Mischa Barton has been admitted to hospital after police were called to her home in L.A. on Wednesday to attend to a “medical issue.”
The actress/handbag designer was placed under Section 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold (the same code that Britney Spears was held under in January last year) before being transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Barton’s rep confirmed that the star will not be attending the world premiere of her new film, Homecoming, Thursday night but refrained on commenting further. She was due to fly into New York Wednesday evening for the premiere and a photo-shoot.
We are used to seeing her donning her Sixties retro full-skirted frocks and Stepford Wife pearls for Mad Men, but the real-life January Jones is anything but. The actress is Elle‘s August ’09 cover girl as shot by Mariano Vivanco. Check out the video above for a behind-the-scenes look at her shoot – and keep your eyes peeled for an appearance by Donatella Versace! Click play on video above to watch.
Finally it was our turn for the kids of Harry Potter to grace us with their presence. Emma Watson arrived in New York this week to promote Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. She hit the red carpet at the Ziegfeld Theatre last night in a gorgeous black leather halterneck dress with contrasting white skirt by Proenza Schouler, and black strappy sandals. Earlier, she attended a taping of the Late Show with David Letterman in a gorgeous nude tired dress with black trim from Christopher Kane’s Fall ’09 collection. During the show, Letterman quizzed her about that unfortunate wardrobe malfunction at the London premiere, to which she cheekily replied: “At least I was wearing underwear.”

Screen queen Kate Winslet has landed herself another glossy cover, this time for US Harper’s Bazaar’s August ’09 issue. The Oscar-winning actress was photographed by Peter Lindbergh suspended on a tower with New York acting as the stunning backdrop. For the shoot, she dons Burberry, Michael Kors, and Yves Saint Laurent. I just love that white floaty Ralph Lauren dress on her (above right) don’t you?
It is another nod to Madonna, with a hint of Gwen Stefani in this latest cover for V magazine, starring Cameron Diaz. The actress steps out of comfort-zone for an edgy photo-shoot taken by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Reminiscent of Madge’s iconic True Blue phase, Cam experiments with short peroxide hair, fake tattoos and cone bra fashioned out of gaffer tape.
Lots of bloggers are talking about Leighton Meester’s new single, Body Control today. The Gossip Girl starlet has been working on her début album of what she calls “sexual electro-pop,” and now a track believed to be on that album has found its way onto YouTube. It’s a little too early for me to make my mind up about it, but Leighton certainly has the pipes to carve a music career for herself. Don’t believe me? Then check out this audio clip of her singing her own version of Bette Davis Eyes. Gwyneth who?
Whispers are abound that the next famous face to join the Upper East Side is Hilary Duff.
EW reports that the tween sensation has signed onto star in Gossip Girl in this season’s fourth episode. She plays Olivia Burke, a movie star who yearns for a normal college experience so enrols at NYU where Blair (Leighton Meester), Dan (Penn Badgley) are accepted. Her character ends up sharing a dorm room with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), which will no doubt lead to some sort of drama.
The episode is scheduled to air on October 5. Duff’s own TV series, Barely Legal, was passed up by producers. She also recently starred in Ghost Whisperer and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Emma Watson is on fire at the moment! Not the least of her accomplishments is the August ’09 cover of Teen Vogue. The Harry Potter starlet is having a bumper month with a new campaign for Burberry and a rumored fashion range for UNICEF. For her latest high-fashion stint, she models a variety of designs including a puffy-shouldered plum blouse and floral skirt by Dolce & Gabbana (above).

New York’s Lincoln Centre was the place to be last night as designers, models and other starlets gathered to celebrate the 2009 CFDA Awards. We’ve already brought you the list of winners – click here to get the update. So now, onto the red carpet arrivals. It was a celeb-fest with the likes of Doutzen Kroes wearing a flouncy Zac Posen frock, and Blake Lively, Coco Rocha and a preggers Heidi Klum supporting Michael Kors by wearing his clothes. Much has been made over that Harper’s Bazaar cover starring Angelina Jolie (pictured left) in the past few days. Everyone from readers to journalists to bloggers have been left unimpressed by the magazine’s decision to feature a photo agency picture of the actress on their July cover.
Indeed, even yours truly has been left rather stumped by this choice to use a Getty red carpet photo instead of the usual stylised photo-shoot image. As if that wasn’t strange enough, there isn’t even an interview with Ange inside the mag, just an essay written by Naomi Wolf about the actress. As some have put it, it’s bordering on tabloid.
The Harry Potter star has made her modelling debut for the label’s autumn/winter 2009-10 campaign alongside four very handsome young men.
“Having known and admired the lovely Emma Watson for quite some time, she was the obvious choice for this campaign,” said creative director, Christopher Bailey. “I felt [she] would be strong enough to hold the campaign as the only girl, and I loved the idea of her being surrounded by these young, cool British guys.”
Cameron Diaz has surprised many a fashion follower by landing the June ’09 issue of Vogue. Criticisms are already flying about what the actress has done lately to warrant the highly sought after cover spot on the style bible. Regardless of this fact, Cameron sat down with the magazine to discuss the trials of shooting her latest film, My Sister’s Keeper, and her father’s sudden death last year.
“I think, emotionally … it definitely took its toll. Definitely. It’s the human experience. You know, that’s what the heart does. Things are given to us, and things are taken away. And I think the heart becomes stronger, more capable,” she said.
Following dwindling sales in April and May, the pressure riding on the September ’08 issue of American Vogue has been fairly high. As previously reported, Anna Wintour chose Keira Knightley for the cover, which has been shot by Mario Testino. So far, public reaction to the cover hasn’t been favourable. Fashion fans don’t seem to be warming to the British actress and her messy hair, and not even her Balenciaga outfit is winning her much praise. This, coupled with the fact that the issue has slimmed down from 725 pages, from the same time last year, to 674 pages due to a drop in ad sales, and things don’t seem to be sitting too pretty right now for Wintour and co.
Gwyneth Paltrow is lending her name to support Saks Fifth Avenue’s 2008 Key for a Cure campaign. The actress models a T-shirt designed by Karl Lagerfeld, which features a sketch of the man himself, in advertising for the charity. The T-shirt will retail for $40 (at least $35 going to charity) to support the cancer awareness initiative, which has previously been backed by Hilary Swank, Charlize Theron, and Renee Zellweger. The T-shirts will hit the Saks website in October.
