s work along with his more recent, ridiculous collections featuring the likes of Pixie Geldof on the catwalk. Check out our favourite Jez moments and let us know whether you’re a lover of his work or a hater.

A/W trend alert: Biker jackets

By Andrea Petrou on August 31st, 2010

With the days turning and the wind picking up, plus tomorrow officially becoming autumn, it’s time to start packing away those bikinis, shorts and dresses and getting into the autumn fashion.

There’s a great deal to be excited about this season. The 80s trend is sticking around, puff sleeves will be making a comeback (as demonstrated by Paul Costelloe) and of course there’s the camel colours we can look forward to.

However, one trend that we’re really pleased is here to stay from the summer is the leather biker jacket. Worn by celebs such as Rihanna and Taylor Momsen, this jacket will form a staple part of any girls wardrobe for the first few months and thanks to Burberry’s fur and aviation trend, into the winter too.

We’ve picked out our favourite five.

ShinyStyle at LFW: Charles Anastase

By Andrea Petrou on February 20th, 2010
Charles Anastase Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2010

70s chic and outrageous 80s were the order of the runway at Charles Anastase, with the usually controversial designer bringing wide legged trousers and super high platform boots (we don’t envy those models) onto the runway.

However, what really stood out the most was the designers use of weird and wonderful colour combinations, which was a huge nod to the 80s. We were presented with an aqua blue dress teamed with red tights (suddenly our green dress and purple tights doesn’t seem too outrageous) as well as a salmon tailored 80s style collarless jacket with a maroon pencil skirt.

These were followed by 70s hippy style blanket coats as well as what looked like lovely and warm knitted skirts, which would have been perfect to be wearing once we were out again on the cold London streets.
