Lady Gaga has “worshipped” Madonna her whole life

By Andrea Petrou on July 6th, 2011

Lady Gaga has “worshipped” Madonna her whole life.

The ‘Edge Of Glory’ hitmaker – whose musical style has been compared to that of the legendary singer – explained she also feels “connected to and inspired by” the likes of Barbra Streisand, Cher and Blondie.

She told The Advocate magazine: “They’re my sisters. I feel so connected to Madonna in a lot of ways, and I feel connected to Barbra, and I feel connected to Cher and Blondie and all of the women who came before me.

“I worshipped them my whole life, and I would never be where I am today without all of them to inspire me. I feel so grateful that I have such strong women to look up to.”

It would appear the feeling is mutual for Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, who recently praised Lady Gaga for bring a breath of fresh air to the US music scene.

She said: “Gaga is truly talented and slightly mad. I find her encouraging.

“It’s such a conservative period in the US. We have even had attempts at censorship, which I find appalling and terrible. Artists like Gaga are necessary during periods like this.”

Debbie Harry often wears her old stage outfits

By Andrea Petrou on May 12th, 2011

Debbie Harry often wears her old stage outfits.

The Blondie singer revealed she keeps her a lot of her clothes she has worn for performances over the years and especially loves the Day-Glo creations by designer Stephen Sprouse.

She said: “It’s all in a trunk. Some if it’s hanging, most of it’s lying down. I have all the Stephen Sprouse clothing packed in a box – several boxes actually. Some of that I still wear. It’s all such a mish-mash.”

Debbie also revealed she allowed a Barbie doll to be made in her likeness only because the “remarkable” Cher had previously had one made.

She told Stylist magazine: “It was a nice offer and besides, Cher has done it. I was shocked at first. I always envisioned Barbie as being very middle of the road, very straight and initially I think that we were considered counter-culture and sort of nasty and to be taken in by the Barbie thing.I mean, times have changed, we’ve come full circle – now punk is so embraced and accepted by society.”

Full Circle launches 80s fashion range

By Andrea Petrou on September 10th, 2009

80 TOP full circle.JPGWhat were you doing in the 80s? I was just a tot then, but I remember my mother wearing her 80s shoulder pad clothes and wishing that I was old enough to be able to get into some of them.

I think the fashion gods must have heard my silent prayers because this year the 80s look is back with a vengeance, with many catwalk shows displaying the fashions I wished I could wear when I was a child.

And Full Circle is just one of them.

Its range of tops and dresses come in different colours including red, black and blue. Match them up with a pair of washed out jeans and heels for an authentic 80s night out.

We’ll be bringing you more 80s fashion in our gallery tomorrow.
