Agyness Deyn quit modelling to “find herself”

By emilyborrett on September 12th, 2011

The famous former model Agyness Deyn has revealed her reasons for leaving the fashion industry at the peak of her career.

Agyness, who was one of the most famous faces of the modelling world five years ago with her elfin looks and boyish crop, quit modelling because she felt like her career was taking over her life and her personality.

The gamine beauty said: “I think every single person, not just models, gets to a certain age and you’re like, ‘Who the f**k am I?’ I think with modelling, even though it was me and it wasn’t contrived, it got like other people were saying, ‘OK, that’s you.’ And I was like, ‘Is that me? That isn’t all of me.’ There’s so much more to a person. It was about two years ago when I stopped – I still did little bits, but I had to get off the train to really assess my life and what I wanted. I just suddenly couldn’t see where Agyness the model ended and where I started. It was so enmeshed and I was so busy that that’s all I was doing for ages. I lost my sense of self.”

Will we ever see Agyness return to the runway? She doesn’t think so as she plans to move into the acting world but will never say never to working on the catwalks again. The model confessed: “I don’t want to be like, ‘OK, now I’m an actress and I’m never going to model again’, because that would be crazy.”

Come back to us Agy, the catwalks of London miss you!

Agyness Deyn is returning to Select Model Management from Models 1.

By Andrea Petrou on June 15th, 2011

Agyness Deyn is returning to Select Model Management from Models 1.

The British model – who shot to fame as the face of Burberry and became a Vogue cover star after signing for Select in 2002 before leaving them for Models 1 – decided to return to the agency because they are “a safe pair of hands”.

She explained: “Select were the agency who launched my career and I feel in very safe hands with them. It feels right to be here – it’s like coming home.”

Select Women’s founder and director Chrissie Castagnetti added: “We’re delighted that Agyness is back under our guidance. There are not enough British models showcased in fashion right now and whilst we’re proud of all our girls, we have always had a passion for home grown talent and Agyness embodies that. It’s great to be working with her again.”

However, while she has become one of Britain’s most successful models, Agyness – real name Laura Hollins – insists she has no interest in the industry that made her name and won’t pursue a catwalk career forever.

She said: “You know, even though I’m in fashion, I don’t, like, do fashion. Fashion isn’t me, even though I work in it. It’s just materialistic stuff. I just want to do whatever makes me happy.”

Agyness Deyn takes up boxing for marathon

By Andrea Petrou on April 13th, 2011

Agyness Deyn has taken up boxing during her training for the London Marathon.

The British supermodel – who is taking part in the charity run with designer Henry Holland on Sunday  says she has been working with a coach in the US to help prepare for challenge.

She told Britain’s The Times newspaper: “A friend suggested I would be good at boxing because of my long limbs, so I joined his gym in downtown New York. My coach has such a good name – Action Jackson.

“I didn’t think about what would happen if I got injured – you have to live your life.”

The 28-year-old beauty says she hopes to complete the 26.2-mile race by trying to forget about how long it is and is taking inspiration from the Tom Hanks movie ‘Forrest Gump’, in which he runs for days at a time.

She said: “My tactic for getting through the 26 miles is to go steady and stop thinking about how far I have to go. Like Forrest Gump, I just keep running.”

Agyness also keeps in good shape by watching what she eats but doesn’t deny herself treats.

She explained: “I try to be aware of what food I put in my body, and I eat lots of green veg and juices. That doesn’t mean I’ll deny myself a burger and chips, but it might mean I will make it myself, so I know what’s in it.”

Designer Spotlight: The best of House of Holland

By Andrea Petrou on March 17th, 2011

Autumn/Winter 2007

We’re at a point at the moment where the British fashion industry has never been so exciting. From veterans like Vivienne Westwood to whippersnappers like Christopher Kane, there is an incredible amount of talent out there right now. For the first time London is definitely giving both Paris and Milan a run for their money as fashion capitals.

There isn’t a designer out there who encompasses everything about London street style quite as well as the House of Holland does. Ever since their 2007 runway show, which saw the model stomp down the runway looking boyish and sexy in a fluorescent T-shirt that boldly stated: “FLICK YA BEAN FOR AGYNESS DEYN.”  Everyone remembers that moment, right? A dedication to Agyness, model of the moment and face of the “new rave” craze, this was a piece that summed up that year in fashion. It was a bold and graphic collection that summed up everything that London style is about: eccentric fashion with a sense of humour. We were all hooked.

Since then creative director Henry Holland has never failed to disappoint us. Always taking a witty approach to luxury designer wear, using surreal prints, camp fabrics and huge furry pom-poms, fashion is fun again. We absolutely adored his recent A/W 2011 collection, which was a range of ladylike skirt suits in fun, bold fabrics teamed up with his trademark slogan T-shirts. Finally, the fashion-savvy young girl has a designer to look to for inspiration. To see our favourite House of Holland moments, check the gallery above.

LFW Highlights: Abbey Clancey and Kelly Brook model for Giles Deacon

By Andrea Petrou on September 21st, 2010

It was all about curves and creativity for Giles Deacon’s SS2011 show.

The designer made his LFW comeback sending curvy Kelly Brook and pregnant Abbey Clancey down the runway alongside Amber Le Bon and Agyness Deyn in floral 50s inspired frocks.

Fringing (we can see this is going to be huge next season) also made an appearance on maxi dresses and skirts, while polka dot slim fitting frocks, complete with skinny belts kept the 50s theme. But that wasn’t all with the designer also giving us a range of floaty delights, playsuits and some gorgeous billowing satin and silk frocks.

We think we may have just found our favourite collection so far.

LFW: Celebs turn out for the shows: Nicola Roberts, Pixie Geldox and Agy Deyn

By Andrea Petrou on September 20th, 2010

It was a weekend of air kisses, heels and of course fashion as celebs turned up for numerous shows at London Fashion Week.

Black dresses and tights were the chosen outfits for Agy Deyn and Lily Allen who turned up to support Henry Holland’s show, while Pixie Geldof went for her trademark stripe dress and tights for the same event.

Paloma Faith also opted for a rather toned down black frock and tights (we’re seeing a trend here) for the PPQ show, while Pamela Anderson went all out in a multicoloured sheer frock for the Vivienne Westwood show.

Matthew Williamson also, as expected, attracted a few celebrities with Cat Deeley (who opted for thigh high boots and a tasselled top) and Sienna Miller (who went for black jeans and beige shoes) and Julain Macdonald was supported by the likes of Elle Macpherson – in trademark black and Rachel Stevens who showed off her baby bump in a cute leopard print frock.

See the gallery below for all the star style and keep reading for our catwalk highlights.

As we’ve already said, it’s the 50th Anniversary of punk and rock brand Dr. Martens on April 1st, and we’ve put together a gallery of on-trend DM boots to celebrate.

However, we didn’t think this was enough to pay tribute to such an iconic brand, which has shaped various states of fashion over the years including 80s punk and 90s grunge.

We’ve therefore put together a gallery of celebrities wearing these shoes with various outfits to give you some style inspiration.

Let us know who you think wears DMs best by leaving your comments in the box below.

Dr. Martens celebrates 50 year anniversary and we put together a gallery of on-trend DM boots

By Andrea Petrou on March 30th, 2010

Dr. Marten boots have always been associated with rock, workers and punk. However over the past few years they’ve been thrust into the fashion limelight with a range of celebs such as Agyness Deyn wearing these.

The 1st April 2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Dr. Martens boot, which was originally designed for workers. To celebrate this the company has asked ten bands/musicians to record their version of cult classics that represent the spirit of Dr. Martens over the past five decades.

The first three will be released on 1st April 2010. They include: Noisettes covering Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn’t've, Dam-Funk covering The Things Dreams are Made of and The Duke Spirit covering If The Kids are United.

However we wanted to create our own celebration so we’ve decided to put together a gallery of on-trend Dr. Martens boots, which are perfect for this season.

Event: Lady Gaga joins in with The MAC VIVA GLAM launch to benefit the MAC AIDS Fund

By Andrea Petrou on March 2nd, 2010

It was a case of who could look the most disheveled at last night’s MAC Viva Glam product launch to benefit the MAC AIDS Fund in London.

Lady Gaga, who fronted the campaign alongside Cyndi Lauper, as always stole the style show, appearing in a black lace leotard with sharp shoulders. She finished the look with lace stockings, which she wore over the bodysuit as well as a mamouth PVC style hat in the shape of a flower and her trademark eye mask.

However, after her appearance it seems the style took a turn for the worse. Cyndi Lauper turned up with a perm more fit for the 80s, making her look more like a poodle than a celebrity, while usually flawless Agyness Deyn looked more John Lenon than model with her blue sunglasses.

Sharon Osbourne however, hasn’t really given us any cause for comment as she seemingly left her coat on all night.

Click on the picture below to begin the gallery and tell us what you think about these celebs dress sense.

Agyness Deyn creates clothing line and online magazine

By Andrea Petrou on March 1st, 2010

Agy.jpg

It’s going to be a busy few months for model du jour Agyness Deyn.

The starlet has signed up to design for the Japanese branch of Barneys where she has helped to produce a capsule collection of 11 items. And Agy hasn’t forgotten her green morals, a percentage of all the dresses, scarves and t-shirts from this will go to Go Green Go, which plants trees in inner Mongolia.

However, it doesn’t end there. The model has also announced she’ll be setting up an online fashion mag with former NME editor Fiona Byrne, who will act as editor-in-chief.

Naag.com will feature original photo and video content of Agyness, as well as articles on fashion, culture and travel written by their journalist friends.

ShinyStyle watch: Agyness Deyn falls down twice during the Fashion for Relief show

By Andrea Petrou on February 15th, 2010

This morning we reported that Agyness Deyn took two falls during the Fashion for Relief runway show on Friday night. And we admire her courage for getting right back up there the second, and the third time, where she took her shoes off to complete the walk.

It’s not the first time, and it certainly won’t be the last that a model has fallen over on a catwalk. And ironically it’s Naomi Campbell, who fell over at a Vivienne Westwood show in 1993, that stays in our mind.

We’ve got hold of Agyness’s big fall video, which shows how the model actually fell and we think her get up and walk on attitude is a perfect one to follow. We’ll be doing the same thing next time we slide and fall over because of that pesky piece of ice.

Fashion For Haiti show brings tears, tributes and tumbles

By Andrea Petrou on February 15th, 2010
Naomi Campbell walks the runway at Naomi Campbell's Fashion For Relief Haiti NYC 2010 Fashion Show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion in New York

Designers and celebrities including Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Georgina Chapman, Estelle, Kelly Osbourne, Margherita and Missoni leant their names to The Fashion for Relief show last Friday.

Hosted by Naomi Campbell the catwalk show was designed to help the people of earthquake-ravaged Haiti. The supermodel also took to the catwalk in a short, black, sequined flapper dress with sky scraper heels.

However, it wasn’t “alright on the night” for model du jour Agyness Deyn, who took a leaf out of Naomi’s previous book and took a tumble – twice – in her Burberry sandals, before winning our hearts by strutting back, barefoot

She tweeted afterward: “1st show of fashion week! Took a tumble! Got up! Fell again. Should have stayed down the 1st time. Twice! WTF! Ouch my knees!”

There also came a very special and tearful tribute for Alexander McQueen, which included model and Daphne Guinness walking down the catwalk in a glittery, full-length bodysuit from the late designer’s spring collection. Other models including Helena Christensen, Georgina Chapman and Naomi herself followed wearing designer Alexander McQueen from head to toe in tribute.

New York Fashion Week: Anna Sui Fall 09

By Andrea Thatcher on February 19th, 2009

annasui_heartsbritmodels_agylilydaisy.jpg

Kim and the Catwalk Queen gang have been waiting eagerly for the arrival of Agyness Deyn and Daisy Lowe at New York Fashion Week and here they are! The duo, alongside Lily Donaldson, stormed the runway at the Anna Sui Fall 2009 show last night. The collection itself was a romantic, feminine affair inspired by ‘reading lots of Proust’, according to the designer. Silk bohemian fabrics and early French velvet coats held such drama that one might have been forgiven for thinking they were watching a theatrical performance. This was my fashion week buddy Melissa’s favorite show of the week, and she’s gone to all the biggies.

Click on to see a video of the show and to watch your fave models in action!
