A little preview of Abaete for Fall 09

By Andrea Thatcher on February 4th, 2009

Abaete sketch.jpg

My New York Fashion Week calendar is still in the “Oh, look at that, I’ll have quite a few shows to get to” stage and has not yet reached overscheduled, freakout-inducing madness. But one show we at Shiny always make sure to get to, with our backstage access courtesy of Redken, is Abaete.

This year Elaine will be covering the Abaete Fall 09 show, and lucky her! Daria Werbowy favorite Priestbird will be performing at the show, so maybe the model will be in the front row?

The girls at Fashionista also go their hands on a sketch, above, from designer Laura Poretzky of one of the collection looks.

Looks fab to us!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2009: Behind the Scenes at Abaete

We saw more play between body-concious designs and fuller, more billowy proportions at Abaete today. With tight-fitting dresses and what can only be considered biker shorts filling out a major part of the collection, it was a little difficult to resolve those styles with the more doll-like proportions of some pieces. The dress above is one of those that managed to pull off the more curve-hugging shape without looking like activewear.

For pictures, more of my backstage experience and an exclusive runway video, keep reading!

New York Fashion Week: backstage at Abaete

We were backstage at Abaete today to get you up close and personal details that you’d never catch on the runway. We chose some of our favorite looks to take you from the fittings via polaroids used on the day of the show, to an in-person glimpse of the clothes, to what they looked like on the catwalk. The beauty team talked about a combination of strength and beauty, and the theme certainly seemed to extend to the clothes. Enjoy our little behind-the-scenes rundown with many more pictures after the jump, and head over to ShinyGloss later this afternoon for interviews with the hair stylist from Redken and the makeup artist from NARS.

New York Fashion Week: backstage at Abaete

By Andrea Thatcher on September 5th, 2007

Catching only a glimpse at the fashions, as I was invited backstage by Redken, I was blown away by the naturally beautiful and very talented Abaete fashion designer, Laura Poretzky, and her elegant Jackie-O-esque couture. Indicative of Laura’s own lady-like-with-an-edge aura, the designs were very feminine and form-fitting, including curve-hugging halters and dresses, some accented with an oversized flower. Her major color scheme for spring was turquoise and white, as well as lots of navy and black trim and thin black-and-white stripes. As a huge fan of Jackie-O and retro-chic style, I absolutely adore this collection.

Fall ’07 is all about the proper woman in hats and gloves

By Andrea Thatcher on September 5th, 2007

marc%20jacobs.jpgOn fall runways from Marc Jacobs to Proenza Schouler, long gone were the little-girl looks and grungy street wear of past seasons, instead, this fall, women are women. Or really, women are women from the 1920s to 1940s–in hats and gloves, with defined waists. There was Gatsby-esque cloche hats at Proenza Schouler and Marc Jacobs, and bucket styles at MaxAzria and Abaeté. Gloves ranged in length from wrist to elbow, some even fingerless, in a variety of colors…
