Oscars 2010: Danny Glover asks stars to boycott Hugo Boss

By laurenbravo on March 7th, 2010

wenn5376526.jpgIt’s usually the trends that dictate red carpet outfit choices, but this year actor and activist Danny Glover has introduced ethics into the mix by asking attendees not to wear Hugo Boss suits to tonight’s Academy Awards.

The Lethal Weapon star has sent a letter to nominees and presenters asking them to boycott the designer on behalf of workers at the company’s plant in Cleveland, who will lose their jobs if the factory closes at the end of next month as planned.

The letter, dated February 26, asked the film industry to “take a small stand for American workers” by shunning the designer, who has disputed reports that the closure will leave almost 400 workers jobless. Glover has also asked stars to wear lapel pins on the red carpet, reading “Keep the Hugo Boss Plant Open”.

We’re sure that the stars will be keen to support a noble cause – but with less than two weeks to rethink their outfits, we’ll be interested to see if Boss makes a controversial appearance on the red carpet tonight…

Oscar fashions through the eras: 2009

By Andrea Petrou on March 7th, 2010

On Friday we bought you galleries of all all the Oscar fashions dating right back to the 1930s, and we’re sure you’ll agree they made for some pretty interesting viewing.

Even if we didn’t always agree with the styles. However, with the 2010 Oscars due to happen in a few hours (well 9 to be precise) we wanted to finish off our mini series where we left off and that’s the best dressed celebrities of the 2009 awards. Many of you will remember at least one or two of the dresses sported by some well known actresses (who can forget Sarah Jessica Parker‘s bridal inspired dress?) and we hope this gallery does its job and reminds you.

However, it wasn’t just Jessica who chose to wear bridal, Penelope Cruz and Miley Cyrus also opted for frocks, which could be mistaken for walking down the aisle with instead of down the red carpet.

And remember keep reading because we’ll be bringing you live coverage as all the red action happens tonight.

Oscar Fashions through the eras: 1960s to 1980s

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010

As the eras continued, the glitz and the glamour of the Oscars still remained. There was more sparkle, higher heels and lower cleavages.

Some actresses were also that little bit more daring, opting for never been heard of before trouser suits.

However one thing the 60s-80s bought us were amazing stars, such as Bridget Fonda, who began winning Oscar awards in 1970, and Meryl Streep, who still continues to pick up these awards.

Oscars 2010: What will Twilight star Kristen Stewart wear on the night?

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010

It’s always hard to predict what stars will be wearing to any event, let alone the Oscars. However we’re a curious bunch over here at ShinyStyle so we’ve been having a little think about what some celebrities may decide to wear on the night based on some of their styles from previous events this year. First up on our list is Twighlight star Kristen Stewart.

To be honest we were surprised that she chose to wear a white beaded Chanel dress to the Baftas, after all she’s well known for her grungy dark looks. However, previous events have seen her stick to her style. Just a day after the Baftas the star attended the Elle Style awards in a strapless boned black and white dress, which we think suited her style much more.

And earlier in February she attended the LA premier of the Yellow Handkerchief in a fitted black dress, with beading down the sides, again showing her natural style.

So what will she wear on the night of the Oscars? Judging by all her dresses we can be sure she’ll opt for short. We also think she’ll stick to something she feels comfortable in, so our prediction is a LBD by a well known designer such as Chanel or Burberry, after all she was in the front row of the designer’s LFW show.

We’re we right? Click back on Monday where we’ll be bringing you all the Oscar 2010 celebrity fashion.

Get the Look: Eva Longoria’s 2010 pre-Oscar party dress

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010
The Hollywood Reporter's Oscar Nominee Dinner - Arrivals

We told you in our last post that pink was the trend du jour for all those pre-Oscar 2010 parties and it seems we were right. However it seems that any shade of this colour goes with celebrities.

Another champion of the pink frock is Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker who attended The Hollywood Reporter‘s Nominees’ Night Prelude to Oscar, presented by Bing and MSN at the Mayor‘s Residence. The actress opted for a shift dress, which dare we say, looks very Victoria Beckham style, but this time in a dark fuscia. Unlike many stars she also kept her hair simple and plain, opting for a straight blowdry over a fancy up-do. She continued the smart/casual look with a pair of beige heels.

Again we’ve been out hunting the highstreet for a perfect match and think this shift dress from Asos is an almost perfect match. Jazz it up with a pair of black gladiator heels for that ultimate pre party look.

Get the look: Mena Suvari’s Oscar 2010 pre-party dress

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010
3rd Annual Women In Film Pre-Oscar Party - Arrivals

The Oscar pre-parties are in full swing as celebrities don their pre Oscar dresses and hit the red carpet.

Yesterday we spotted Jessica Alba looking hot in pale pink, and it seems this may be becoming the trend for these parties.

American Beauty star Mena Suvari arrived at the 3rd Annual Women In Film Pre-Oscar Party at a private residence in Bel Air last night in a satin tunic empire dress with chiffon ruffle detailing. She also took a tip out of Amy Winehouse’s beauty book opting for a small behive.

Get Mena’s look with this tunic dress complete with ruffles from Dorothy Perkins, we think for £35 its a style steal. Team up with silver sandals for the ultimate Oscar Party look.
