Natalia Vodianova becomes the new face for (Bugaboo)RED to help Aids victims

By Andrea Petrou on May 12th, 2010

Natalia RED.jpg

Natalia Vodianova is no stranger to charitable events. She ran the French half marathon earlier this year to raise money for charity and also has her own initiative -the Naked Heart Foundation.

And now it seems she’s continuing the good work. The model has been announced as the new face of (Bugaboo)RED – a new Product(Red) initiative by the pram manufacturer, which aims to help raise funds and awareness for Aids victims.

She told Vogue: “HIV and Aids make children very vulnerable.

“The disease is a very smart enemy of the human race and the fact that children are born carrying this enemy makes me feel sick.”

The Bugaboo(Red) campaign has already covered the cost of providing medication to almost 18,000 pregnant women to reduce the risk of transmission of HIV from mother to child.

“These days, if you don’t take a socially responsible position, you’re out of the club.

“If you’re going to have a multi-million pound party, you should have a very good reason to do it, attach it to a charity; give back to the community.”

H&M launches festival range to raise money for HIV/AIDS awareness projects

By Andrea Petrou on April 14th, 2010

HANDM Festival.jpg

The summer festival season is one of the most exciting times of the year, and now it’s one of the most giving, too thanks to H&M.

On 20th May 2010 the retail store will launch its third Fashion Against AIDS campaign and this year it’s going for a festival feel, creating a themed collection and donating 25% of proceeds to the youth HIV/AIDS awareness projects.

The range will be sold as part of the company’s Divided brand and will include a mix of rock with bohemia and glamour with added ethnic touches. Denim hotpants or patterned leggings are matched with embellished tunic tops, while maxi-dresses are toughened up when worn with leather jackets. Gladiator shoes, chunky bracelets, wide belts and beaded necklaces complete the look, while tribal print headphones give an extra twist.

And if that wasn’t enough you can also get your hands on tents and sleeping bags.

Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design, said: “For me, festivals are unique and inspirational places as they join both music and fashion. To see your favourite bands, to see creative people gathered, all from different nations and with different looks really inspires me.

“It is very important to make people aware of the problem with AIDS and HIV and we want to contribute in the fight against the disease by donating some of the sales from this collection.”

As well as raising funds for the fight against HIV and AIDS, H&M hopes to raise awareness about safe sex among the young by donating to such an important cause.

Jordan wins our worst dressed award for her frock at the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards.

By Andrea Petrou on March 9th, 2010

Katie Price Oscars.jpg

Many people are pitching Katie Price (AKA Jordan) and Victoria Beckham against each other in the fashion stakes at the 18th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards.

After all, they’ve been well publicised enemies for many years now. However, we’re not sure who would say Ms Price looked good in her frock, let alone beat a fashionista.

Now don’t get us wrong we generally don’t have a problem with Katie Price (we’re not team Pete or team Price t-shirt wearing girls), however, we have to say that her frock has got to be the worst one of the Elton John after party night.

To be fair on the model, mum and business woman, she kept her (er) assets covered up proving she can be elegant, however, the shiny fabric and huge flowers make her look like a mermaid who got lost in a poppy field.

We think that’s 5-1 to Victoria, Jordan.

Celebrities such as Mel B, Hayden Panettiere well as Victoria Beckham all flocked to one of the most well known events of the year, and dare we say, some of those dresses were even even better than those found on the Oscar Red carpet.

We’ve put together a gallery of the best. Let us know if you agree and who you think deserves the overall “best dressed” .

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper front M.A.C’s charity lipstick

By Andrea Petrou on February 11th, 2010

Lady G and Cindy for Mac.jpg

Yesterday we reported Lady Gaga was selling off some of her stage costumes to help raise funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquake, and it seems her goodwill doesn’t stop there.

The singer and equally wacky songstress Cyndi Lauper will both front a range of new lipsticks for M.A.C. All sales of this collection will go to the M.A.C AIDS Fund, which helps those with the illness and HIV virus in Africa.

Miss G has also taken it upon herself to give women sex advice and encourage them to use contraception.

She told WWD: “When the guy that she’s seeing says, ‘Baby, it doesn’t feel good when I wear that,’ or ‘Baby, it’s just you,’ you say, ‘F–k you, I’m out of here.’”

“Buying condoms is seen as a male accessory. We were joking that we wish the lipstick had on the side, ‘Where’s my best friend, the condom? Come out with me tonight.’

More than just pretty face, hey Miss G? We wonder if she’ll incorporate her wise words into her song lyrics too.

We heart Converse’s RED RED LOVE collection

By Andrea Petrou on February 5th, 2010

Converse One.jpg

Wear your heart on your feet and step into Valentines day in creative style with Converse’s new collection. The retro footwear designer has launched RED RED LOVE, which includes a range of heart adorned trainers sporting a “I heart ………” logo.

The idea is you fill in the blank with whatever it is you love with a waterproof fabric pen.
And if you think that sounds good then you’ll be even more pleased to hear that proceeds from this creative range go to fight AIDS in Africa.

We think we may have to buy more than one of these pairs as we just can’t decide what it is we love the most (yes, we know, any excuse).

Get FLOWE(RED) this Valentines day

By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010
Cat Deeley Launches Red Charity Online Flower Service

We know we’re more fashion than flowers, but with Valentines day approaching we thought we’d make a little exception, especially as it’s for a good cause.

Cat Deeley has launched FLOWE(RED)™, a new online flower service, which gives all the profits from each bouquet sold to helping provide medication and treatment for those living with HIV in Africa.

Although many of you may be angling for a new bag or shoes, we think receiving a gorgeous bunch of flowers that will, in theory, continue to spread the love well after they’ve died is more than enough of a reason to drop floral hints to your other half.

Prices range from £20-£65.

Dita Von Teese teams up with Moschino to design an eye mask for charity.

By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010

Dita and Moschino.jpg

Another famous figure has put their designing hat on for charity and this time it’s Dita Von Teese. The burlesque dancer has teamed up with Moschino to create a luxurious eye mask with 30% of the proceeds from each one going to amfAR, a charity that funds AIDS Research.

The handy sleeping accessory is made out of silk-satin with a spotted lack overlay and pictures of eyelashes we can only dream about as well as the words ‘Dita for Moschino’ in rhinestones.

We think its a perfect way to look good while you’re sleeping, and a great way to shut out any light or disturbances. We just wish someone would think about creating some designer earplugs to match.

Buy the mask exclusively from Moschino now for £100.

ANTM: Models go green and red–charity and recycling

By Andrea Thatcher on October 25th, 2007

ANTM5.jpg
On Wednesday’s America’s Next Top Model, the girls got a surprise visit from Mr. Hottie himself: Tyson Beckford. He taught them to take anything and sell it, which the girls did, but much ogling was going on! He was a bit naughty!

The first challenge broke the girls into three teams to create and perform a PSA for Keep A Child Alive AIDS charity organization. All the girls did a great job with creativity, with Ambreal, Heather and Jenah winning products from ‘Carol’s Daughter.’ This win also included a hidden bonus. Lisa Price, founder of the beauty line Carol’s Daughter, did a random pull of the three, where Heather won a photo shoot with Mary J. Blige. She was very excited, and with great direction from the photographer, she finally faced the camera head-on for some amazing shots!
