We’re buzzing about the Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2013 collection.
And we mean that quite literally with Sarah Burton introducing a bee theme into next season’s RTW range.
The theme, which was also referenced by Karl Lagerfeld for the upcoming Chanel collection, was however more prevalent here with amber and gold hues giving a huge nod to the beehive.
Models marched down the catwalk in bustiers and cropped trousers all showing off a hive pattern, while jackets and intricately designed tops clinched at the waist channelled a Queen Bee status.
Beekeeper hats made out of netting continued the theme, while hooped, structured style Can-Can 80s dresses with reptile-like fabrics gave the humble bee more of a subtle nod.
With this collection its clear Burton was making her stand as the Queen Bee of PFW.

One of the most talked about brands in the past years – first due to the tragic death of its founder, second for its starring role in the royal wedding of the decade – McQ Alexander McQueen has opened its first flagship store on London’s Dover Street.
An idea conceived by designer Sarah Burton and brought to life by David Collins Studio, the new store is situated over three floors covering 3,000 square feet within a Georgian townhouse, and draws inspiration from surrealism and boudoir contrasted with Brutalism.

“We wanted to create a story and a home for McQ and the flagship on Dover Street is an extension of this world. The store offers special catwalk pieces alongside ready-to-wear collections in a rich and immersive McQ environment.” said Sarah Burton, Creative Director.
David Collins added: “We looked at fetish. We wanted the home of McQ to be a parallel view of Alexander McQueen, where eroticism is part of the fabric and design that slowly unfolds throughout the store.”
There are also references to the handwriting of McQ throughout, from rich velvet to precious hand-crafted finishing as well as tough, utilitarian fixtures inspired by modernism and street culture.
Interactive features have also been incorporated in the design – Burberry revealed a high-tech store only last week. On the ground floor visitors are greeted by an interactive digital table and billboard featuring brand content and imagery. Gesture-controlled mirrors on the first and lower ground floors allow customers to browse the collection and photograph themselves in looks which they can then share with friends via social media channels or email.
Furnishing showcases McQueen’s take on supernature and carved anatomical details, contrasting with clean, hard metal lines. Shuttered concrete is juxtaposed with sumptuous flocked velvet and ivory shag pile carpeting, and fibreglass resin hanging rails reflect the McQueen obsession with the body.

Kate Middleton has had a week of being in the fashion spotlight.
The Duchess of Cambridge went on a range of Royal visits including meeting the cast of the theatre version of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. For this event she opted for a simple royal blue dress and coat.
However, the style changed over the weekend when Kate opted for a casual, albeit budget busting, look of £300 Le Chameau wellies, Zara jeans and jumper, a Burberry shirt and waterproof waistcoat for a countryside visit.
She later made up on her spend wearing a cream sculptured, double breasted coat by Alexander McQueen, which she was first spotted in at last year’s Trooping the Colour procession.
See her five days of fashion in the gallery below.

Wax figures of Prince William and Kate Middleton have been unveiled at London’s Madame Tussauds and the museum in New York City.
The figures, which mark the first anniversary of the royal couple, have been styled and modelled on the pair at two separate events.
In London Kate wears the famous blue Issa dress that she wore when the couple’s engagement was announced.
“We created the engagement scene, that press call when they both looked a little bit nervous but so happy,” Louis Wiltshire, the sculptor of Kate’s head, told the Telegraph.
Over in New York the Duchess is dressed in the pale lilac Alexander McQueen gown that she wore to the BAFTA Brits to Watch event.
And if that wasn’t enough, fashion fans can also get a look at Kate’s War Horse Alice Temperley black dress in Amsterdam where another replica is displayed.
See below for all the pics.

Sarah Burton has become a household name since she designed Kate Middleton’s wedding frock, but with her AW 2012 collection for Alexander McQueen she showed she was a fashion force to be reckoned with.
Depicting the outlandish McQueen style, models clad in big fur creations, including puff short dresses and evening gowns, marched down the catwalk, while ruffles and pleats in skirts gave a nod to the the Elizabethan dinner party.
Mixing in today’s futuristic trend, these styles were teamed up with wide shield glasses, big structured belts and super high platform boots.
Further into the collection Burton added a more intricate feel with lace fabrics and feathers taking the main stage.
Tulle was also added to evening wear, although fur still made an appearance on cuffs and necklines.
Now to find a suitable event to show one of these off.

Sarah Burton is “glad” she agreed to take over as Alexander McQueen’s creative director.
The designer – who was given the coveted role following the tragic suicide of the label’s founder Alexander McQueen in February 2010 – says she was initially unsure about doing the job, but looking back, she is pleased she did.
She said: “He was such a genius; inspiring and funny and an incredible man. I could never pretend to be him but when I look back now, I’m glad that I took the job – because it kept the studio alive in his spirit, and it kept the team together. Because what did he work so hard for all those years if it was all just going to disappear?”
Sarah – who created Duchess Catherine’s wedding dress when she married Prince William in April – recently said she regards the Alexander McQueen team to be “like a family” feels “privileged” to be part of the brand.
She said: “Every day, I love what I do and I think it’s a gift and privilege to love your job. The McQueen team is like family.
“We are so passionate about what we do and it’s so important that we have established a couture-standard atelier in Britain.”

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen is up for the "Designer of the Year" award
Sarah Burton regards the Alexander McQueen team to be “like a family”.
The designer – who was named as the label’s creative director last year following the tragic suicide death of its founder Alexander McQueen – feels “privileged” to be part of the brand, and carry on the creator’s passion in her day-to-day work.
She said: “Every day, I love what I do and I think it’s a gift and privilege to love your job. The McQueen team is like family.
“We are so passionate about what we do and it’s so important that we have established a couture-standard atelier in Britain.”
Sarah – who created Duchess Catherine’s wedding dress when she married Prince William in April – feels “very lucky” to have worked with Alexander for 13 years, and she was delighted more than half a million people attended the ‘Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’ exhibition in New York earlier this year to celebrate his work.
She added to The Observer newspaper: “He was a visionary, an incredible man and I feel very lucky to be able to carry on his name – people have been incredibly supportive.
“The huge audience at the Metropolitan exhibition really did show how many people his work had touched, and from all walks of life.”
Last month, the 37-year-old designer – who also created the figure-hugging white bridesmaid dress Catherine’s sister Pippa Middleton wore for her sibling’s nuptials – capped off her 2011 in style when she was named top designer at Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year awards.
She explained: “It’s been an amazing year.”

McQ will show for the first time at London Fashion Week in February 2012.
The Alexander McQueen diffusion line’s catwalk show of their autumn/winter 2012-13 collection will serve as a preview for the label’s debut store opening later in the year.
McQ are to open a store carrying womenswear, menswear and accessories in a Georgian townhouse in London’s exclusive Mayfair district.
Yesterday, it was announced that Stella McCartney will also show for the first time at London Fashion Week.
The British designer will showcase a “one off special fashion presentation” on February 18 ahead of an assault on the British capital which will see her launch a ‘World of Stella’ exhibition of Selfridges, a new fragrance launch, and the opening of a second store.
However, she will then present her new collection in Paris, France as she has done for the past decade.
Alexander McQueen – who was known as Lee to friends – committed suicide in February 2010 but his successor Sarah Burton recently revealed the company still runs as if he were alive.
She explained: “Lee used to always say that you have to know all the rules to be able to break them.
“We have an open studio, so a big room, and it’s very visual. On the wall, there are just hundreds of images from all different kinds of periods and fabrics. Lee taught me to do things in a three-dimensional way.”

London’s Victoria and Albert museum is to host an exhibition of some of fashion’s most-famous dresses next year.
Ballgowns: British Glamour since 1950 will see dresses worn by the likes of late Diana, Princess of Wales and actresses Elizabeth Hurley and Sandra Bullock take center stage. With designs dating back to the early fifties, these famous frocks will have been seen on celebrities as they walked the red carpet at film premieres as well as the British Fashion Awards and the Golden Globes.
The exhibition will run from 19 May 2012 to 6 January 2013, and will showcase designs by Dame Vivienne Westwood, the late Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Norman Hartnell. The latter has created pieces for both Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother and the McQueen label was, as we all know, behind the stunning wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton as she joined the royal family in April.
Other dresses in the exhibition include designs worn by Bianca Jagger and Sandra Bullock.

Alexander McQueen got his fashion inspiration from TV show Friends.
The tragic designer – who committed suicide in February 2010 – relied on a host of sources to get ideas for his eponymous fashion line and the now defunct comedy show was just one, according to his successor Sarah Burton.
She said: “I remember him saying to me, ‘I watched ‘Friends’ last night, did you see the shirt that Joey was wearing?’
“But then, he would get a [Jan] van Eyckbook out, so it was this kind of mad mix. There’s no snobbery to it. He had this way of making you look at everything for inspiration so you didn’t just go, ‘Ok, we’re doing Seventies.’”
Although Alexander – known as Lee to his friends – is no longer with them, Sarah revealed the company still runs as if he were alive.
She explained to website lanecrawford.com: “Lee used to always say that you have to know all the rules to be able to break them.
“We have an open studio, so a big room, and it’s very visual. On the wall, there are just hundreds of images from all different kinds of periods and fabrics. Lee taught me to do things in a three-dimensional way.”

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen is up for the "Designer of the Year" award
This year’s ultimate who’s who of fashion begins as we’ve just discovered who the nominees are for 2011′s British Fashion Awards. Get ready, girls and boys..
The coveted “Designer of the Year” award has three potential nominees: Sarah Burton, who has taken over the helm at Alexander McQueen’s since her predeccessor’s death, Christopher Kane whose collections featured liquid-looking plastic and crochet dresses and Erdem, whose dresses have a delicate fairy-like beauty.
“Designer Brand of The Year” has four designers vying for the award. Burberry, one of London’s favourite fashion houses, is nominated, as is our very own Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham, whose latest collections have proved that the ex Spice Girl is more than just another famous name tacked onto a fashion project. They will all be going up against the right honorable Tom Ford, who has recently returned to designing womenswear.
“Model of the Year” is between Georgia Jagger, Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy. Our money is on Jagger to win – our very own little Brigitte Bardot.
Nominated for the the “Accessory Designer” award is Emma Hill for Mulberry, along with Katie Hillier and shoe designer Charlotte Olympia. We adore all three, but how could Mulberry not bag the award? We’ll have to wait and see to find out if we’re right.
This has been such an exciting season for fashion, and we absolutely cannot wait to see who’s going to snatch the most prestigious awards. The British fashion industry is magical, and we can’t wait to see so many of our favourite names honoured with the awards.
To read the full list of nominations, see
here.

What do you do when you have hundreds of thousands of pounds in the bank? Well if you’re the late Alexander McQueen you leave £50,000 of your £16m fortune to your pet dogs.
The designer, whose financial details have just been released, will however be making some more legacies. He’s also left £100,000 each to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London and the Blue Cross Sick Animal Centre.
He also also left a further £100,000 to the Terrence Higgins Trust, a HIV charity that promotes safe sex practices and sexual health.
And it wasn’t just charities who benefitted with the designer giving his three sisters and two brothers around £250,000 each. His godson, nieces, nephews and two housekeepers – for their ‘long and faithful service’ – all received £50,000 per person.
However, the bulk of his fortune was left to his own charity, Sarabande, which he insisted should use the money to fund bursaries or grants for students at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design in London, where he studied fashion.
