Hailee looked like romantic 1950s perfection in this soft-pink full-skirted prom dress with a classic updo, at the Academy Awards this year
Is it just us here at ShinyStyle, or is all the talent in Hollywood getting younger and younger? Justin Bieber has had a film made about him when his voice hasn’t even broken yet, Willow Smith is storming the charts at age 11 and we’ve just realised that not only is the teenage True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld an amazing actress, but she’s already got a Hollywood wardrobe good enough to rival any older actress’.
We love that unlike other young girls in the limelight like Miley Cyrus, who have already gone down the vomit-inducing sexy route with tight dresses and big hair, Hailee closely follows the trends and wears what suits her. The 14-year old actress has already developed a strong sense of her own style, combining romantic cocktail dresses with fiercely high heels and vintage-inspired prim blouses and power-pencil skirts.
We especially adored her outfit that she wore to the Academy Awards this year, as she donned a gently sparkling peach chiffon 50s prom dress with nude satin peeptoe heels and an elegant updo for an outfit that wouldn’t have looked out of place at a couture gala sixty years ago.
Miu Miu are particularly fond of young Hailee – maybe it’s because she’s always spotted wearing their designs, or maybe it’s just because she’s a pretty young thing, but she’s now the face of their new campaign. Jealous? Us? Naaaah.

We’re big fans of Kristen Stewart over here at ShinyStyle. Her choice of eveningwear is kooky – we loved the white sequined Chanel dress she wore to the Baftas and the navy taffeta frock she donned for this year’s Oscars – but we adore her daytime look, which is right up our street. The Twighlight actress opts for jeans, t-shirts and casual jackets, while still looking cool in Converse trainers.
She also opts for leggings, which of course we all know are still a big fashion over here (although we hope with the summer months approaching this trend will begin to fade out).
So imagine how pleased we were when we found out we could get the exact grey boyfriend style tee the star was snapped wearing on her way to American talk show Regis & Kelly where she was promoting her new film The Runaways.
It’s called Milla and it’s by American company Market. You can buy it here for a bargain $33.
Team up with PVC leggings and trainers a la Kristen, and don’t forget to add that statement scowl.

Like with the Oscar‘s ceremony we were a little bit hard pressed to find a worst dressed celebrity at the Vanity Fair Oscar 2010 party. Katie Price stuck to Elton’s do, and other celebs really dressed for the occasion.
However, there is always one that gives us an excuse for a little “what was she wearing” comment and we’re sorry to say that these words have fallen on Selma Blair.
We don’t mind the sparkly frock, but the length is a little bit confused for us, sitting too far under the knee and too high up to make it full length. We also think the blazer the actress has teamed it up with is too heavy for the outfit.
And we understand that it was cold, but Selma, really, you’re already wearing a blazer, you don’t need a scarf. Take a look around you and have a think about all those ladies who have braved the freeze without even a shawl.

There were a range of different trends at this year’s Oscars (metallic stood out for us here), but these also carried on into the after parties. We saw short, black and blue, as well as metaliic at many of these parties.
However one trend that really stuck out at the Vanity Fair after party was asymmetric necklines. These were sported by the likes of Victoria Beckham, who wore the same frock to Elton’s event and the Vanity Fair party, Kate Beckinsdale, who looked stunning in an on-trend silver long dress and Jessica Simpson who spice up anotherwise plain black dress with this neckline.
View out gallery to see who else was on-trend with this style.

While Elton and his celebrity clan were living it up at his after party event, other celebrities partied the night away at the Vanity Fair event.
Amanda Seyfried, who thankfully changed out of her bridal red carpet dress, Katy Perry, Cameron Diaz, Amy Adams (who was notedly absent at the actual Oscars ceremony) all made an appearance.
And some, including Victoria Beckham (who wore the same dress) also mixed and matched their evenings attending both.
We’ve put together a gallery of the best dressed.

Many people are pitching Katie Price (AKA Jordan) and Victoria Beckham against each other in the fashion stakes at the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards.
After all, they’ve been well publicised enemies for many years now. However, we’re not sure who would say Ms Price looked good in her frock, let alone beat a fashionista.
Now don’t get us wrong we generally don’t have a problem with Katie Price (we’re not team Pete or team Price t-shirt wearing girls), however, we have to say that her frock has got to be the worst one of the Elton John after party night.
To be fair on the model, mum and business woman, she kept her (er) assets covered up proving she can be elegant, however, the shiny fabric and huge flowers make her look like a mermaid who got lost in a poppy field.
We think that’s 5-1 to Victoria, Jordan.

Celebrities such as Mel B, Hayden Panettiere well as Victoria Beckham all flocked to one of the most well known events of the year, and dare we say, some of those dresses were even even better than those found on the Oscar Red carpet.
We’ve put together a gallery of the best. Let us know if you agree and who you think deserves the overall “best dressed” .

There were a few trends at this year’s Oscar awards, notably blue, which was worn by Mariah Carey, Maggie Gyllenhaal and winner Mo’Nique.
Meryl Streep, Diane Kruger and Amanda Seyfried also flew the flag for white.
However, the biggest trend of the year has got to be metallics, which were worn by everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Miley Cyrus. These shades came in pale golds, dark golds and also silvers, which were worn by Kate Winslet and Oscar winner and Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow.
We put together a gallery of the best metallic dresses.

Earlier today we set about predicting what Helen Mirren would be wearing for this year’s Oscars. Looking back at her previous trends, which screamed elegance and bared her trademark sheer sleeves we thought we’d definitely see these trends tonight. We also predicted she would be wearing Lacroix.
Well, we we’re right about the frock. Like fellow Brit Kate Winslet, Helen also opted for silver, but went for a straight dress, covered with a layer of organza and, yes, you guessed it beaded sheer sleeves.
However, we weren’t so bang on with the designer. Instead of Lacroix Helen opted for Badgley Mischka, a designer she is familiar with.
Well, we suppose one out of two isn’t bad is it?

We have to admit we were very impressed with the Oscar 2010 dresses, and for once in any awards event there were hardly any shockers.
However, we decided to whittle it down to six this year (and believe us it’s taken alot of time to decide) or we’d have to put nearly every attendee in.
So who made the list and why? First on the list is Brit newcomer (and Lauren’s fashion favourite) Carey Mulligan, who really stood out in a cutting edge Prada gown. However, she didn’t let the red carpet glamour swallow her style. Her dress was embellished with tiny metal keys and pairs of scissors.
And it seems the Brits are on a style roll because coming up a close second isKate Winslet.
We also have to include Sarah Jessica Parker who wore a rather unique Chanel Couture frock. Ladies be warned, the “neck strap” trend will be coming to a highstreet store near you very soon.
However it would be unfair to give a special mention to Sandra Bullock, who picked up the award for Best Actress for her role in Blind Side, and for once showed she really had style in a vintage fabric beaded long dress.
Coming up forth and fifth are Meryl Streep, who showed that just like her Devil wears Prada role, she really has a sense of style in a white cowl neck dress, and Demi more who wore an on-trend nude ruffled frock.
Do you agree with our decisions? Leave your comments below and let us know.

We’ve been wowed, dismayed, and surprised by the red carpet dresses during this year’s Oscars, and we’ve bought you coverage as it happens.
However there’s always the few (or in an event as big as this, many) that get away. So we’ll be bringing you a range of galleries with a range of the dresses that graced the red carpet, as well as a round up of trends, and of course the best and worst dressed.
First up is a round up of some of the stars and their designer frocks.

We were really excited to see what Sandra Bullock would be wearing at this year’s Oscars. After all the starlet, who has been nominated for best actress for her role in the Blind Side, always makes a statement (although not in a good way.)
However, this year she quite literally blew us away with her vintage fabric Paquin beaded frock.
We think it’s also a perfect way to ensure no-one else turns up wearing the same dress (hands up who’s had that problem before).
And it seems Ms Bullock is also a woman after own hearts, claiming she completely chilled out all day today.
“I read, ate some berries and relaxed,” she said.
We also have to applaud her on her stunning make-up, especially the pink lips, which went away from this season’s bright red but gave a nod to the upcoming spring looks.

Red Carpet
By Andrea Petrou on March 7th, 2010

The first few minutes of the 2010 Oscars have been a bit of whirlwind. Watching some of the stars parading down the red carpet in black before the initial event began, we were under the impression that this would form the trend of the night, but we were wrong. Nicole Ritchie broke up the dark trends with a silver and black frock complete with kimono sleeves, while Avatar star Zoe Saldana walked the red path in a strapless sparkling bodice and frill-adorned lilac skirt.
Vera Farmiga opted for a red frilly Marchesa frock, which she unfortunately stepped on, however the disaster of the night so far has got to be Sky presenter Angela Griffin, who we think went a bit too far with her imitation of Rihanna’s statement hairstyle.
And although she didn’t copy the singer‘s quirky style, instead she went for an on-trend nude chiffon frock with ruffles, we still think she looks like a poor mans version of the superstar. And another thing Angela, no matter how much your feet will ache the next day, wearing flip flops on the red carpet is a big no no.
Pictures to follow.

This year iconic British actress Helen Mirren has been nominated for her role in The Last Station. Avid followers of Mirren’s red carpet style will know that the actress always looks elegant in beaded and sleeved frocks made of taffeta, silk and sheer fabrics, which really give her the edge over some other stars.
For the 2007 Oscars the 64 year old, who claims she is “always a mess” unless walking the red carpet, opted for a cream and gold rouched frock by Christian Lacroix with three quarter length beaded sleeves, which she teamed up with Jimmy Choos. She carried on the tradition in 2008 where she opted for a an elegant vibrant red custom-made Georges Chakra satin gown, embellished with Swarovski crystal sleeves and again in 2009 when her slinky frock screamed sophistication, and dare we say, royalty.
So will Dame Helen continue the elegant theme tonight?
We have a strong suspicion she might, and if the rumour mill is anything to go by she may be wearing Christian Lacroix. However it may not be a new style; apparently she asked her publicist if she could pull an old Lacroix out of her closet that she wore to the Oscars a couple years ago.
We have to admit we like her thinking.

We’ve been guessing about what A-list celebrities will be wearing for tonight’s Oscars, and although we know many will be wearing ones from various designers we’re still slightly in the dark.
Thankfully Victoria has gone some way to ease our curiousness, if her claims in today’s Sunday Times are anything to go by.
Speaking about her A/W 2010 collection the singer, turned all round fashionista said: “Dick Tracy and the 1940s have inspired my [latest] collection.”
She then went on to pinpoint a nude off the shoulder frock [pictured], which she claimed was the “perfect red-carpet dress.
“I’m tempted to wear it to the Oscars myself,” she added.
So will other celebrities be thinking along the same style lines? Keep reading for our live Oscar coverage later on tonight to find out.
