Sexy was definitely on the menu yesterday at Milan Fashion Week as the fashion house Alberta Ferretti showed us their latest offering of panelled cocktail dresses, skirts and trench coats.

We couldn’t help noticing that, like Gucci’s show before Ferretti’s, there was a bit of a 1920s vibe going on in the drop-waisted, free-flowing dresses that we saw in virginal white, juicy coral and tropical colours and smoky greys and blacks.

Unlike the sleek, shiny finish on the garments at the Gucci show, however, the new Alberta Ferretti had a more summery laid-bck vibe to it, with pajama-style lounge trousers and tropical prints in the place of more austere tailored styles.

There’s a definite new hair and make-up trend that we saw on the show that we think could be a big look for next summer – damp, mussy hair and bright, neutral makeup tones for a look that made each model look like she’d just come straight out of a beach somewhere gorgeous in Rio, then headed off to a party in her new Alberta Ferretti dress.

All in all, it’s a chic, thoughtful collection with an assortment of crochet and tropical prints that make us want to book a flight to the Bahamas right now. Very simple and understated European glamour – we love.

Emma Watson has an “adventurous” side to her style

By Andrea Petrou on March 14th, 2011

Emma Watson has an “adventurous” side to her style.

The ‘Harry Potter’ actress has teamed up with designer Alberta Ferretti for new eco-clothing line All Pure Threads and believes the collection reflects her own personal style.

She said: “My style’s definitely evolved. I usually go for classic, simple things, but then I have this adventurous side.

“I’m always thinking and experimenting, and I make conscious decisions to try and support new talent and ethical fashion.”

Emma loves designing her own collection because she enjoys being in control, and also sees it as another outlet for her creativity.

She told Britain’s InStyle magazine: “I love having control. My job as an actress is to bring to life another person’s vision, but with clothes, I can express my own creativity.

“And I wanted to be able to buy fashion knowing it’s not harming the person who made it or the environment.

“I’ve always been involved in art and I love fashion – it’s just something I really enjoy.”

Emma Watson’s new fashion range for Alberta Ferretti inspired by Jane Birkin.

By Andrea Petrou on March 7th, 2011

Emma Watson’s new fashion range for Alberta Ferretti was inspired by Jane Birkin.

The ‘Harry Potter’ actress – who recently released her third and final set of designs for ethical clothing brand People Tree – has worked with the designer on a “green” capsule collection and Alberta revealed 64-year-old actress-and-singer Jane was influential when Emma was working on the eco-friendly designs.

She said: “Emma had a Jane-Birkin-in-the-70s image in mind.”

Alberta also revealed she has admired Emma for some time and is impressed with her dedication to green issues.

She told WWD: “I’m grateful Emma accepted this creative partnership that can contribute to fashion and to the health of the planet.

“She’s an actress I’ve followed since her early days. I like her freshness, her spontaneity and simplicity. She is intelligent, with a strong personality, a young, modern girl of today but aware of social issues at the same time and very rigorous. This is a moment that demands strong attention to these issues and we can help in communicating them.”

Emma – who has worked on five pieces including two dresses, a shirt, a long skirt and a pair of denim shorts for her line called Pure Threads – spoke about her devotion to the ethical clothing cause and said she is delighted that Alberta has gotten involved.

She said: “I’m pleased that a luxury brand such as Alberta Ferretti has decided to create ecological clothes. I believe this is a big step forward for all of the international fashion industry, but also an important step for an increased sensitivity to the problem of ecology.

Milan Fashion Week highlights: Alberta Ferretti

By Andrea Petrou on September 27th, 2010

Sheer fabrics and muted tones formed the backbone of Alberta Ferretti’s SS2011 show at Milan Fashion Week.

Floral floaty dresses drifted across the catwalk, giving a nod to the romantic and poetry trend, while last Spring’s theme of peekaboo dressing came out in some of the designs with pretty underwear sets showing through the finest of silk and chiffon column gowns.

Short pleated skirts were well paired with bustier tops in fragile lace and  and the dreamy colours occasionally interspersed with hints of orange and bright greens.

In fact the collection was so beautiful and serene it’s made us feel slightly sleepy.

Looks like the Marc Jacobs ad campaign star will be one role that’s not recurring for Victoria Beckham (unlike her Ugly Betty gig, which she will reprise).

Marc has chosen to fuel the comeback of the 90s supermodel by hiring Stella Tennant and Kirsten Owen for his fall 2008 advertising.

While he may not be snagging any stellar starring roles of late, Joshua Jackson certainly pulled it out as Diane Kruger’s leading man at last night’s Costume Institute Gala. If only Dawson could see him now.

Kruger was wearing a short silver dress with neck detailing by Alberta Ferretti. Likewise, Jennifer Lopez oozed early Hollywood glamour in the one-shouldered blue Alberta Ferretti gown, with bling encrusted neckline and cuff.

By Andrea Thatcher on October 10th, 2007

First it was Marc Jacobs’ “backward heel” shoes that appeared on his catwalk during New York’s Fashion Week, then it was Alberta Ferretti’s heel-wedges wobbling down the catwalk in Milan. In a Us Weekly poll, 89% of readers said they wouldn’t wear the Jacobs heel. But then again, didn’t people once say that bikinis would never catch on?
